Compatible with select 2022 Sony TVs, BRAVIA CAM upgrades your TV experience with features like Video Chat, Gesture Control, and Proximity Alert. Also, with Ambient Optimization Pro, the BRAVIA CAM recognizes where you’re sitting in the room and automatically optimizes picture and sound according to the room’s environment.

Interesting, But Very Optional Accessory
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just recently purchased a Sony 85XR90 and thought the added camera could be a better way to dynamically adjust the screen based on my environment than what is built into the TV. I wasn't totally wrong, but I am not sure it added the value the asking price would indicate. I realize that Sony wants the Bravia Cam to be more than that and it is, but all of the other use cases aren't really for me. I then tried a call over Zoom and it worked surprisingly well, but it is a strange thing to call someone on your TV and talk to them. I really don't ever see myself using it again for that purpose as no one I know uses Zoom and I am not really sure if it is compatible with any other client. The proximity alert is neat and I could see if you had younger kids this could be useful. That said, all of my kids are older and my living room is laid out in a fashion that would make sitting 'too' close a trick. Again, it works and has some potential for families of younger kids. Sony does offer gesture control for basic volume and channel changes, but for the life of me I could not get it to work consistently. Maybe a fun 'feature', but I wouldn't count on it. The device is compact and matches the trim of the current line of Sony Bravia TVs it is designed for so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb atop your set. It also has a lens cover to help mitigate privacy concerns when not in use. That was one of my biggest concerns and Sony obviously understood that could be the case for many. Overall, it does what it sets out to do, but unless you really need to monitor your kids viewing distance or do large video group calls this will have pretty limited utility. The additional calibration it performed was not necessarily negligible, but also didn't really improve things either in my opinion. The Sony Bravia Cam is for someone, but I don't think I am the person they are targeting.

automatic brightness adjustment
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently added the Sony BRAVIA CAM to my home entertainment setup, and it has truly elevated my viewing experience. This sleek, black camera offers a plethora of features that enhance both video and audio quality, making it a must-have accessory for anyone with a compatible Sony TV. The video chat functionality is fantastic. Connecting with friends and family on the big screen adds a whole new level of fun to our conversations. The video quality is superb, and the built-in microphone picks up voices clearly, even in a noisy room. One of the standout features is Ambient Optimization Pro. The BRAVIA CAM intelligently detects where you are in the room and adjusts the TV’s sound and picture settings accordingly. This means whether I'm lounging on the couch or sitting at the dining table, I always get the best picture and sound quality. This feature works seamlessly with a wide range of Sony TVs from 2022, 2023, and select 2024 models. The automatic brightness adjustment is another game-changer. The BRAVIA CAM continuously detects my distance from the TV and tweaks the brightness to ensure optimal viewing. It also adjusts the sound balance based on my position, delivering an immersive audio experience no matter where I am in the room. Connecting the BRAVIA CAM is a breeze via USB, and I appreciate the built-in camera cover for added privacy. The Proximity Alert is a thoughtful feature for parents, ensuring children maintain a safe distance from the screen. Overall, the Sony BRAVIA CAM has exceeded my expectations. It’s easy to use, packed with smart features, and significantly enhances the viewing experience. Highly recommended for any Sony TV owner looking to upgrade their setup!

Really want to like it, it has potential!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really want to like this Sony Bravia camera for Sony TVs 2022 and newer, but it's just too early in its development and I feel like it's in a prototype stage still where we're the alpha testers. I tested this on my Sony X80K to ensure no issues with compatibility, but compatibility isn't even the issue. The key word I'd like to hone in on is clunkiness. It's clunky. Your hand/arm isn't strong enough of a "thing" to replace a wand or a remote for interaction just quite yet. If anyhing the Xbox Kinect was pretty close with this technology before they abandoned it. With that being said, the more base features do not disappoint. It's essentially an expensive (subject to opinion) webcam for your TV and is great to set up for your grandparents for example. It comes with everything you need and reminds me of the webcam for my PS5. It's as simple as plug and play then follow instructions. The gestures are intuitive and make sense when they work. But I feel like people aged 50+ may have difficulty using this without a younger generation assisting. Doesn't help that my parents don't want it in their room after testing it because they fear that cameras can be hacked into..

