Granted, you need to have the right camera to go with this lens. I use this SEL70300G with a Sony a7II and the photos are better than I could imagine. The Optical SteadyShot (OSS) feature plus the body stabilization in the a7II make for incredibly crisp, detailed shots without the need for a tripod (even when maxed at 300mm). Need to lower your shutter speed for more light? Want to shoot in 100 ISO (or less)? This camera and lens combo can get the job done. I have had several of my photos accepted by stock photography sites which are known for being strict on image detail, exposure, and overall quality. I had been waiting to get the right equipment before becoming a stock contributor and this lens does not disappoint. There's so much more positives to mention including the macro capabilities of the lens. I have great shots of dragonflies where it's just scary how crisp and detailed the eyes, wings, and even their little insect hairs are in the shots. Don't be fooled, this telephoto lens can do up-close shots as well. I've been able to keep it on longer without swapping because of the versatility. The Sony Nano AR coating also works very well. My shots have not suffered any lens flare or chromatic aberration (CA). The lens appears to stack up to the hype on Sony's website. Now, I'll stop sounding so biased and list some cons: • Price. I managed to get a coupon that I applied toward this lens. I would not play full retail. • The manual on-lens switches on the side of the lens slide very easily. You can unintentionally slide out of steadyshot or manual focus and not notice. This normally happens when putting the camera in the bag or taking it out. Not a big deal, just check the switches before shoots and occasionally as you shoot. • Size & Weight. I'm coming for a Sony a5100 with an SEL55210 so this SEL70300G is HUGE. The shots are amazing so it's worth it. • It takes a while for the zoom control to loosen up. It will be stiff at first, but will get much smoother after continued use. • Auto focus can be slow at times. I primarily use manual focus, but there are moments when AF is needed, especially with wildlife that may move unpredictably. All in all, it's a great lens and I'm more than satisfied with the purchase. It's my main shooter and I thoroughly enjoy going to my favorite nature spots to take beautiful photos. If you need reach, versatility, great detail, and quality, this is a great pick.

I've had this for a few weeks now and I am impressed. I have it on an A6500 body and while this is much larger than the camera I have no complaints as this is expected from a zoom lens with this range and capability. An F4 constant would perfect this lens but would also drive up the cost so as it stands I'm happy with the variable aperture. The optics and image quality are stellar for what you pay for this lens but be careful with low lighting situations as this lens can suffer a bit without a tripod (you'll still get the shot but don't have high hopes for the 100% crop). Sharpness seems constant and across the whole frame but to be honest i get such beautiful shots at low aperture and wonderful bokeh that i don't find myself stopping up very often much above F8. I'm very happy with the feature set of focus limiter, AF/MF override, image stabilization which works really well in tandem with the in body OIS, and the manual focus lock (although I'd prefer a toggle switch as compared to holding the button down). The AF/MF switch is very handy due to other E-mount lenses relying on switching the focus in the camera body due to being an electronic focus (this can get old even if you have have it saved as a quick button). My one complaint, and i don't know if this would be fixable anyways due to how much has to be crammed onto the lens body, is that the lens hood is so big that when its reversed over the lens body to be stored it covers the entire zoom ring when it's at 70mm (also the only time the zoom lock can be engaged). this can be very frustrating when you want to take the camera from not in use to zooming in quickly. think of hiking along and seeing an animal in the distance for example, you don't want to leave the lens zoomed out while walking but can't get at the zoom ring to zoom in. so you're left with having to find a place to stow the hood or awkwardly disconnecting the hood briefly to start the zoom and then reattaching it in storage mode. the only thing i could think of is a slightly more trim hood or a petal style which i don't think this lens would benefit from. Overall though I highly recommend this lens for a reasonably compact zoom (smaller than the 70-200 F4 lens) with great image quality and mostly easy usability.

i have an a6000 that came with two kit lenses, they both stink - i sold them on ebay. to unlock the amazing quality of the a6000 i move to two vintage manual pentax leses 50mm prime and a 35mm prime - one you get the hang of the all manual focus they take great pitures. but zoom is low and focus takes time. enter the 70-300 G. this think has great reach, fast focus, great color and is not too big. it loves taking pictures out doors, but as the spects would suggest, it is not a huge fan of indoors. that said, it is well worth the mone and the quaity of the pictures it takes is stunning. do not think twice about buying this - just buy it and enjoy the pictures you will take.

So far I have used this lens mostly on nature trails, but I've used the sports function on my camera - Sony A6000 - and it's fast, super fast. The clarity is crystal clear and it can reach way out there, which is what I need to capture my daughter playing soccer. It's a little heavy, so I can imagine using for a whole game would get tiresome on the shoulders. I would recommend a monopod if you don't already have one.

