I recently purchased the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 9, and it has completely transformed my home entertainment experience. Whether I'm streaming my favorite music or watching the latest blockbuster in Dolby Atmos, this soundbar delivers exceptional performance.
The 13 speakers create an immersive soundscape that fills the room with rich, detailed audio. The clarity of dialogue, the depth of bass, and the precision of surround sound effects are truly remarkable. It's like bringing the cinema into my living room!
What really stands out is how well this soundbar handles Dolby Atmos. You can feel the audio moving around you, making action scenes more intense and music more vibrant. It's perfect for anyone who loves a fully immersive sound experience.
Setup was a breeze, and the sleek design of the soundbar complements my living room perfectly. If you're looking for a high-quality soundbar that excels in both music and movie performance, the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 9 is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!

Surprisingly good without a sub

When I first received this the sound bar, I was surprised it didn’t come with a subwoofer as other sounds bars, I have used usually do or they don’t sound great. There is an option to add a sub and speakers but after setup and trying it actually sounds good without. On the sounds side I was impressed and would recommend it beyond just the speakers of a TV. I would have like to see how the option sub and speakers sound and if it’s better but generally the sound is pretty good.
Setup was simple too. Take it out the box, connect to HDMI 1 on the TV and download the app. The app runs you through the setup and gets it working with your TV and also connected to your internet. Once setup you can still use the app to turn it on and off. The AirPlay also seems to work pretty well at first, I used Bluetooth but then found I can simply go to the share menu on the iPhone and the soundbar shows up and you can output to it. So, if you’re listening to music and want to turn it on just switch over.
The one thing missing is just being able to use the app to play music. It needs AirPlay to work so there isn’t too much to use the app after install. The other bad part is to get the full experience you need to add more and the sub and speakers. Wish it was all together but even just the sound bar is good.
Overall a good soundbar with nice integration with airplay. Good upgrade from a regular TV speaker.

Great 360 sound from Sony

Overall I am very happy with the rich sound my new Sony Bravia 8 sound bar provides. Starting with the basics which I typically don’t get into, but this Sony soundbar was shipped in very solid packaging to keep this sound machine safe from damage and/or moisture. It comes with a hdmi cable for connection to your tv so no need to scramble to find one. The remote is tiny with few buttons needed to control things. There are feet that come with it if you need to elevate the bar to slide a tv stand under it or you can wall mount with the provided brackets.
Set up was quick and easy using the Sony Bravia app. The app has many of the same controls as the remote with additional features to customize the sound to your room, connections, and quality as seen in the pictures. You should definitely optimize the sound for your room for the best 360 spatial sound quality.
The default sound quality is exceptional after optimization. The bass is adjustable within the app and at the mid level provides a nice deep boom without bothering the neighbors. Worried you’re going to disturb someone? Switch to night mode in the app or on the remote and get clear sound with a lower volume without rocking the house. The 11 speakers produce a very full sound with the 360 spatial mapping which bounces sound off walls to create what Sony terms phantom speakers. It’s really immersive and upscales your content in real time to make compressed sounds sound full and rich as they are intended to be.
Again overall, I’m thrilled with the sound coming from this Sony Bravia soundbar. I like to not only hear my music and movies, but to also feel them and immerse myself in the sounds and moods they provide and this soundbar definitely allows for this.

Recently purchased this soundbar to upgrade from the HT-A5000 but preferred our old one over this one because we prefer stronger bass. The sound quality of the soundbar is great and very crisp, but the voice is what sounds very low when watching movies with very loud background noises. The soundbar does not give you much opportunity to change any settings and adjust the sound to the way you'd like compared to the HT-A5000. Overall great soundbar with premium quality but just something to keep in mind if you like adjusting the levels of sound.

