After reviewing other 3D players I purchased this for abilities and that my Sony sound system has worked like new for 6 yrs, so quality in parts is a must. Price was great and the picture is awesome, esp. in 3D. I have not tried the 2d-3d conversion yet. The main menu and set up is very easy, let the updates take before anything else. It also streams online content very well. Worth the price.

This is an excellent DVD player. It is easy to set up and use. It offers a large number of apps. It is a compact size. I currently do not have a 3D television, so I cannot comment on 3D performance. However, I am pleased with all other aspects of this player.

The Sony BDPS6500 is absolutely the most pristine Blu-Ray player on the market today. It not only acts as a media player (virtually all formats), it easily sits in as a suitable replacement for any media streaming device (i.e. Roku, Chromecast, etc.). In addition to the standout features like 4k, 3D and WiFi, the most notable upgrade on this unit is that it seamlessly connects to your PlayStation Now account. The BDPS6500 isn't just a Blu-Ray player, it's an all-in-one Masterpiece!!!

I wanted to upgrade my Blue ray player and chose the 6500. It was in my price range and 4K upscaling. Set up was easy, the picture is great and I like the Apps. I have all Sony components and Smart TV. I use the Netflix app on the player because it broadcasts in 5.1 surround and the TV doesn't. I have been a Sony customer for years and have never been let down.

This was a great choice since I updated my home theater. It will handle the DVD's that contain high amounts of data for special effects. It was easy to set up and recognized my WiFi without a problem. Haven't had a chance to fully check it out. It offers me Netflix plus many other choices. Have looked at some of my old DVD's and the picture seems much better.

I purchased this particular DVD player mainly for travel because of its size it is the perfect player. The apps that are available are numerous and fill my needs perfectly. Very easy set up and the instant power on is fantastic so no more waiting for the player to boot up.

Very small, compact unit that does a great job with the 4K upscaling. Even though I don't have a 4K TV, I noticed the picture was clearer and sharper than my last one. Great smart aps as well! Con: remote is small and a little difficult to use due to its layout

Our blu ray player died and we replaced with this one on the recommendation of the salesman @ Best Buy. He was right, the picture is excellent and such an easy set up. Streaming is excellent. no buffering in the middle of a movie from Netflix!

It has the standard audio decoders, is very easy, has quite a number of built in apps, built in networking, 4k + upscaling, etc. One of the best features is that its smart enough to switch your TV to the right input (assuming a Sony TV anyway). Small perk, but one less step to watch a movie. Exactly what we were after

I've used the streaming 4K player now for about a month and have really liked seeing my blu-ray collection upscaled to 4K on my new 4k television. THe difference in image quality is incredible! The single flaw that I see is that the built-in youtube and netflix apps won't access the 4K streams from their associated providers which makes this less than ideal of you are looking for a way to access those 4k streams. I ended up purchasing a Fire TV which unfortunately has the same frustrating limitation for Netflix and YouTube at the moment but is able to access the Amazon 4K streaming media. All in all, for about eighty five bucks, this was an extremely good purchase. Wifi is built-in to the unit. There is no HDMI cable included however.

    A Solid Player

I was looking for a reasonably priced DVD/Blue Ray player. After doing some research on multiple sites, I settled on this player. I like the fact this player is small, unlike some of the bulky players out there. What I don't necessarily care for, is the fact there no buttons on the actual player itself. You can only open operate the player via remote. The reason that was concern for me is what if there's an issue with the remote. What if you lose it? What if the remote malfunctions? If it does, you're basically SOL. In regards to how the player plays DVDs...I can't say I have any issues. However, when I logged into my Amazon account and attempted to watch a movie, the quality was extremely poor. Now, I don't know if that's solely the fault of the DVD, but I gave up trying to watch movies from Amazon on my TV because of the quality. I know I'll eventually upgrade this player. For now, it serves its main purpose.

