This is a great camera for vacations ! it has all the features that make it perfect for trips. fits in your pocket 30x zoom + digital wifi so you can download to your phone or I-pad and send pictures home. This is our second sony dsc camera .2 automatic modes work great. it takes pictures in low light in places that your eyes can't even see. Zoom is incredible for such a small camera. viewfinder is a great addition since last camera we owned( Dsc hx50v) Try it in the store ,I bet you'll like it!

Though everyone uses their cameras to take photos, it’s still nice to use an actual camera that isn’t a bulky DSLR. This camera is compact and still provides crisp, clear photos. Simple auto modes or adjustable manual settings go a long way. Good for the price and also has a flip screen to let you take selfies. I do wish they allowed the screen to close into the back of the camera to prevent damage or when you want to use the viewfinder similar to how most DSLR screens are.

Purchased this camera to use at times when carrying my Nikon D5500 was just not going to be practical. While this camera is certainly not a replacement for a DSLR, it has surprised me at the quality of photos it will take even in lower light conditions. It is certainly worth carrying with you rather than relying solely on a cell phone. Focus is fast in most lighting conditions, it can take up to 10 frames per second (3 faster than the Nikon), and it has a flip up viewfinder which is good for selfies or taking pictures at a low angle. It has 5 axis image stabilization and a pop-up viewfinder which really set this camera a part from others in this price range. Color quality of the photos has been very good with the majority of photos I have taken being vibrant and sharp (all have been indoors so far). The menu settings are easy to use and you can quickly set it up for different lighting conditions and environments. The manual modes are also an added bonus for a pocketable camera. Overall this camera exceeded my expectations, and i would recommend this to someone who wants sharp and vibrant pictures without having to lug a DSLR around all the time. Just keep in mind this is not a DSLR replacement, and it does have limitations due to it's small sensor size, and limited f-stop range.

    Pretty Good Camera for 2018

I wanted a new camera that would allow me to upload and email my pictures while I was on a trip to Europe. So, I eliminated all the cameras that did not have wifi or bluetooth or nfc to my phone. It also had to be small enough to fit in my pocket. Some of the reviews for this camera complained that it was too fragile. I did not find that to be the case. It went all over Europe in my pocket and came out without a scratch. In case it was true, though, I did by the service plan as insurance against breakage. It was about 10% of the cost of the camera, but it does provide peace of mind. I took about 700 pictures on the trip, had to charge the battery once in addition to the initial full charge. Filled up one 64gb memory card and part of a second. I did have a couple issues though. First, the buttons and dials on the right side of the camera can inadvertently be pressed when taking pictures. You just have to be careful and not press the buttons. Had a little trouble with panoramic pictures, the camera kept telling me to keep it level and would abort the picture. I think it's an acquired skill. It also took a while to get taking videos, but by the end of the trip I was able to take videos. The thing I liked best about the camera was it was small, fit in my pocket, took pictures and I was able to easily transfer them to my phone and send them home. For about $300 I feel like I got my money's worth.

I bought to use as a beginner photographer. I am very impressed with the quality of the pictures. The zoom is amazing and crystal clear. No blur, at all. It's small enough to carry in a small purse. The only thing is if you have a large hand, it feels sort of awkward in my hand, like I have to really hold it tight. I think it's a keeper. Also, you can't change lenses or add lenses to it. Oh and the selfie function is awesome!

While the DSC-HX80 takes quality pictures with good color, its pop up viewfinder that lets me see how to take good pictures on bright sunny days is the real winning feature. While I still like my larger cameras with their eye level viewfinders, the portability of this one is great. To use the pop up feature requires sliding the rear lenses back and adjusting the lever for your eye (one time for the lever).

I shot some great photos of some aircraft in flight at a recent airshow with this camera. The 30x optical zoom and built-in pop-up viewfinder are great to have in such a compact point & shoot camera. WIFI transfers were also decently fast to transfer to my phone. Battery life far exceeded my expectations and allows you to charge via USB with the battery in the camera. Outside and Daytime use are fine, however the sensor is too small for most indoor and low light scenes, you will have lots of noise in your photos taken in low light with this camera.

I purchased this camera to use with me on travel and also when I am bicycling. It is light, it is easy to handle and it comes with a great pop-up OLED viewfinder that I use more than the display on the back. The WiFi connection utility is handy but kind of clunky to use. The zoom is great. The picture quality is very good given the size of the sensor. When I don't have my DSLR with me, it is great to have this little camera. The 30x zoom is amazing and the image stabilization works well at that focal length. I also considered the Sony RX100 but the low zoom range was a deal breaker. As long as you understand that you are working with a smallish sensor and there will be some noise, you will be happy. If you tend to blow up and do an inspection of every pixel in an image, you may want to look elsewhere.