Bar 8 with Bravia 8 TV is ok, but not great system

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 sounds better than the speakers on the BRAVIA 8 OLED TV, but it is not very user friendly. The Bar 8 doesn't provide anything other than a couple LEDs on the front-it doesn't provide any on-screen information to indicate settings or aid in configuration. Sony apparently thinks an app on yet another device (a smartphone) makes more sense for configuration than using the video device that the Bar 8 is directly attached to. Sony may be more interested in harvesting data through the Sony account you have to create to use the app than making the Bar 8 and Bravia 8 TVs easy to operate.
One quirk that I found is that if the Bar 8 is used as a Bluetooth speaker from another device (an advertised feature), then it stops working automatically from the connected Bravia 8 TV until it is reconnected. Surprisingly, the Bar 8s operation with the Bravia 8 TV (both current year models from the same manufacturer) is far less "automatic" than my Denon 2313 surround sound system working with my 2013 Panasonic Plasma TV (a 12 year old multi-vendor system), which flawlessly switches between various audio sources.
Hi MarkJ, thanks for choosing and purchasing our product. We're sorry to hear that you have an issue with the indicators and connectivity of the soundbar with the TV.
The HTA8000 soundbar does not have a front panel display for indicating its status or settings. To adjust the settings, you typically need to use the Sony Music Center app or the remote control. Unfortunately, there is no built-in display on the soundbar itself to show the settings directly. If you prefer not to use the app, you can use the remote control to navigate through the settings, but you will need to rely on the on-screen display of your connected TV to see the changes.
For a more seamless experience, you might consider using the soundbar with the TV through a wired connection, such as HDMI ARC/eARC, which can help maintain a stable connection between the devices.

I picked this up to replace my Bose 900 because of hdmi issues with my Bravia 9 tv. This soundbar is absolutely terrific with a clear and detailed sound and good seperation as well. When I first heard it after hooking it up, I was floored at the sound quality much better than I even expected. Quite powerful theater like sound and no hdmi issues like my bose had with this tv. I aslo picked up the sw5 sub and it boosted the bass even more. The bar had decent bass on its own, just not thunderous as I have now with the sub. Sony quality is awesome and the only thing I dont like is having to use a stupid app to set it up and make adustments. They need to include a full function remote control with on screen adjustment which would make this bar unbeatable with a bravia 9 tv.

Hi EdwardB,
We could not be more pleased that you found the soundbar's acoustic performance to be so powerful and detailed, providing excellent audio separation. We are especially delighted that this sound system is working seamlessly with your BRAVIA 9 television!
It is wonderful to hear the optional SA-SW5 subwoofer further enhanced the deep-bass frequency response for your home cinema setup.
We appreciate you sharing your input regarding the use of the mobile application for settings and the desire for a comprehensive remote control system. Feedback concerning control methods is extremely valuable, and we will certainly share this suggestion with our development teams for future product consideration.
Thank you for choosing Sony and enjoy every moment of your cinematic experience!

Thank you for sharing your review and for highlighting your experience with the HT-A9000, DENISONP! We're thrilled to hear that you found the sound to be spectacular. The HT-A9000 is designed to deliver an immersive, theater-like surround sound experience, featuring 13 speakers and advanced 360 Spatial Sound Mapping to fill your space with clear and detailed audio.
When it comes to bass performance, the soundbar itself produces well-balanced sound with a focus on clarity across all frequencies. However, to give you even deeper and more impactful bass—especially for movies, gaming, or music with heavy low-end—you can expand your setup by adding an optional subwoofer, such as the BRAVIA Theatre Sub 7 or SA-SW5. These subwoofers are designed to seamlessly integrate with the HT-A9000 and provide a more powerful bass presence, which many customers find enhances their overall audio experience.
So, while the HT-A9000 sounds great on its own, adding the subwoofer is recommended if you want that extra bass punch you might be missing. We're glad you pointed this out for other customers who may be considering a similar setup.
If you have any questions about compatible subwoofers or setup tips, please let us know! Your feedback helps us—and other users—make the most of the HT-A9000 sound system.
Thanks again for choosing Sony and for being a valued customer!

I was looking for a 3D type sound system and rep at the store recommended this. At first I was like how can this work, where are all the speakers! They didn't have a sample on display to checkout so I trusted the rep, he also assured me I could return it and bought it. I am happy to report that the sound quality awesome, it exceeded my expectations. I would never I thought a single sound bar could produce such robust sound that fill in my big living room!
We are so happy to hear that the BRAVIA Theater Bar 8 exceeded your expectations! It’s completely understandable to be a bit skeptical at first—looking at a single, slim bar, it’s hard to imagine how it could possibly replace a room full of speakers.
The "magic" you’re hearing is thanks to the 11 internal speaker units working alongside our 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology. By reflecting sound off your walls and ceiling, the bar creates "phantom speakers" all around you, which is how it manages to fill such a large living room with that robust, 3D audio.
Thank you for trusting Sony and for sharing your experience!

