I owned the Sony 18-200mm lens. I wanted a lens with a bit more range and the ability to use the lens on either a full-frame or crop-sensor Sony camera. The 24-240mm can do just that. The tradeoff is the lens is heavier, a bit bigger and cannot get as wide as the 18-200mm.
As with most lenses with a very wide ranges (24-240mm), there is a bit more softness than Prime lenses or those with lesser range. But, overall, this lens is very sharp. It works great with anything under 150mm. In fact, I find those photos very sharp. I only find a slight bit of softness when the lens is used in the most zoomed range (220-240mm) and even that is not a problem. It's easy to zoom and feels sturdy.
I use this lens with the Sony 6300 (a crop-sensor camera). This means that my camera uses mostly the center of the lens elements. This is usually the sharpest part of a lens. This seems to be very true of this lens. I find very few times I am unhappy with the clarity of a photo.
It should also be noted that some people mention they have had trouble with soft images in at the maximum focal range. This would be its softest area. But remember, on a crop-sensor camera like the Sony 6000, 6300 or 6500, this lens will act like a 360mm lens. It is important to have the shutter speed around 1/400 of a second if you are not using a tripod or using the len's internal stabilization. Even with stabilization, dropping below 1/160 of a second may be unwise--especially for objects far in the distance.
If you follow good photographic techniques, you will probably find this a very good quality lens that offer incredible range in a single package. The only complaint would be the lack of a wider angle when using it on a crop-sensor camera (it acts like 36mm on a full-frame camera). For wider shots, you would need to carry another lens.
If you are tired of changing lenses and want a single lens that can work with most situations, this is a good choice.

Like any good consumer, you must know what you want and why. When purchasing a Lens these factors for "point of use" are key, plus value/cost.
I enjoyed this lens greatly. I'll attach a low Res version of a photo I shot with this lens at a sunset. (I've shot varying subjects, I do like this set of shots with this lens) I zoomed in and out to find my focus and desired framing. I shot this from land. On my Sony A7 R II. No tripod. Just leaning on a railing for stabilization.
This is the natural image, not enhanced Etc...
I hope this is helpful.
It has a great wide range, good focus & quality. However for me, my interests aim for a lower F & sharper images that come from higher quality glass. So this gets 4 stars. This is a good value lens, just not the top of the line, but better than most. I need a 5 star lens, which will come at an even higher "5 star" type price, but I'm prepared to make that jump, even though I may lose range to about 200. This 24-240 has great range. Honestly I'm the type of person who likes simplicity in one amazing package. So I'd love a 16-300mm Sony G Lens if they could make it. It's sadly doesn't exist. LOL. Therefore my summation is that I just want this range in a more expensive package, most likely Sony G Master lens... If not Zeis...
This one is definitely nice for the price. However I need sharper shots & lower F capability for low light or night shooting. Sony is expensive. This isn't a cheap lens and became my "go to". So I certainly like it and chose it over many other options. It's just great to have that 24-240 range even though it's big & slightly heavy. There's not much choice in the Sony line for a all-in-one type lens for "running and gunning". Unfortunately, I just need higher quality for the type of work I will be shooting. So what I want is over twice the price! LOL budget is everything... This does the job nicely. I just need uncompromising excellence, so in my case I'm upgrading and holding out for a G Master Lens 20-200 and getting my pockets ready. Since that will be more than double the price just for the one lens, but you get what you pay for.

This is a very nice lens for what it is designed for: a single lens that covers 2/3 of the Holy Trio (16-24, 24-70, 70-200). I've taken some side-by-sides with my professional-level sony 70-200 2.8. I couldn't tell the difference. Now, granted at 200mm this was at 6.3 (more pronounce bokeh on the 2.8 (below). I accidentally left it on my A9 for some indoor volleyball and it was indeed much slower (had to crank the ISO). It's not highly rated by the professionals (no super zoom is), but I found it a really versatile lens.

All around great versatility image quality isn't as sharp as primes of course but still lots of very usable images. A big con is the weight nearly at 2 pounds it can be quite heavy but comparing it to how many focal lengths this covers its kinda the same as bringing maybe 3 primes. In the end if your looking for an all in one zoom lens, this might be the one your looking for.

The good - The price was right for an open box item. This lens has an impressive focal range. A nice all in one solution to fit most situations. The barrel extends but doesn't rotate the front element, which is a great design for use with a cpl filter.
The bad - This lens has mediocre image quality beyond 100mm or so. I will say, 24-70 seems just as sharp as other lenses in this range. It's a heavy lens, and not very well balanced on the small a7ii. This forced me to utilize a camera strap.
All in all, it's a decent lens for most situations, when used in the shorter focal ranges.
Side note, Best Buy has a 15% restocking fee, even on items that were sold as open box. Makes me wonder how many times the same lens was bought, used, returned, then sold again. I was hesitant to keep this lens, but it wasn't feasible to forfeit 15% if I returned it.

Store was out of the 18-105 so I got to test run this lens. Super sharp and aside from the size, I'm sad I had to return! On the pricey side but with the aps-c sensor the focal length is great! Will be thinking about this lens when I start looking for longer focal lengths.

