Sony knows how to make great electronics, and this camera is no exception. There is an amazing amount of technology put into this and yet it's all nicely bundled in a small easy to use package. The basic features are nice and intuitive, and it was simple to get it set up and to start taking videos. I didn't expect it, but it also take pretty decent photographs as well. And in certain modes, it can take photo's while also recording video which is a pretty neat feature. I like the Wifi connectivity a lot. Once I got it set up with the free software that Sony provides, I was able to control the camera with my smart phone, and I was able to import the pictures and videos to my PC wirelessly. The free software is full featured and has many useful features that I look forward to learning. Included is a photo and video editing program, as well as cloud storage, and sharing software etc... The camera itself has a plethora of adjustments and settings to dial everything in exactly how you want. I was pretty ok with how it came set up right out of the box however. I took video indoors, and outside, in the gloom, and in bright sunlight, and the recorded video looked amazing. I'm sure someone who knows how to dial in a camera for each type of lighting and condition would love the extra included adjustability though. I also like that the camera is set up to be improved and expanded upon. There are mounts for attaching a tripod, flash, microphone, and larger batteries can also be purchased for greater run time. The included battery is good for 2 hours of recording at max resolution in dual recording mode at the top frame rate, so no worries about the camera shutting off right in the middle of something important. And if you need it to record a little longer, you can switch off dual recording, or reduce the frame rats slightly. Or just keep everything maxed out and buy another battery. It can even be plugged into the charger cable or USB cable if needed and record, but it won't charge the battery if it's recording while plugged in. Also the included charger will charge the battery in about 3 hours, but charging via USB will take 5 hours or a little more. Overall I like it, and it works well. If I had to say anything negative about it I would mention the battery just kinda hangs off the back of the camera like an afterthought... the rest of the camera is nice and sleek, and then just a random square gets snapped onto the back. I would have liked it better if the photo and zoom buttons were rotated towards the side a little, they're kind of awkward and just a little bit out of reach if I hold the camera the way it fits best in my hand naturally. If I change the way I hold it and basically just trust the strap around my hand to keep it in place, then the buttons are fine where they are, but I still think they would feel more ergonomic if they were rotated to the side slightly. Speaking of the photo and focus buttons though, both of them are great and very touch sensitive. The focus is very fluid, and very responsive with a great analog response. The only other thing that I could say I'm not to fond of is the overwhelming at first amount of settings, menus, websights, programs, EULA's, downloads, permissions, etc... that all need to be installed and set up to get everything up and running. There are way more features and settings than I will ever need, and it would've been nice if all of those were in an advanced tab setting and just the basic camera features were on the main menu. There are nice things to be said about keeping it simple. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants to take great videos, as long as you're not doing it in the rain or underwater, as this camera isn't waterproof. But other than that, it's got everything you might need.

The Sony Handycam AX43 is a good camcorder, that offers really good quality 4k videos. The first thing I noticed about this camera, is the extremely large battery that extends out of the back of the device. I’m not sure why Sony chose to design the camera this way, it makes it look very awkward. The camera does have a little bit of weight to it, and after recording for about 30 minutes I noticed the hand strap was starting to hurt my hand. This can be easily fixed by attaching a grip, or by adjusting the Velcro strap. Setting up the AX43 is pretty simple for the most part, and it does a good job of walking you through the startup menu trough the LCD touch screen. You will need a memory card in order to record anything or take pictures, as this model has no internal storage. Once you’re ready to record, there are several modes and scenes to choose from. The standard movie mode is the preferred mode to shoot in 4K. There is also Time lapse mode, this mode is a nice way of shooting a great time lapse video in 4k and works well. The camera also has a feature called Duel video record mode. This feature records 2 versions at once, both a 4k version and lower quality version so you can easily edit it on your camera. The camera offers a large number of scenes to choose from such as snow, fireworks, indoor etc. I found that setting the scene to auto does a good job at automatically changing the environment for which you’re filming. A very useful feature that the camera offers are fast buttons. The fast buttons act like shortcuts, and lets you set 3 different options to the screen as you’re recording. For example, the one I like to set is low lux, this brightens the backlight of the camera so you can shoot in dark spaces better. The fast buttons save you a lot of time from having to go through the menu and find the option you want, to turn it on. While the camera does have auto focus built in, you can tap the screen on a certain object, and it will then lock on to that object. This feature is called spot focus and becomes very useful. Perhaps the best feature of this camera is the built-in Gimbal mechanism, this eliminates camera shake no matter how fast you’re moving around. I tried this out a few different ways and I was pleasantly surprised at how well this works. The camera has a Zeiss 20x optical zoom lens which is the highlight of the camera. It takes beautiful looking videos at 4k and takes great still pictures as well. The camera does have the ability to record slow motion, but you can only record slow motion at 1080p, and with no sound. The camera does have an impressive built-in mic, that can record up to 5.1ch surround sound. Sadly, this feature is not available in 4k. The only sound mode you can record in 4k is 2.0 stereo sound. The zoom mic feature works well when you zoom in on a distant shot and zooms the audio in, so it makes it sound like you’re right next to it. There are also other great features like wind noise reduction, and my voice canceling which reduces the voice of the person recording. The camera does have built-in Wi-Fi as well as an NFC reader. The Wi-Fi lets you send pictures and videos to your computer or mobile device wirelessly, with the required software. The computer software is called Playmemories Home, this lets you transfer pictures and videos either wirelessly or with the supplied USB cable. Keep in mind wireless transfer won’t work with 4k movies. Which is another feature to dual record mode, it sends the lower quality versions wirelessly. Also, keep in mind that if you’re using a Mac, the software will no longer be updated anymore. And if you’re running a mac with MacOS 10.15 or higher, you can’t use the software at all. The NFC reader works with mobile devices and can let you use your phone or tablet as a remote, or wirelessly transfer videos and pictures. This requires the app called ImagingEdge Mobile and works on both Android and iPhone. Overall, The Sony AX43 is a good camcorder with plenty of features. The stable shot shooting will impress anyone, and the image quality of 4k movies are breathtaking. My biggest complaint would be, the lack of support on the software for Macs, along with the battery sticking way out of the back. Otherwise, this is a fantastic camera, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new camcorder.

