So I did a test, put on my 55mm 1.8 Zeiss, then put this little beauty on. Its a perfect compliment, length wise, however sharpness and color quality are near identical. Looks pretty much the same as noted as one of the best lenses out there according to DxO, the 55mm. This 28 is probably the best bang for your buck. Now I do mostly all video, the focus ring and compactness of this are exactly what I was looking for. On the picture side, its the same. Creates beautiful stills. I HIGHLY recommend this lens for any a7 series owner, hands down.

Was looking for a prime wide angle lens and decided to go with this one. Sharp pics all around. Great investment. I use it on my Sony A7ii. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time.

Very nice lens! Got a nice deal on an open box deal, it was missing the front lens cap though. This lens is compact, light and pretty sharp wide open, not Zeiss 55mm sharp but sharp enough, stop down to f2.8 it's even better. AF is pretty snappy, in low light it hunts a little, but not too bad. Color rendition is pretty good, not as contrasty as the Zeiss, but it's not bad at all. This is a great less expensive alternative to the 35mm f2.8 Zeiss, and almost as compact. For street photography, it's awesome, and even for wide portraits. I'm really enjoying this classic focal length lens. Definitely worth picking one up if you like this focal length.

I tried using my sony A7II with older MF lenses for a while. They work, but I had some shots that were out of focus. I bit the bullet and shelled out the $ for this lens. I mostly use wide angle and prefer to get up close, mostly events and festivals. I wish I’d have bought it sooner.

As the most affordable lens in the FE lineup it represents a good value. Fast at f2. Reasonably sharp. Ok build quality. This lens is relatively small and light. The only negative is that it does have a bit of a quirky distortion that can be software corrected although this does hurt image quality just a bit.

Fast and light weight. 28mm is nicely wide on a FF camera in the A7 series. Also works with the cropped sensor models such as the A6000 (although it becomes a 42mm on those cameras).

This is a really nice lens for the money. It's sharp and has great color reproduction. It's small and light and autofocus, which is silent, works very well on my Sony A5000 camera. I can only assume this lens will work even better on a full frame Sony camera.

I bought the lens for low-light landscape, cityscape and architecture photography. And for video capture in less ideal lighting conditions.
The sharpness and picture quality is great -- it is top all over the frame at f4-f8 or f11. It slightly has softer edges at f2 or f22 however that is by no means a problem from my subjective view. Vignetting and distortion is definitely existent when wide open but if shooting RAW you will anyway run a photo through an editor and it can be corrected easily. When using in-camera Sony Picture Profiles for JPG it will be mostly handled in-camera.
The value in relation to the price is very good.
This lens is an ideal travel lens because of its low weight of just approx. 200 grams.
This is a full frame lens but also works on APS-C Sony cameras like the popular a6000/a6300/a6500 cameras. Ideally the lens should be used with a camera body that offers in-camera stabilization because the lens itself has no built-in stabilization.
It is an AF autofocus lens and reacts fast (but you need to take into consideration that it depends on the camera model as well.
Altogether this is a lens well worth the investment.

For the price this 28mm is nice. I have used it with the A7rii and have been pleased. Primarily I carry this on long hikes and backpacking trips. With the right photo software this has proven to be a good lightweight combination.

I love this lens. The focal length is perfect for street photography and has a nice bokeh ( blurred background) . Not ideal for portraits but can be used depending on the situation. I really like using this lens in low light video shooting. The only problem is that the lens is not stabilized, so little shakes will show on your video. But other then that, I have had no problems with this lens.

Dollar for dollar this may be the best lens in Sony's full frame line-up. I've grown increasingly frustrated with Sony, their release-a-slightly-different-version camera every six months philosophy as well as their extremely poor QC issues with many lenses (want to know how many different 24-70 f4 samples I tried and how wildly varying the results were - none of which were satisfying and I did not purchase it in the end). On the other hand, the FE 55 1.8 lives up to its legend, and while I have yet to try it, many say the Sony 85 GM edges out the superb Batis 85. In general, the Batis, Loxia, and (for APS-C) Touit lenses overall have significantly better QC.
Point being, Sony is all over the map for me when it comes to the quality of their lenses. I'll never purchase a lens they make when first released (even if badged with the ZA designation - Sony is still responsible for 90% of that). I made that mistake with the original, cheap FE 50 1.8.
This lens however, is fantastic, and from all the positive reviews I've read, QC and sample variation is not even close to the issue it is on many other lenses. Construction is good, feels solid and yet is not heavy - balances better with an APS-C camera than a full frame actually. I don't much care for the filter threads, which make it nearly impossible to install a polarizing filter (unless you already have a UV or some other kind of filter installed).
Image quality is wonderful across the board. Focus is fast even in low light and minimum focus distance is surprisingly short, just shy of one foot.
All in all, there isn't much to complain about here. I could nitpick here and there, and I could talk about how Fuji continues to dominate with their lenses when it comes to quality and price (most of their primes are the same or near the same as this lens - one of the cheapest FE offerings, and Sony's line up comes nowhere near Fuji in across-the-board IQ). But in the end, if you have a Sony system, particularly full frame though due to the low cost and small weight/size of this lens, APS-C as well - do yourself a favor and pick one of these up.

The 28mm Sony lens is a great lens for street photography, it is light but is the perfect wide angle lens and works well in low light situations also.

I needed a fast prime for shooting landscapes at night. The kit lens was good at 28, but too slow. This fits my style of shooting and it does very well at night. The distortion is negligible, but if it's an issue you can correct it in post. Bokeh is nice wide open.

I bought this lens recently for my wife to use on a vacation with her new a6000. Having used one myself on a full frame camera, I felt it was a good first prime lens for someone just moving up in their photography for several reasons:
First on an aps-c sensor the equivalent focal length of 42mm seems just right, not too wide and not too narrow.
Second, Being as fast as f2 allows experimentation with using different apertures for desired effects and helps with low light as raising the ISO on an a6000 is worse than sacrificing some sharpness for a brighter aperture.
Finally it's size is also really easy to use on a small camera like the a6000. the fact that it has a short focus distance is also a plus.
overall I would recommend this lens for both full frame and crop sensor sony cameras.

Bought this lens as my wide lens for my a7ii. I was pretty amazed how clear it was. It can easily mistaken as a Zeiss lens due to its performance. Will buy the 21mm lens adapter for it. Great Bokeh!! Really happy with the outcome.

I bought this lens in case I found myself in a situation where a wide-angle lens was needed. This lens is sharp for the money! Good bokeh and nice colors. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a wide-angle prime lens. On a full-frame you get the full 28mm, while on a APS-C camera (with a 1.5x crop factor) you will have 42mm. On a full-frame it is reasonably good enough for vlogging, a 24mm would be better as the 28mm is a tad bit tighter, but just attached it to a gorillapod and you should be fine. The same cannot be said for the APS-C camera, you would need a wider lens as this will be way too tight of a shot for vlogging.