Just not that useful.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a Sony x90l 65 inch tv that's just about 5 months old and I did not see this item as an add on when I bought it. I figured i’d give it a try, even though I am very, very happy with how it’s performing without this. I wanted to see if thus could do anything different for my tv. Set up is easy, sit on top of the TV, plug in, the TV detects it, then follow along. The tutorial is helpful and did help me learn the features, mainly the hand gestures. I will use this with zoom with the family occasionally. I use my tv with an external sound system. So far, what gains have I seen with this in my current set up for viewing and sound? Nothing to my perception. The picture looks good at all times, I had the built in auto brightness on before this, I see nothing different in any of the viewing situations. Generally it always looks good. As for the sound, nothing different. I toggle between hdmi arc vs optical cable depending on what I am doing. Most times dialogue is better on optical cable vs hdmi, so I use that. I don't have an atmos system, but generally it's the dts or dolby mixes playing on sound. As for the hand gestures. It may be handy, so to speak, if you are the other person without the remote and need to pause the show or turn the sound up, but the remote is quicker. This has a long lag for detection, and by the time this detects my movements and such, the remote could be obtained and my function cpuld be done. I'm sure an A-V expert would complain how high my tv is (above a fireplace) and I'm sure thus may cause some issues with the camera detecting my movements, but this is where it is, and it works well for me. Overall, this is a nice gimmick, reasonable idea, with the best intentions but really only ads a camera that I can use for video calls. I do not see that any other webcams are supported by this tv, so I don't think this is an alternative. Is this with the investment, I would say no. Does it work, yes, does it do the gestures and calls, yes. Is it slow and not sensitive, for me yes. Does it ad anything to my watching experience picture and sound wise for my setup, no. I do not reccomend this. It's not a complete bomb, but I can only give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Creative “Extra” for your Sony TV
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony Bravia cam is a pretty unique upgrade to your newer Sony Bravia series 4K television. Sony has built on the user experience and given you options to increase the abilities of your TV in a few fun ways. I am not sure this is something for the average TV watcher, but there are features that everyone in the family could use, and I will explain my thoughts on that as you read. First off, since it is a camera you can think of it a little bit like adding a camera to your computer monitor. In that respect, the first thing I think of in this post pandemic world are video calls. The most common being via the application Zoom. This does just that. IT turns your TV into a giant monitor and you can adjust the settings just like you would on your computer to a certain extent. I am still fiddling with this admittedly, as I think I would still prefer my computer over a TV for this. My TV is in the living room and I prefer the privacy of my home office. However, if you were doing something with family members or something of the like I could see this being fun. The features I do like about this the most are related to proximity. They actually refer to them as proximity features, and as you can imagine they directly relate to where you are in room in relation to the TV. For instance, if you are alone in the room the camera will see where you are obviously. It will in turn adjust the picture and sound to the optimal viewing and sound for you. So I can safely say this works and works pretty well. I do notice a difference in sound, but maybe it is just my set up because I don't see any difference in picture. But then again, that would be somewhat of a challenge to see a huge difference. Also, I cannot attest to how well this works with a group of people sitting in various locations in the room. The gesture feature for controlling your TV is pretty cool, but for me it did not work very well. So you can see in the guide how it works, but in short you can use different hand movements and the TV will be controlled as the cam sees you doing it. So for instance, turning up the volume or other simple features. For me? The controls lagged in their response and it got a bit frustrating. Fun feature though, and I hope an update fixes the lag. So special note here. If you did not already read it, this is a brand specific device. Meaning, this cam will only work on Sony Bravia TVs, and at that only newer models. So take a read at the fine print before you pull the trigger and make sure the model you have or the model you are getting is compatible. This is a fun extra to add to your TV. But that is all it is for me. If you like gadgets and getting that "one thing extra" that not everyone will have, go for it. I could see using this in a business for large zoom meetings for numerous branches around the country or world, and I see great valued in that respect. But for the average consumer it is a 50/50 for me. I do recommend it for the two examples I provided, and 100% for the business example. I like it so far, and we will see how it grows on me as I have it for a longer period of time.

A nice add on to your primary TV
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All of my TVs are made by Sony. If you’re looking to add this to your gadget arsenal, you are probably a Sony fan. Whether you are a Sony fanboy or just got your first one and love it, this add-on is a niche product. It’s a nice add-on to your TV, but not really necessary, in my opinion. Opening the box, all you get is some paperwork, an adapter you can use for the front lip if your bezel is too thin for the camera (mine wasn’t), and the camera itself. The USB cable has one time use sticky pads for routing the wire neatly along the back of your TV, but I didn’t use them. Right when you boot up your TV with it plugged in for the first time, it pops up “Set up BRAVIA CAM” and asks if you want to enable gesture control. After that, it updates software in the background, which took around 30 seconds. After that, the cam showed up in Remote & Accessories. The optional functionality includes gesture control and proximity alert, both of which I don’t use. Those allow you to change volume, etc. and warns you if someone gets too close to the TV, features I don’t need. The primary feature I use it for is the auto power saving mode. If it doesn’t detect a person watching, it goes into power save mode. It’s a useful feature to me because I often leave my TV on all day as I’m moving around the house and it has helped make sure I’m not burning the TV out all the time unnecessarily. If you’re already a Sony person, you’re used to paying a premium for their excellent products. In this case, the add-on includes Sony tax, but it’s worth it if you have a reason to use it. There are other features I’ve read about such as video calling and audio direction beamforming, but I don’t use them. Power saving is enough for me. A really useful feature I didnt know I needed until I had it.

