Bravia Theater Bar 9 with 13 speakers delivers exceptional sound quality for cinematic experience at home. While I have not tested other soundbars, it works as advertised, filling the room with immersive cinematic audio experience and integrating flawlessly with the Sony Bravia 9 TV. This is my first soundbar and Sony did not disappoint.

Sound is powerful and immersive. The bass is excellent with the internal woofer setup and you can adjust it using the remote or app. Voice mode helped with difficult dialogue once indistinguishable with the background noise. Definitely reccomend using the *Bravia app* with the soundbar. It adjusts the audio to your sitting position and how the room takes it in.

Great Soundbar, BUT Beware of How It Mounts!

The Soundbar is heavy but the sound is excellent! The only issue is that the Soundbar Mount is separate from the Wall Mount for the 85" Bravia 9 Mini LED QLED 4K TV. The Soundbar mount will attach to the TV Wall Mount, but it doesn't allow the Soundbar to slide up to the bottom of the TV! For all of the other smaller TV sizes in this model, the Soundbar is adjustable and will slide up to the bottom of the TV. Nobody at Best Buy knew this, so my measurements for where the TV needs to be mounted were off by 3 inches! It was too late in the game to correct this problem. The new piece of furniture ordered is 30" high. The Soundbar will need to just sit on the top of the Entertainment Furniture. Check first and verify with Best Buy if you plan on purchasing this Soundbar. Their staff don't seem to know about this issue and assume that the Soundbar can slide up to the bottom of the TV. We truly miss the Entertainment Consults Best Buy used to have, but let go. Cost Savings maneuver?

Hi TomP, We appreciate you sharing your feedback regarding on the mounting of the sound bar together with the TV. We truly understand your situation and the setup you're trying to attain. Your feedback can help us improve more and rest assured, this will be looked into. However, when mounting the TV and the soundbar to the wall, we recommend reaching out to a professional installer. This is for safety and product protection. The wall must have the strength to withstand four times (six times in some models) the weight of the TV and the soundbar. Regards, -Craig Sony_US

This is a hard review to write because this bar 8 should easily be 5 star but it is held back by some bad Sony decisions. This bar beats the A7000 and A5000 hands down from previous generation. The remote is limited and should have included the rear speaker controls maybe Sony didn't expect you to buy the rear speakers. Requires App to install the bar which might lead to future problems if app loses support from Sony. 360 spatial Sound field mode which is the selling point works better if you have a dedicated subwoofer and rear speakers. I have the SW5 and SR5 speakers supporting the bar, which integrates better with the sound field compared with the A7000. if u are watching movies from an uncompressed source like a physical disc, this bar is incredible. this is the best atmos experience I have ever heard from a soundbar. From a compressed source like streaming from netflix or itunes it sounds okay but the difference is really obvious. Sony has removed the sound modes cinema, music, auto in favour spatial sound, dolby virtualizer, and neural x. The latter 2 sound terrible. Sony needs to put in a center speaker control in the app to help increase voice volume. This sound bar needs a firmware update to enhance compressed audio quality and give users more controls like center channel and EQ settings to tailor the sound to how we like it because this 360 spatial mapping doesn't work in every scenario.

    Great sound quality, wonky settings

Very good quality sound bar. Worth the price. Comes with 2 small "feet" that have soft rubber backing for elevation and not damaging whatever surface it is on. Easy to access HDMI, optical, etc ports. No digital display in it, only 3 dot lights in the lower right (white and blue colors for modes). Its not a 5-star rating because the only control over settings is via a phone app. While overall more approachable than its predecessor (HT9Z sound bar, which had horribly unstable subwoofer connection and which relied only on eARC) and with perfectly reliable subwoofer connections, it doesn't have all the settings it needs to sound right. Sound bar by itself: 2.0 connection. Sounds a bit strained trying to make a subwoofer effect with only treble speakers. Adding in the subwoofer and the woofer balances great but jumps to 5.1 setting... I have no rear speakers in my setup so sounds from "behind" are improperly loud in the side speakers from the Bar. Especially disorienting and frustrating in video games more than tv or movies. And no way to change that setting. Changing it away from "adaptive surround" to just "high quality simulated" helped, but then the volume levels between sources get wonky. I still recommend it because an app is quicker to update than firmware so I think this setting oddity will get corrected before long.

I bought this for the entire Bravia package, which included OLED Tv, Soundbar, Subwoofer, Wireless speakers. This sound bar is the most disappointing part of the lineup. Setup was easy for me, but considering 90% of setup had to be completed in the app (which is not clear on any manual) I don't see this as a convenient option for most users. Sound optimization is terrible, extremely minimal tweeks available. It's great on how plug and play it is with the Bravia TVs, but for how little options are included for the price, theres a lot to be desired. Hooked up to the wireless surround speakers, I have to use my phone's microphone for optimization (which I have to problem with) but it created an extremely dissatisfing sound, no matter what configuration I had this in. For comparison, my HT-A7000 (Which I paid nearly half the price for) has the "same amount of speakers" but is a much better sound system. Surround speakers sounded much better, has better configuration options, and has its settings interface accessable from the unit rather than exclusively through a smartphone.