This sound bar gets loud! I have the model before this and wanted to try this one out. First you have to use the app for EVERYTHING....I haven't had any issues with it yet but I could definitely see this being a problem at some point. This set up was easy and connected to rear speakers and sub without an issue. They give you the option to connect to your TV speakers but I'd rather just use the soundbar speakers. The unit gets really loud and sounds good (not sure if it sounds better then last years model H700). It doesn't have an LCD like last years model, it just has a light on the front. If you have last years model don't worry it's not worth it to spend the extra money IMO

The soundbar is adequate for what I'm used to.. I feel it's missing options to where you can fine-tune it yourself. You have to go with the factory set settings and I'm not a fan of that.⁹
It does give you very good sound. I just wish I gave you more options.
We are pleased to hear you are enjoying the sound quality of your BRAVIA Theater Bar 8! While the factory settings provide a balanced starting point, you can unlock more control by using the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app on your smartphone. Within the app, you can fine-tune the audio using the Equalizer (EQ) settings and adjust the Sound Field features to better suit your personal listening preferences.
Thanks for choosing Sony.

Decent Soundbar with Some Issues

First and foremost the Sony Bravia Soundbar 8 produces good sound for all types of sources it is connected to, whether it is cable/satellite, streaming services, 4K/regular Bluray player, etc. This soundbar especially shines when Dolby Atmos is engaged (available thru various streaming services and 4K Bluray discs); the soundfield is truly remarkable with the widening sound stage you are presented with. I do not have a subwoofer like some of you have, as I personally feel it is adequate enough for my needs. As far as issues I’ve had with this, well when I turn on my excellent Sony XR65A95L OLED TV (review coming soon on that one) it takes a solid 10 or so seconds before the audio from the soundbar gets connected. During this 10 seconds you’ll hear the voices then it will cut out, you’ll hear voices once more and then it will cut out again until finally a few seconds later the voices will come back permanently. Really not sure what the problem is but it is annoying to say the least. Other issue is about a handful of times the soundbar did not connect to my TV and the audio was coming from the TV speakers, not the audio system (it tells you this) so I had to disconnect the soundbar from the TV, waited about 10 seconds, reconnected and then everything was fine…audio system recognized. Funny things happen with bluetooth connectivity is what I’ve attributed this to but again, just annoying. So in summary this is a good sounding soundbar, make no mistake about it but it is a bit buggy at times that can get frustrating.
Hi Bones, thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with the Sony - BRAVIA Theater Bar 8! We are glad that is serving you well with the excellent sound quality, Dolby Atmos and the Sound field effect. In regards to the connectivity issue you're having while using the Sound bar with the TV, we understand this can be really frustrating to deal with. Therefore we would like to share some recommendations to resolve it. 1- Perform a handshake, you will need to unplug the TV and the Sound bar from the power for 2 min, as well as the HDMI cable connected. Then you plug the TV back and turn it on, after that, plug the sound bar, turn it on and connect the HDMI cable, make sure you do it ARC to ARC. 2- Enable the Bravia Sync device list, you can go to your TV settings > channels and inputs > external inputs > Bravia sync settings > Bravia sync device list > press "Enable". This will ensure both devices are synced 3- Make sure the Sound bar is up to date, you can into your Sound bar settings > Software update We hope these steps help you in getting it to work the way it should be, if the issue persists, you can contact our technical support team via: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=headphones Thank you for choosing Sony! I was use to other soundbars where you have to constantly make sound adjustments. So at first I was confused and searching for things to tweak. But soon I realized that after initial set up and having my optimal settings completed, I could just relax and watch my content with minimal involvements on my part other than volume control. I competely understand why some other reviewers are unnerved by not being more involved with the operation of the soundbar. However, this soundbar sounds great with almost no manual input from the user post set up. It is very inteligent that way. Once I realized I could just enjoy the content, I realized what a great soundbar this is.
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful experience with the BRAVIA Theater Bar 8! We're immensely pleased to hear that, after the initial setup, you've been able to simply sit back and enjoy your content without needing to constantly make adjustments. The soundbar is designed to provide an optimized and intelligent listening experience, and it's wonderful to know that this has allowed you to relax and focus on what matters most—your entertainment. We truly appreciate your feedback and recommendation!

Amazing sound, got it paired up with the rs5 rear speakers and the sw5 sub and it sounds incredible. Only 2 problems. One, the spatial audio calibration process only works about half the time, so anytime you move a speaker and go to recalibrate it on the app it doesn’t work. Then it will just randomly work again even though you did nothing different. Two, the sound drops every once in a while. Just for like 2 seconds but then the system like slowly turns back on and takes awhile for the sound to come out properly. Super annoying, if I pay about $3,000 for a home theater setup it should work perfectly. I did end up returning all items in my setup and am waiting on my wired 5.2.2 sony to arrive.