It's a Sony so let me get the basics out of the way. Video recording quality, especially the 4K and 100fps recording - CHECK Sound recording and the way the sound isolates audio of the video subject - CHECK Functionality with the flip screen, friendliness of the menu, responsiveness to touch - CHECK Size, egonomics and weight - CHECK It's a vloggers dream video camera. But you know what the real test is? I had our 5 year old take videos and play with it. The result: The stability is phenomenal. We're talking about a 5 year old running around and taking videos here. She would run, change subject and focus-- the stability is impressive. Autofocus is great too. She made this video talking about her barbie and pretending she's having tea with her. Once she puts the barbie on the foreground, the focus adjusts. Also, I am not sure what setting it was, but she had a video where she was talking while playing, and the focus remained on the set foreground even though her sister kept walking in front of her. So focusing is effective whther it is fixed or avoiding blurry subjects. The audio, to mention, is top notch. The TV in her room was loud. But as she was discussing the details of her tea time, her voice is clear with the background still audible and not upstaging her sound. The sound zooms in n the subject too and that is huge for me. There is so much to say about this camera, and it suits the most "disorganized" videographer. What more if you're a hobbyist or a pro? Goodjob Sony. I am more than satisfied.

The video quality is great and I love this camcorder. There are a few things that I wished it was able to do. Those reasons are why I give it a 4 star. I will say those things first, that way if you are wanting a camcorder with those futures, you know to look at other camcorders. I would love to see a way to use the camcorder live. I would like to be able to plug the camcorder into a pc and use the camcorder as a webcam basically. So far the only way I have seen this is if you buy a video capture card. Not sure why I cant just plug it in via the usb cable and use it. Allowing that would be great. Another future would have been nice, is night vision/night mode. The mic, its loud and clear and picks up everything. This was also true when I I selected to mute the person holding the camcorder. That seemed to tone done the volume but for everything and my voice was still picked up. But I also was in a smaller area. I would have also loved a case for it provided. Those are the only things I can think about as for negatives. not all are reasons for a 4 star. But for me combined together do. Things I love. The quality of the video is great. When I downloaded the videos off the camera onto my pc, it broke each video into 2 videos. One regular video and one 4k version. Sound is clear and loud. I love that it auto stabilizes. I was able to record all around as well as myself and not have it shaky. It also has a stabilizer diagram that shows you what is going on. It has a HDMI out so you can also plug into a TV/projector etc. that has a HDMI in, and playback pictures and videos. Has a mount on top that you can connect a better mic I believe into it. There is a lot more you can do as well as use software (playmemories) that you can do a lot more with. I have not owned a camcorder, have always used a phone, camera etc. so this was nice to get and have. its small, compact, light and easy to use. It also fits into my tripod. If those negatives dont bother you that much, then I recommend this camcorder if you are looking for one.

We have several family members with weddings coming up this year so we thought the Sony AX43 camcorder would come in handy to record these great memories. The Sony build quality still rates highly; and this model is comfortable to handle and fairly compact for using over an extended period of time. This is certainly a step up from the camcorders of yesterday. The image quality shows given the CMOS sensor which provides high resolution 4K recordings with a 16:9 aspect ratio. We found the intelligent autofocus to work well and had no issues with even moving objects staying in focus. Audio provides nice sound with options provided by microphone and headphone jacks. The stability features built into the AX43 are pretty remarkable. Steadyshot features a stabilizer with gimbal mechanism to ensure smooth video even under use of zoom or camera movement. The clarity and video stabilization is really impressive from a compact, easy to use system. One can also use the built-in Highlight Movie Maker which will choose key moments and assemble them into short movies with no need for post-production editing. Selfie-shooting is enhanced with the one-hand operation grip style, flip screen, full touch operational screen, fast AF for clear focus on your face, wide ange fo 26.88mm and zooming operation with a grip. Indoors vlogging is aided by remote control via smart phone with Imaging Edge Mobile. Some may want to consider the step up to the AX53 which supports livestreaming and has a built-in viewfinder. You’ll enjoy this camcorder for great 4K video quality, awesome image stabilization and great battery life.

I bought this product 6 months ago. Has went into SONY's repair shop 4 months after purchase for a C:32:60 error and got it back a 1 -1/2 weeks ago and broke again. Background on use. This camera sits on a tripod and never moves. it is stationary for use. This is a bad camera. Sony's Customer service is terrible would not Recommend this to anyone.

I'm really impressed with the quality of this video camera. It is easy to charge, easy to take videos with, and then easy to watch your videos on a screen or save the videos. The battery quality is great and I would say this makes for a great beginner handy camera. It is a great camera for most uses unless you have specific features that it does not have. I would recommend this camera for all families.