If you want to travel light, or are heading into an environment that precludes changing lenses, this lens is a very useful answer. The 24-240mm gives you medium wide to long reach. Even at f6.3, the bokeh at 240mm is pleasant. I've used it on my A7ii and my a6000 with good results. On an APS camera the 240mm images like a 360mm, which is a great lightweight wildlife system.
This lens will not replace my primes or my constant f4s or f2.8s, but it has a place in my kit.

Although my initial choice was a much higher price I settled for this due to budget constraints. I'm not disappointed at all. The lens has quite a reach, build quality and sharpness that will take you by surprise. I'm pleased with the purchase and use it as a walk around lens.
Ps: I do support the lens always as it is weighty but worth its weight.

Overall, the lens is pretty good. I do have some trouble getting what I want in focus sometimes but overall, the quality seems than enough to get great prints. I haven’t seen really any CA in the photos I’ve done thus far. This is a good alternative for those wanting to do landscape to portrait/street photography that don’t feel comfortable spending a few hundred extra on a G Master.

I love my Sony - FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS SEL24240 lens. I keep this glass on my Sony Alpha 7ii ( a7ii ) most of the time. It can fit and work on my a6000 which if I am not mistaken would make it a 36- 360mm. I can capture great portraits and zoom in on distant objects even with movement because of it's OSS (optical stabilization). I would recommend this to most people shooting outdoor in daylight and maybe a different lens for indoor shorter distances with lower light conditions.
Have a Great Day,
JW~

Just returned from 3-week European vacation using this camera/lens combo most of the time and was very pleased with results. I've come to realize that with mirrorless cameras, the exposed sensor is subject to dirt and dust every time a lens is removed and every tiny speck on the sensor will show up on the image. Having a lens that stays on for most shots keeps the compartment much cleaner.

I recently purchased this lens for my A7 which I've owned since it's release. I'm an amateur photographer and I like to travel when I can. Many airlines are starting to put weight restrictions on carry-ons so that's why I bought this lens. My last trip, I brought my A7, A6000, alpha 55-200mm w/ e-mount adapter, alpha 16-50mm, kit FE 24-70, NEX 16mm pancake with fish-eye converter, alpha 50mm. Next trip, I'm downsizing! I've taken some photos and I have to say they're pretty nice. Only downside is the auto-focus, but that was to be expected. I would highly recommend this lens to those that don't want to be bogged down with numerous lenses.

As soon as I got the Sony A7Rii, I also got my first (and still only) Sony lens: 24-240. I've shot with it at Disney World, San Diego County Fair, and three model shoots so far. I'm still extremely impressed with the sharpness of this lens. Also from watching a video on YouTube I discovered that if you zoom all the way out (240mm) you can shoot semi-close ups! Yes, sort of a macro effect! I just shot some close ups of bees in action! You have to stand back about 3 feet but that's where I want to be! The bokeh is also very nice. No lens creep as the zoom is just stiff enough to stay in place. Truly worth every penny! Oh, and I shot at night in Disney World the fireworks show handheld at 1/50th a sec...(In a torrential downpour of rain) and the shots looked fantastic! This is truly the travel lens you need! (I've been using top of the line Nikon gear since 2005, but the A7Rii was too interesting to pass up!)

Purchased this lens at Best Buy for an all around use lens. What a surprise! I took this lens on a road trip and was totally impressed with its vibrant colors and IQ, and not to mention its capabilities as a wide to longish zoom. The distortion and CA are easily corrected in lightroom . I have the Zeiss 16-35f4, 35 f2.8,55 f1.8, 24-70 f4, Sony's 70-200G f4, Minolta's 80-200 f2.8 HS APO, Tamron 90 f2.8 macro, LAea3, and now this lens. It's weighty, front heavy, and the focus ring is tight to turn. But this is the first "all in one" lens that I can confidently shoot with and get some great results.

You think you're spending a lot of money on this basic Sony lens, only to discover that it's at the bottom of their lens lineup. However, if you're a hobbyist, this is a great lens. It's not a "fast" lens, so you'll need plenty of light. I found that it took great pictures and gave me plenty of flexibility in the RAW formant to tweak in Lightroom.
It's heavy, so adjust your expectation accordingly. Yet, I really think this lens is perfect for travel or the times when you can only take one lens.

I am an amateur photographer, bought this lense for its versatility and product reviews. Very pleased with the results, excellent optical zoom range for everyday photography. Ideal companion on vacation, along with 50mm f1.8 prime. If you want 10x zoom from wide angle to telephoto, with great sharp results, extra weight is not concerning.

This overall is a great lens as far as picture quality, color reproduction, sharpness etc. The focal length it covers is relatively unmatched, unless you adapt or pay bookoo bucks. I returned my particular item because I purchased it used from BestBuy at a really good price, but it ended up having several specks of dust under the first lens element. Had it been a couple hundred I would have kept it, but since it was still $700 I felt that was a lot of money for a non-perfect used lens. Maybe they took note when I returned it and either send it back to SONY to refurbish it or will re-sell it used at an even lower price.