Lens is very sharp in good light, but not as good in low-light situations. I have only had the lens for about a month and have used it almost exclusively for birds and other wildlife here in South Florida. I'm very happy with the results as I had been using the 55-210 kit lens that came with my a6000. It is a bit heavier than I was used to, but not bad. Iguanas below were well out of range, but cropped ok.

Although it's taking a bit to learn the new SONY camera, this lens has allowed me to capture some amazing pics with tremendous depth and richness of color. I like nature photography so this lens allows me to get close shots while keeping my distance from the critters. I primarily use auto focus but the few times I've used the manual focus the pictures have come out well also.

Not a professional, just enjoy it as a hobby. To me, a great buy for the the money. If you read the unhappy reviews you will never buy a lens, because the reviews are focusing on finding the negative and telling you to spend more money on something else that may cost you thousands more, for almost a minimal difference, if you are a professional go ahead and spend your money. For me is a great value and I'm happy with it, thanks.

The 70-300 is a far superior lens to the 55-210 and has a price to show for it. I love the lens on my Sony a6300 and only downside I have (apart from the cost) is that the size of the lens makes the alpha series cameras front heavy and less balanced and less ergonomic than the other general consumer telephoto lenses that Sony offers. The lock switch, to keep the lens from extending incidentally, is small but an excellent addition for those that go hiking or keep the camera slung over the shoulder.

So far I have no issues with this lens. I bought the lens to compliment my SAL 70200g which is a awesome lens as well but quite a bit bigger. It is pretty quick focusing in good light but can hunt a little in low light which I expected. Its a pleasure to use. The extra 100mm is appreciated very much on my full frame A7. I plan on using it on my NEX7 as well.

Purchased the lens on Saturday and put it to use the Sunday after at the fairchild botanical garden in Miami. Very happy with my purchase. I wanted something with reach for wild life and this works perfectly mounted to my Sony a6000. Focus is fast, the only thing I would of appreciated more is if there was a collar that could be mounted to the lens.

This is a great lens. The auto focus is nice and quick. The only downside is it’s not the best in low light. However since I mainly capture images while in the outdoors during the day it’s more than sufficient for me. I would give it a full 5 stars if the low light was better. However this is what I expect to pay at this price point.

I use this lens on a A7M3. Images are very clear and I have been trying new things as the photo of the moon rising over Lake Michigan shows. I had been using an alpha 550 and it looks different because of the APS-C factor but things can be cropped and still be worth printing.

This is an awesome lens! I've gotten some pretty amazing pictures with it to include the eclipse and a full moon at night. I wasn't able to take these photos before. The only reason I did 4 stars instead of 5 is beacause it is a heavy lens and does not have a mount on the lease for a tripod. I don't use tripods very much so it works well for me but it is so heavy that I wouldn't want to try this lens on a tripod anyway since it doesn't have the tripod mount.

This Sony 70-300mm meets my expectation for its price. I can photograph wildlife, landscapes and outdoor sports. Focus fast on my A7R2 and OSS works very well. If you’re looking for something in this focal range and don’t want to put a hole in your wallet, get it. You’ll like it.

I was tossed between this lens and the 70-200 f4. After testing both in store I decided the extra reach and ability to focus in closer on objects was worth it to me. The 100-400 would be been nicer but at the cost of an additional 1000 dollars. The pictures I have taken are fairly decent. Nothing compared to the 55 1.8 in sharpness but more than acceptable for animals in a distance and the flexibility of range it has.

I bought this lens rather than the 70-200mm for that extra reach while walking in the woods. I still would like a little more than 300 mm when birding. I also bought a 24-105mm f4 G at the same time and it has better sharpness than the 70-300mm. This lens seems to pixelate a little quicker at higher iso. It is a heavy lens so if that bothers you move to something else. I would recommend with explanation!

I love this lens. So versitile that I use it as my primary lens. While I did have to replace this lens once because of a focusing issue, I am giving it a 5 star rating because I like it so much, and because Best Buy replaced my first lens with no fuss. I will continue to purchase most of my camera equipment and electronics from Best Buy because their customer service and knowledgeable staff is second to none.

I bought this to replace my 24240 Sony lens in order to gain a bit more telephoto and because the 70300 G lens had improved optics. So far it has met by expectations. I have found that under some conditions, particularly low light, it is slower to auto focus. For landscape I leave the lens set on 3m to Infinity and that helps.. It is a well made lens.

Went to a lake house for a weekend and got some amazing pics with this lens. I love the reach and the lens stabilization got rid of the camera shake from being on a boat and free floating dock. I can see why this was the most Favorited lens till the G Master 70-200 was released.