I'd been using the same Samsung Blu-Ray player for 7 years until it finally quit updating. I'd been satisfied with it for years but it eventually quit being able to play certain DVD's - specifically new release/blockbuster-type movies. I'd been on several forums saying there were copyright issues and if you didn't receive your automatic update via wifi you couldn't watch them. It became a real inconvenience and then trying to troubleshoot with Samsung via phone, never getting anywhere with them or receiving the update dvd disc they always said they sent me made me want to tear my hair out. The final issue was when Netflix quit working. My wifi is the strongest I can purchase through Comcast and I'd never had an issue with connection speed. Since I watch Netflix primarily on my tv, which runs through the Blu-Ray player I couldn't access that either. It just kept freezing when it loaded and on the rare occasion I was able to get to the screen after I selected a feature to watch, it wouldn't download the program to watch. After exhausting all my options and troubleshooting with Netflix, Comcast and Samsung yet again with nothing being resolved, I had a lightbulb moment to just get a new DVD player. Of course then it's finding the right one on the small budget I have. It's frustrating when I'd look up product reviews and 80% were positive but then 20% had terrible experiences with it. There really was no "perfect" product so I had to take a risk here. Luckily the first player I ordered was out of stock at the last minute after the order had already been purchased because I then came across this one I'm reviewing (sorry about the long-winded intro, by the way). When it arrived I was so surprised at the size of it - smaller then my cable box! And so easy to plug in since it's all wireless. I guess I was living in the Middle Age with that old Samsung player which was bigger than my VCR and had about a dozen cords (mostly speaker) coming from it. Setting it up was a piece of cake and I was blown away by all the free apps available that my old player didn't have- or quit working. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Snag Films to name a few. Plus it connects right to your Netflix so there's no waiting for the long download speed. I feel like I time traveled to the future after using my old player! Anyway, for only $99.99 and being a Sony brand I'm beyond satisfied. Maybe I just needed to update my player after 7 years but it ended up being a good thing because I'm in TV/Movie heaven now.

I have last year's model S6200 and it was great. I bought this because Bestbuy had a introductory deal on this. There is not much gain if you have S6200, but Sony is already the best in its class. You buy this for SACD/ FLAC.. and Dual processor over S5500. pros: 1. much smaller form factor than s6200 2. detachable power cord 3. surface does not scratch easily like s6200 4. 3D, SACD and Dual Processor ,24p video stream 5. Easier to find apps with new interface 6. wifi seems a little better 7. Load time seems faster with quick load cons 1. have not found a way to play media files on home network 2. sluggish app and sometimes will fail, this happens on both versions 3. plastic materials and does not look fancy like s6200 I having tested the USB function, I expect it to be the same if not better than s6200.

Granted I have only owned one older Sony blu-ray player, this one is far more efficiently built. It is much smaller (remote too), the power cord is removable, and the menus are much more user friendly. You can customize the home menu, which you couldn't do on the previous model I had. The older model I had was set up similar to the Playstation home menu, but the new one is entirely unique. One thing I very much enjoy about it is that the quick-start up is wicked fast. While the previous model had this, it was not nearly as quick at being able to go from turned off to streaming via one of the apps. The previous model I had was not 3D, but I got this because I plan on getting a 4K TV someday and it has an upscaling feature (I'm not ready to buy into the new 4K players they are said to be releasing soon).

This was a gift purchased as an upgrade for my parents' home and it proved to be one. It was both an improvement in quality and sound and in ease of use with regards to the included apps. There was a bit of setup at the beginning, but it was all pretty intuitive. I like the included apps, and the menu which allows for their setup, but I do wish you could remove the ones you don't intend to use to have a less cluttered menu and less to scroll through to get to what you're looking for. The apps load fast, and to be honest they're not expecting the same blazing instant gratification load times that my generation is accustomed to. In that way, it works well for them, although it is a smaller remote than they're used to. Again, a very reliable machine but for their next upgrade I'll probably look for a larger remote and easier interface.

While my existing DVD was still operational, it made little sense not to have a full function, 3D Blu-ray DVD player to go with my new Sony 4k set. I got rid of cable recently and now primarily stream Netflix and YouTube videos along with DVD viewing. The player itself isn't all that pretty... it's a basic black box, but connection was very simple and hooking up the streaming was a snap. The picture is strong and plays without a hitch with my Sony 4k TV. The remote is nice but is missing a blacklight as I like the room dark and having this feature would have been helpful. After two weeks, I feel I've made a good purchase.
