Dollar for dollar this may be the best lens in Sony's full frame line-up. I've grown increasingly frustrated with Sony, their release-a-slightly-different-version camera every six months philosophy as well as their extremely poor QC issues with many lenses (want to know how many different 24-70 f4 samples I tried and how wildly varying the results were - none of which were satisfying and I did not purchase it in the end). On the other hand, the FE 55 1.8 lives up to its legend, and while I have yet to try it, many say the Sony 85 GM edges out the superb Batis 85. In general, the Batis, Loxia, and (for APS-C) Touit lenses overall have significantly better QC. Point being, Sony is all over the map for me when it comes to the quality of their lenses. I'll never purchase a lens they make when first released (even if badged with the ZA designation - Sony is still responsible for 90% of that). I made that mistake with the original, cheap FE 50 1.8. This lens however, is fantastic, and from all the positive reviews I've read, QC and sample variation is not even close to the issue it is on many other lenses. Construction is good, feels solid and yet is not heavy - balances better with an APS-C camera than a full frame actually. I don't much care for the filter threads, which make it nearly impossible to install a polarizing filter (unless you already have a UV or some other kind of filter installed). Image quality is wonderful across the board. Focus is fast even in low light and minimum focus distance is surprisingly short, just shy of one foot. All in all, there isn't much to complain about here. I could nitpick here and there, and I could talk about how Fuji continues to dominate with their lenses when it comes to quality and price (most of their primes are the same or near the same as this lens - one of the cheapest FE offerings, and Sony's line up comes nowhere near Fuji in across-the-board IQ). But in the end, if you have a Sony system, particularly full frame though due to the low cost and small weight/size of this lens, APS-C as well - do yourself a favor and pick one of these up.

Picked this up for my A6000 as my daily carry lens and the image quality blew me away for the price of this thing. Beware of CA - but it's $450 Beware of Distortion - but it's $450 Both of these issues can be fixed in post so it's not a big deal for the money. Think of this as the poor man's version of the legendary Zeiss 24/1.8 for APS-C A6000/A6300.

Fast and light weight. 28mm is nicely wide on a FF camera in the A7 series. Also works with the cropped sensor models such as the A6000 (although it becomes a 42mm on those cameras).

    Nice Prime

I needed a fast prime for shooting landscapes at night. The kit lens was good at 28, but too slow. This fits my style of shooting and it does very well at night. The distortion is negligible, but if it's an issue you can correct it in post. Bokeh is nice wide open.

Photos are always very sharp and crisp. Lightweight and versatile for the traveling photographer. I've shot a good variety of different scenes in a short amount of time. This has been a game changer. Everything just looks better through this glass.

Wanted a lens I could use in a variety of situations without having to carry multiple ones around. This seems to meet the criteria and not break the bank. Good value and the light weight was a plus. I could solely use this lens all day on a trip to Disneyland, take pics indoor and out and not have the bulk with me. Amazed at how great the photos came out too.

Great lens and picture quality highly recommend it if you can't currently afford the 35mm zeiss. Not as good as my 55mm zeiss but this lens gives great dof and is pretty sharp for the money. Just wish they did it as a 25 or lower mm. I haven't tried the converters yet, hopefully that happens soon.

I bought this lens in case I found myself in a situation where a wide-angle lens was needed. This lens is sharp for the money! Good bokeh and nice colors. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a wide-angle prime lens. On a full-frame you get the full 28mm, while on a APS-C camera (with a 1.5x crop factor) you will have 42mm. On a full-frame it is reasonably good enough for vlogging, a 24mm would be better as the 28mm is a tad bit tighter, but just attached it to a gorillapod and you should be fine. The same cannot be said for the APS-C camera, you would need a wider lens as this will be way too tight of a shot for vlogging.

Great all purpose lens. Light, easy to carry and takes great all around shots for all occasions. Love the price because I'm not trapped by thinking you gotta pay thousands to take great photos. Great lens.

I have been very impressed with this lens. It's fast. Autofocus is excellent. I use it on my Sony A6000. Great weight. Overall, its fantastic and even though it's a fixed focal length prime lens, it stays on my camera >75% of the time.

In my shooting I use a 35mm 1.4 prime 90% of the time. However, I've always felt a little wider might be nice. This lens gives me just that. It's reasonably sharp, compact, good build quality. Highly recommend.

This lens is great for the price point. Sharp even wide open! If you’re in the market for a wide angle, but don’t want to spend $1600 on a Gmaster, pick this up!

It is a wide angle lens, good for landscape photography, but it is a little bit too wide for general use, but overall, it is the best lens at $400 price range.
