    Excellent Sony FE lens

I selected this lens due to the fact that it is a macro lens for Sony E mount. I have done some macro work with my Canon 100mm macro lens, but Sony didn’t offer a native macro lens until this 90mm. I had a hard decision to make on deciding on whether to go with this lens or the Zeiss 85mm Batis. The macro won out, plus the Batis has suffered from a major shortage worldwide. I have used it on both my A7R and my A6000. In each case the images are nothing short of spectacular. As with any lens that is considered fast, the corners are slightly dark when wide open. This is easily corrected in post processing. The vignetting is evident at f/2.8 but begins to clear as the aperture is stepped down. The corners are relatively free of vignetting by f/4. Image sharpness is stellar. Throughout the frame at f/4 and above the sharpness really shows through. I have used this lens a couple of times for simple portraits and I have to say I am very satisfied with its performance. This is a big lens for a mirrorless system. While using this lens with a slightly bigger body such as the A7 series, the balanced is not too bad. However, when attaching to an A6000, the lens can really start to throw off the balance of the camera. Even so, the image quality is fantastic, making up for this slight disadvantage. This lens might be outside of many enthusiast budget. If you can afford this piece of glass, I would highly recommend it to anyone. It performs quite well when compared to other macro lenses in its class. This 90mm makes a very nice addition to the Sony FE lens lineup.

Dear Lord, I have been shhoting for close to 4 months, took a few classes, watched countless videos, now that I am a bit more educated I understand sharpness a bit more, I use the a7ii with the kit lens and Zeiss 55 1,8 great lens but not ideal for Macro, picked up this macro yesterday and I can't stop shooting, it has taken me to another level, I haven't even processed my pictures, they are that sharp straight out of the camera, I use the saturation feature, it was this lens or the a6300, no way my a7ii and this lens are on another level now. Thanks to all the reviews, it was hard to spend that amount of money, no buyers remorse here.

This lens is ideally suited for macro photography, though some use it as a medium telephoto portrait lens as well. The lens is superbly crafted, with excellent attention to detail, smooth focus ring, easy to navigate manual controls, and so on. It is a bit heavy, however, and therefore this lens will feel awkward on a Sony A6xxx camera (for A7R2 users, however, the lens balances nicely, especially if you are using the battery grip). Optically, the lens performs flawlessly, though as others have noted, it can hunt for focus if you rely on AF in low light conditions. The bokeh in wide apertures is pleasing and creamy, providing warmth and color contrast in your compositions. This is an excellent lens and I recommend buying from Best Buy rather than other vendors such as Amazon.

I purchased this lens as a Christmas gift to myself. I wanted a macro lens that I didn't need to get super close with. I recently took this lens with me to the Philippines and some of the macro shots I took came out awesome. The detail is really sharp. I'm glad that the lens has optical steady shot cuz it's a little on the heavy side. I used the lens on both my A6000 and A7. It's definitely worth buying if you do a lot of macro shooting. Oh, also takes pretty sharp portraits with a nice soft bokeh in the background.

I purchased this 90 mm macro lens to use with my new Sony a7iii and I am very pleased with the combined performance! The sharpness of the lens is exceptional and both the AF and MF are able to hit the sweet spot! I was surprised by the lens slide to engage the AF rather than a switch. Once I used it I actually prefer it. I have also used it for Landscape work and it does well in that environment. I do not do any portrait work so can not comment.

I love this lens a lot, it focuses on the object and zooms in and out by itself.. I am not a professional photographer, but an amateur who is willing to pay the price for a quality item and this goes nicely on my sony nex7 to do macro photography for makeup and other objects. You may see photos on my website which is the same name as my nickname. I recommend this lens to anyone who is passionate about photography and has a sony!

Unbelievable pics with this lens. Not exactly for a brand new photographer - should be comfortable with the different settings and functions of your camera. Really superior photos (close up/micro/macro & portait) especially once you get the hang of it. Not great for everyday point and shot but that's not what it's meant for. Auto focus haunts is slow. Found myself getting better pics in manual mode. It has some weight too and does get heavy in the hand. Perfect for tripod use or prob wanna get grip extender (battery grip) for camera. One of the few lenses that is worth it's price. Might be best bang for the buck especially if was a little lighter.