Sony and their cool add-ons
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony BRAVIA CAM is an innovative addition to the smart TV landscape, offering a range of features that aim to enhance the user experience and revolutionize the way we interact with our televisions. In this comprehensive review, we delve into the various aspects of the BRAVIA CAM, examining its functionalities, ease of use, potential drawbacks, and overall value proposition. Core Features and Functionality At its core, the BRAVIA CAM is designed to transform your TV into a communication and entertainment hub. It comes equipped with a high-resolution camera, microphone array, and advanced image processing capabilities. These components work together to enable features. However, there is a learning curve associated with mastering all the gesture commands, and the feature may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who prefer traditional remote controls. Additionally, the video call quality can be affected by network conditions and lighting, although it generally performs well in well-lit environments with a stable connection. So be sure to have a solid internet, wired internet if you can. And a well-lit room. No camera is great enough to see in the dark. Potential Concerns and Limitations While the BRAVIA CAM offers a plethora of features, there are a few potential concerns that warrant consideration. Firstly, privacy is a valid concern, as the camera and microphone are always active when the TV is on. Sony has implemented privacy measures such as a physical lens cover and the ability to disable the camera and microphone when not in use, but users should be aware of the potential for data collection and the importance of securing their devices. Therefore, I recommend just simply disconnecting it after use and leave it there. It's a lot safer than just using the cover alone. Secondly, the added cost of the BRAVIA CAM may deter some potential buyers. The camera is sold separately from the TV, and its price point may not be justifiable for all users, especially those who don't prioritize video calls or gesture controls. However, for those of us who do, it's definitely worth it. There has to be a need for any product. My parents three states away having the ability to see and hear their grandchildren is definitely worth it to me. Overall Value Proposition The Sony BRAVIA CAM is undoubtedly an innovative and feature-rich accessory that has the potential to redefine the smart TV experience. Its video call capabilities, gesture controls (technology taken from PlayStation division, no doubt), and ambient optimization features are genuinely impressive and add value to the viewing experience. What I will simply say about this television add-on is, is it worth it to you? If the answer is yes then it's a complete no-brainer, definitely get one because it makes your Sony Bravia television just that much better. If not, we understand, but don't forget to invest in a PlayStation 5, that's worth it to anybody. I have both so I can speak to it.

This is a great product!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is so fun! I cannot explain how easy this was to setup. The instructions were clear, on screen guidance was helpful. The biggest thing I think people will have problems with is buying this for an unsupported tv. Potential buyers, please make sure your tv supports this before buying. Video quality is exceptional. It helps to have a hard wired connection the internet to guarantee good video quality. Audio quality was directed and easy to hear both directions. The proximity alert feature is nice. Allows my kids to know when they get too close to the tv. The last feature I really enjoy is how the tv uses the camera to change the brightness of the screen to help offset eye strain. If you have your TV mounted the wall, you may have to take it off the mount to insert the plug. If you’re in the market for a video calling, picture brightness optimizing, great sounding machine, look no further! This tech will take your television to the next level and you won’t regret it. You’ll only wonder why you didn’t buy it sooner

Not the best
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Big Sony fan here I’ll start by saying usually they can do no wrong in my book. This is the exception. I have a Bravia tv so the install was easy enough. Plug it into the top of the tv at least on mine and off you go to the setup. Setup was fairly easy is is all Sony compatible products. Easy instructions that the set up walks you through all the gestures seemed to work great during set up. Then once it was done I tried to play around with the camera and the new gestures I just learned. Some this the gestures worked sometimes not definitely not consistent at all. At first glance the camera is great crystal clear and nice and bright. Then the freezing happens which is very annoying. I stoped playing and went to watch a movie. I turned out the lights and started the movie but kept getting distracted. The little light on the camera is always on and bright. You can’t not see it once you do. It got very difficult to see anything but that after awhile. I had really high hopes for this camera but just didn’t meet expectations. I’m sure future models will get better with time.

Does Not Work With Bravia 3 2024 TV as of Now
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product is supposed to be really simple to work with by plugging it into a compatible XR TV. There are many listed on Sonys website and Bravia 3 is one of the TV's listed. I plugged it into my brand new Bravia 3 and it did not register. I kept trying to diagnose the problem maybe thinking something was wrong with the usb input but connecting my DSLR via usb worked so that wasn't an issue. I reached out to Sony for support and I was told that Bravia 3 does not support the main features of the camera and will only work as a webcam. I tried using it with Google Meet but the TV does not register a camera or microphone. I was told that a firmware update in the future will allow additional feautres like Zoom video call through the Zoom app but this is not yet supported. At this time, the camera does not work with Bravia 3 so listing it as compatible is incorrect at this time. Once the firmware updates go live, I'll see if the camera works with Bravia 3 but for the moment, it is useless which is too bad because I was really excited to use the sound optimization features.
