Low profile is attractive. Easy to set up and use. Light weight lets me locate conveniently (old ones were like wrestling with an elephant.) Reliable. Excellent picture and sound. No buffering.

Good Blu-ray player. I like how it upscales my existing DVD's. I also like the multiple upscaling options to improve the playback quality. It is easy to use and can also be used for screen mirroring with smartphones and tablets. Getting it on sale was a big bonus.

It's no secret that movies (and other content) on disc seem destined to go the way of VHS tapes -- streaming rules. Having said that, there is a case to be made for the Sony S6700, because it plays DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, and has the ability to stream content (in HD and digital surround) from virtually all of the most popular sites. We use it as one of two source components for our surround sound home theater, even though we have a 4K UHD TV which also has streaming apps built in. The differences are not subtle -- the Sony S6700s audio and video processors are superior to the ones built into the SmarTV. We run the S6700s HDMI output into a Marantz AV processor and then use the Marantz's HDMI out to the TV -- this combination proves stunning video and audio. Then, without changing any inputs, we can watch a Blu-ray or listen to a CD (you've heard of them, right?) through our 5.1 surround sound system or 2.1 for stereo. The Sony is a WiFi unit and setting it up couldn't be easier, takes about 5-minutes. Also for those who are videophiles, there are advanced settings to fine-tune the settings for an even better video (and audio) experience. Another thing: This is a very inexpensive system, but it is currently the top-of-the-line standard Sony offering in the HD lineup. And, that is the only negative. This unit does offer "fake" 4K (it upconverts HD to simulated 4K, that is), but it does not -- technically -- output a 4K signal that your new UHD (4K) TV will recognize as UHD. This means, no true 4K, no HDR -- just outstanding 2K HD in 1080P. But this S6700 is so inexpensive you must consider it for what it is, an Ultra-high value streaming device that just so happens to have the ability to double as a "universal" (well, almost) disc player, too. If you want better, you'll need to look at the Sony UHD player which currently commands a price that is more than double the cost of the S6700. I'd wager most people don't or won't buy 4K discs; the S6700 works perhaps better than any other non-4K player at a bargain price. And, currently, the availability of content in 4K is still but a fraction of what can be had in 2K. Unless you're looking to spend a lot more money or are in the elite group of 4K disc purchasers, this Sony unit will impress.

I bought this to replace my much older Pioneer DVD player. I wasn’t sure prior to buying but I have a 4K TV with no 4K content. It plays amazing, was easy to setup and the streaming applications play great.

This replaced an LG player which VERY briefly (one whole day) replaced our previous Sony unit, which was very similar to this new one. The new one has 4K, which we don't need. Pluses: This Sony has every app we need already installed (Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, Amazon, Hulu), plus many many more, and has the capacity to install more apps directly through the on-screen setup menu. The LG did NOT have all those apps (only Netflix and YouTube) and could NOT have ANY new apps installed. Never. By design. They meant it to work (or NOT work) that way. Even the BestBuy rep who sold it to me was amazed. Just bad design, and no mention of that limitation on the package. Minuses: This new Sony occasionally fails to boot up, occasionally fails to connect to the network (although it's hardwired to the modem), occasionally fails to open or eject. Pulling the power plug and plugging it back in fixes these glitches, so far. But those were the problems with the old Sony too, though it lasted about five years before giving up completely. So this is a well-equipped unit, but don't expect it to last forever.

Sony! I have been somewhat of a Sony snob since I was a kid- these still prove themselves as quality devices. Granted, their audio components are weak for the most part, their video is great in my opinion. This is no the typical off brand chink-O stuff, but there are fewer choices on 'older' tech like this. But it will still stream very well.. good all around unit!

We bought this Blu-ray to update our old DVD player. It was easy to purchase, easy to pick up and easy to install. It's so much smaller and pretty easy to use. We have not had any problems with it. Good product at a good price.

