I don't know if it is just made for a Sony camera, but it would not fit our camera.

NOPE. Looked around for a decent enough shotgun mic and got this cause the price seemed fair over the Rode versions that got mixed reviews and were pretty pricey, but HOLD ON! This is a Sony mic on my Sony camera and when you put it on the hotshoe it cancels out the ability to change the volume. It just greys out in the menu. That's absurd for my first use of it-recording a live band. The audio was then oversaturated and distorted. Returning!