The camera was in the box, but the wrist strap and SD card were missing, otherwise this is a great camera. I had and older camera with an SD card and a strap, so the missing items were not a problem, and the price was right. I use the camera for personal and work. It takes great pictures, and its easy to use.

This is a great starter camera! We bought this to film video as we have a Nikon for photography. If you're looking for something that is hand held and easy to hold while filming this camera is great! We will be buying a monopod to pair up with the Canon. Oh and the customer service at Best Buy was A++!

I used to shoot with film and then digital slr's but will be retiring all of them to use this camera. Manual controls, easy shooting modes, a great flash and even a diopter adjustable view finder plus a large screen makes this perfect. The optical zoom range is phenomenal and so is the imagw quality.

I bought this for my Mom as a Mothers Day gift. I had originally bought her a different brand and the camera was quite a bit cheaper than the Sony. But once I got the other camera home and charged the battery I tried it out and the pictures were very grainy. So I took that camera back and after searching Best Buy I decided to go with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80. When I got home I charged the battery and took a few pictures to test it out and make sure it worked before giving it to my Mom. This camera makes excellent quality photos. The colors are so vibrant, but not in a fake way. Just perfect pictures. If you look into any of the higher end cameras, Sony is pretty much at the top of their game right now. This point and shoot Is no different. I bought the Sony RX 100 last year for a trip to NY and it makes awesome photos too. With the Sony DSC-HX80 you set the camera to Scene Intelligent, or Superior Intelligent (my favorite), and let the camera do all the work setting the ISO, Shutter speed, and Aperature. But what sets this camera apart from a lot of other cheaper cameras is that you can use manual mode and adjust those features to achieve a desired look. So if you're just getting into photography to can use this little point and shoot to get started without spending 1k plus on a higher end camera. Best Buy also sells a small Sony case that fits this camera perfect. This screen also tilts. Another feature that makes this camera great is the 5 axis image stabilizer. This helps you get sharp photos even with you move slightly while taking your picture. The Sony DSC-HX80 has lots to offer, my only con is that Sony does not include a battery charger (even their $2K camera). Have no fear though, It does come with a USB plug and USB cable. You just have to plug one end of that tiny cable into the camera and the other end into USB plug then plug it into a wall to charge the battery while in the camera. What makes this a bit of a pain is you can't hardly have your camera outside taking pictures if it's plugged into a wall can you? Thankfully, the battery is pretty good on this camera so I suggest buying a second battery (made by Sony for this camera) and charging both batteries that way you are covered. Or you can do what I did and buy Sony's battery charger and a second battery. My mom was very surprised and loves the camera.

The camera has a nice little pop-up flash and view-finder,has many alternatives on the top dial, almost like a DSLR, has a nice flip-up screen, powerful zoom, etc. The only drawback that I find with the camera is that you have to charge the battery in the camera. It also is 18.2 megapixels.

This cybershot by Sony was quite impressive, form the moment I opened it. Full disclosure, I also own the Sony mirrorless Alpha a6000, which is a beast! Much of the functionality with the Sony Alpha can be found built within the CyberShot. The settings are user to navigate through, with a circular component at the top to switch between such settings. The camera photo quality is rather good compared to other point and shoot cameras. Another major plus, is the size and weight. Very minimal room is occupied in our little carry-on bag or backpacks with bringing this little camera along for trips. As well, the camera's video record function deliver exceptionally great quality. So this may also be something worth getting for one interested in starting up a Vlog, or youtube channel. Only drawback, which is also found with the Sony Alpha series, is the audio recording quality. In Sony's defense, this is intended as a photo camera with the option to record videos, as it's not a camcorder. However, I would expect a bit more improvements with capturing noises for videos. The audio playback when previewing on a computer/tv/etc.. is not bad, by does lack slightly with delivering superior quality. If you're planning to make short videos, recording in environments that aren't loud, or have multiple sources of noise, you should be perfectly fine. The camera kind of picks up everything - either a good thing or bad thing depending on how you take it. But overall, a solid camera, and certainly worth the purchase.

Two features set this camera apart from most of its competition: 30x optical zoom and an eyepiece viewfinder; both work very well. The hinged screen is also nice for low-angle shots or selfies. The compact size makes it very portable, though maybe a little awkward to operate at first. Videos were very good and the sound surprisingly so (when played back through something other than the tiny speaker in the camera). The only negative is that the camera does not come with external battery charging (hence 4 stars instead of 5), but that shortcoming is easily overcome by purchasing a separate charger for the pn-bx1 battery.