This is really a great product. It upscales and manages all the functions without any input from me. The case in compact and the remote functions work from any Sony product. It was super cheap and does EXACTLY what it was designed for. Excellent!

Good High Definition DVD Player

There are a lot of DVD players with better features, and they cost a lot more too. The important thing is to match the DVD player's benefits to your TV, and not pay for stuff that sounds good, but you don't use or care about. For example, I have a 4K TV, but not a HDR TV so those features wouldn't be useful. As a result, I didn't need a DVD player that costs over $100. This DVD player is small, starts up fast, has an easy to understand remote, and upconverts older DVDs so that they still look good on my newer TV. It comes with some streaming apps and stuff, though why anyone would use this instead of a Fire Stick or Roku, or whatever is beyond me.
Basically, if you are like me, and you buy good (but not the best) electronics that you just want to work and give you a good picture, then buy this DVD player, hook it up with the HDMI cable and you are in business. If you want to tweak your black levels, this probably isn't a good enough DVD player for you.

Replaced a Samsung 3D blu-ray player with the Sony BDP-S6700 and was very satisfied with the quality of the picture and the ease to set up. It also can play both Netflix and Amazon Prime which I subscribe to so it makes it convenient for my entertainment

This player actually does upgrade Blu Rat discs to 4k auality. Easty to operate and a great picture make this player a good buy.for those who like me don't want to replace their Blu Ray collection and don't want to spend a ton on a 4k player.

our first one crapped out (it did not have the internet capabilities) the blue ray quit working. around Christmas we got another one with internet/wifi abilities and the blue ray on this one is getting glitchy, freezing, and no longer finding certain mobile hotspots. I have kept software up to date and it hasn’t dropped or anything. We will definitely not be purchasing another. It was also expensive for a poor quality product.
The current model we have BDP-s6700. We may not even buy another Sony. Our Samsung player lasted yeaaaars with streaming abilities and little kids watching dvds/blue ray all the time.

This DVD player works very well. Older DVD's look even better on it! The only drawbacks are that there are no controls on the box, so keep track of that remote! And there is not countdown display on the box. If you stop a movie in the middle and then watch a different movie, you need to keep track of there you are to find your place again.

The Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player earns points for its 4K upscaling and Wi-Fi capabilities, but it falters in user-friendliness. The user interface lacks the expected ease of use, making navigation through apps and settings a bit cumbersome. For those who appreciate a seamless and intuitive interface, this could be a drawback, as it impacts the overall convenience of the Blu-ray player. Consider this factor if a straightforward and user-friendly experience is a priority for you. In addition to its performance quirks, the Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray player sits in a somewhat steep price range. While it offers 4K upscaling and Wi-Fi features, the overall package may not fully justify the higher cost compared to other options in the market. If budget is a significant consideration, you might want to explore alternatives that provide similar functionalities without the premium price tag.

Has Us Watching DVD's Again!

Needed a dvd player for a gift dvd given to my wife. Though we were still sitting on 3 or so dozen dvd's from the '90's-early 2000's, we honestly, haven't watched one in years. Who has? But, we now had this gift disc and she wanted to watch it. So, checked out what was happening at my local Best Buy and settled on this Sony Blu-ray player - open box - however it was the small scale and unobtrusive nature of the player that mostly recommended it.
Took it home, hooked it up, fired it up and after a very brief set-up, had the player up and running. Though the technology still seems a bit dated, and the film quality can be near-horrendous, it was interesting to dig through several old discs (none are Blu-ray, btw) and be able to watch some movies, shorts, music video collections, we haven't seen in some time. I guess that would be true with any player, however, the simplicity and ease of using this player is a pleasure. There is a small question of build quality - namely, the disc tray was a little reluctant to open a time or two at first but has not been a problem since.
But, really, haven't used and explored the unit enough to really put it through anything close to a workout. However, glad we bought it and, once I knock a small hole in the back of the wood-and-glass-front bookcase holding, among other things, all our dvd's, the player should fit easily tucked away all nice a clean like. That alone is worth it.