Thank you so much for sharing your detailed feedback about the Bravia package and the HT-A9000, KadenE. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience with the soundbar hasn’t met your expectations, especially in comparison to the HT-A7000. We take input like yours seriously as it helps us understand real-world use and improve both our products and support.

      Addressing Your Main Concerns
      App-Based Setup and Configuration
You mentioned that most of the HT-A9000’s setup and settings are only accessible via the BRAVIA Connect app, and that this wasn’t clearly stated in the manual. Your observation is valid—the HT-A9000 relies on the BRAVIA Connect app for the majority of setup steps, device management, and sound customization options. This design enables advanced features like network integration, seamless firmware updates, and system control from a smart device, but it can be less intuitive for users who would prefer traditional remote or panel-based configuration. We understand that this shift might not feel convenient for everyone, and your feedback will definitely be shared with the development team.

      Sound Optimization and Tweak Options
It’s disappointing to hear that the sound optimization process, especially when using your phone’s microphone, hasn’t delivered satisfying results. The HT-A9000 aims to provide immersive surround through features like 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, which calibrates sound based on room characteristics using the app and your device’s microphone. While this technology is designed for flexibility, we recognize that it may not always match the level of manual sound tweaking or interface accessibility some users expect. Your direct comparison to the HT-A7000—praising its sound, physical configuration options, and unit-based settings—highlights real differences in how each model approaches user control and optimization.

Value and Feature Differences (HT-A9000 vs. HT-A7000)
The HT-A9000 is indeed Sony’s newest flagship, boasting more speakers and next-gen spatial audio features. However, your point about the value proposition and user interface, especially when compared with the HT-A7000, is valid. The HT-A7000 provides a more traditional remote interface and settings that are accessible directly on the unit, which some users may find preferable.

      Integration and Plug-and-Play
We’re glad to hear that you found the integration with Bravia TVs straightforward and the setup process relatively easy—even if much of it is app-based. The plug-and-play harmony within the Bravia ecosystem remains a focus for us, and your positive note on this is appreciated.

      Support Options and Next Steps
If you are open to it, our support team would be happy to troubleshoot your specific setup to see if any adjustments or updates can help improve the sound quality and user experience. Sometimes running the sound field optimization again, ensuring all devices have the latest firmware, or tweaking room placement can lead to significant improvements.

Your feedback comparing models like the HT-A9000 and HT-A7000 is invaluable as we strive to balance innovation with usability. Your concerns will be shared with our product teams for future updates and documentation improvements. If you decide to give the app-based features another try, or if you have further feedback, please let us know—we’re here to help.

Thank you again for your honest review and for being part of the Sony community.

      Best regards,
      Gus

If you’re looking for an entry-level soundbar that truly enhances your home theater experience, the Sony Bar 8 paired with the Sony subwoofer is a fantastic choice. Right out of the box, the setup is smooth, and once it’s up and running, the sound quality is remarkable for its price point. The bass from the subwoofer brings depth to movies and music, while the soundbar provides clear highs and mids, making for an immersive experience that’s hard to beat in this range. The sound balance is one of the biggest highlights—whether I’m watching a movie with booming effects or listening to music, the clarity and power of the audio are impressive. Dialogues come through crisp and clear, and the bass adds a satisfying punch that fills the room without overwhelming the other frequencies. For anyone getting started with home audio, the Sony Bar 8 delivers an experience that feels high-end without breaking the bank. It’s an ideal choice for first-time buyers and a great upgrade for anyone still using basic TV speakers.

Aesthetically speaking, this is one of the best looking soundbars out there with the minimalist styling. Placed on the right hutch or on a wall, it's barely noticeable. This is where the positive ends. I'm one of the few that prefers no screen on the soundbar. Connecting to my A80J, I thought a Sony product connected to another would be perfect and easy. It's anything but. After connecting this soundbar, my TV became slow to respond to any input from the TV remote. Adjusting the volume takes forever. After disconnecting the soundbar, the TV returned back to its normal status, volume up/down is quick along with cycling through menus. Something about this soundbar taxes the TV's resources. The Wi-Fi audio connectivity to Spotify and others needs work. This is by far the worst part of the soundbar. Music through the TV works better. For example, listening to Spotify at volume 50 through just the soundbar, turning off the soundbar, then later returning to power on the TV turns Spotify back on and playing the last track at volume 50. It's a jarring experience, especially after not being in the living room for a few hours. The proprietary EQ is good for the masses but sometimes slight adjustments are needed. It would be nice for Sony to provide an option to provide a minimum 5 band EQ in later versions. Please do better, Sony. This coming from a household that uses all Sony TVs and portable devices for many decades.