I read a lot about this lens before purchasing. It was well worth it! This lens is crazy sharp! Some reviewers mentioned that the bokeh was not great, but I disagree. It's very creamy and smooth. As a macro lens at 90mm 2.8, it's good for portraits as well. I like the push/pull feature for manual or auto use, very convenient. It feels solid in the hands & secure. The distance scale is nice but I don't use it. The lens hood.makes this lens seem larger than it really is. The colors are stunning and contrasty. It's just the best macro lens I purchased so far. Sony did a superb job here.

If you don't have this already, you must buy this lens. This lens combine with my sony a6300, you get a solid medium telephoto lens that I use to shoot sports and wildlife since this can be cropped in and images will still be tack sharp. It can also be use for portraits and obviously macro and real tight close up shots. Also, for video work, this lens has OSS so it reduces camera shake. I highly recommend this to anyone that need a very versatile lens!!!

I recently purchased the lens this weekend and I'm extremely blown away! My wife and I went on a four park tour at Disney World and the pics I took is unbelievably stunning! A lot of the pics literally looks like I photo shopped the images on the background. The one problem I had was the lens hunted sometimes. Hopefully Sony fixes that with an update. I have an a7 now, saving up for the ar II. I'm not an professional, but I'm very pleased with this lens. You won't regret getting it!!!

Sharpest lens I've owned thus far. First copy I purchased was bad, the focus motor made a fairly loud noise which was not normal. I received a replacement and the lens is amazing. Not the quietest lens but it isn't an issue with the macro work I've done which is the purpose of the lens. Does amazingly well shooting portraits as well. I didn't feel this lens was heavy, rather extremely light. If you are looking for a native e-mount macro lens this is your lens without doubt.

This lens right here... Man this is the best macro lens I have ever used. It takes absolutely breathtaking photos of small subjects. Beautiful bokeh, great colors. Auto focus is great, lens stabilization is perfect. It's so quiet for video recording. It has a great weight, and feel to it, it doesn't feel cheap. It's great for product photography, because the resolution is amazing. Photos are so sharp, ordinary printers can't produce the amount of fine detail the lens produces. Sony nailed it with this lens #creamofthecrop #machomanrs

This lens is awesome for macro or portraits. If it made for use with a full frame body like the a7 series, but I am using it with an a6300 and I am still happy with the performance of it. Compared to the 30mm macro lens that is around 1/3 the cost, I think the price justifies the performance if you can afford it.

I have the Sony, 36 MP A7r and low light,12 MP A7s and this is a superb macro lens for both of them. It is also a nice portrait lens af f 2.8.. The Optical Stabilization is good for 3 shutter speeds better than usual, For example, a hand held shot would be reasonably sharp at 1/120 sec but with OS, decent shots for 8x10s could be taken at 1/15 sec. However a tripod would be even sharper and then the OS would need to be turned off. As a video lens, the OS helps on a Steadicam, Fig Rig and even on panning and dolly shots.

I got myself a sony a7r 3 with a 24-105 lens, i was debating on getting this and when i got it i was like is this really worth it? I started taking products shoots with it and i started to kind of regret it but once i compared it to my 24-105 lens the shots i was mind blown on how much better it is and how sharp it is. Overall all my products come out beautiful. THis is a must have, pick one up!

This lens is fantastic! Images come out smooth and lovely! The autofocus is fast and is sharp! The only downside is that the autofocus vs manual focus can be switched on and off with a slip of your hand. The first time it happened, it took me a second to figure out where the switch was. Other than this I love love love this lens!

I bought this lens because I could use it for more than just "macro" shots. I've used this lens from macro shots to portraits to wildlife shots, all with great sharpness. I have this FE lens paired with my Sony A6300 so effectively I get about 135mm out of it. Since this lens has OSS (Optical Steady Shot), I shoot with a lot of confidence. A surprising "feature", since the images are so sharp, cropping my pictures still look good! Check out #sel90m28g on Instagram for samples (@fotosxfrank)

Love being able to switch from auto to manual by moving the focus ring forward and back. Manual is so key when you have a Sony camera like my a7ii that gives you the focus assist. Pinpoint your focus so easy... if your subject is still ;) Defiantly worth the money and competes with the Canon and Nikon top macro lenses!

Edge to edge sharp and crisp photos. I am very please with the photos. The lens also works great as portrait lens. I have posted two examples I took while I went hiking on the Robe Canyon Historic Trail. I did not find this lens is not too heavy or large for hiking.

Love this Lens! I use it on the a6000 so it acts like a 135mm focal length. This lens is very sharp. The auto focus can be a little slow when it is hunting through the full range, but it does have the focus range selector switch to speed it up. Very happy with the over all performance.
