For the price, this nifty fifth lens has the goods! Shot this with my Sony Alpha 1 body for a birthday party in low light and it was stellar! Can’t go wrong with this purchase!

Nice prime lens with incredible optics for the price! Recommended only for the full frame lineup, for APSC cameras it turns into an 80mm from the 1.6x crop factor, which is only useful for macro photography

Not bad for the price. it will feature some bad CA stacked against bright backgrounds at f1.8 but smooths out around f2.4. Slow and load auto focus so not good for video. Other than that great starter lens and awesome backup buy it open box for better savings.

If this lens covers the basic, I would've given it 4 stars. But there are sub-par performance that made me go to 2, even thought of 1 at some point. I use A7S, A7R (v1), and A6000. Bought it twice, thinking the first one was defective. Checked the firmware, both are on 03 (the latest as of 12/19/20). Opening the box, I like the look and feel of it, minimalist... including with the lens hood (reversible, easier to carry). The only adjustable thing on the lens is the focus ring. Powered it on, it focuses with 1-2 back/forth, not fast, but acceptable... photo quality is decent. With the Pre-AF on I discovered the continuous intermittent hunting, like it never lock onto in focus. Odd, but okay, I disabled the Pre-AF, it stopped. I use AF-C with back button to focus; here the lens exhibit the same back/forth hunting like in Pre-AF as long as I hold the AF button, even still on a subject with lines in good light. Even while at times the box turned green, it would never finalize the focus and lock on. So AF-C = not usable. I'd still be okay with this, I even don't mind running it in MF (used to it with adapted lenses). But when testing it outside today, photographing some cars and motorcycles in a clear day, around noon. It failed to focus on what it seems an easy subject car. This is the last straw for me. This Sony 50mm f/1.8 FE-mount would've been a good basic lens if it can perform the basics: focusing in both AF-S and AF-C. Slower focus is okay for this price point, but need to nail it consistently. The 'nifty fifty' price is usually priced between $200-250. If I have to limit its usefulness... ie. resort to MF, $150 would've been the more appropriate price. The 50mm F/1.8 A-mount I bought for an older SLT-A55 for $200, works better than this using the LA-EA4 adapter on my 3 cameras above. For that reason, I'm returning this lens and can't recommended it.
