Excellent quality for a $600 soundbar!

I bought the sound bar for almost 50% off of it's original price of $1000. I think it's a great deal. But, I wouldn't recommend this if you were buying it for full price. I don't think it is that much of an upgrade on my Sony A80L TV speakers.

Surprised it is angled slightly downward but does make sense to project sound. Improvement over Samsung bar we had.

Better than Sonos

But when I looked at the specs, Sony delivers better soundbars. More speakers and channels than a Sonos soundbar and it has 4K pass through, which Sonos doesn’t have. This lets me reduce the amount of connections I need to add to my tv. And the sound quality, super clean. This soundbar fires sound up as well, which creates this immersive sound field like if I had speakers behind me.

Pretty great soundbar

Do you have to turn on settings that should probably be active by default, like the sound field and voice clarity and bass volume? Yeah, but that's fine. The sound quality is great and really helps create an enveloping atmosphere in a living room where true surround speakers aren't an option. The two small integrated subwoofers are a big step up from not having a sub at all, and while they don't compare to a dedicated sub, they also don't take up any additional space. The digital interface is clear, there's no guessing about what input you're on or what settings your changing.

Great Sound but issue w/center speaker mode

I would have given 5 stars but I’m not satisfied with the static noise when I use the center speaker mode with my Sony X90K TV. This center speaker feature is promoted by Sony yet the static noise/hissing seems to be a known problem reported by others on Reddit and other AV sites. Instead of using the tv speakers, I keep HT-A5000 voice mode “on” at all times to help enhance voice loudness and it still sounds pretty good. Overall pretty happy with it otherwise.

Decent sound bar

Given that the sound is coming from the front, it does a good job with spacialization of the sound/simulated surround. It can also utilize wireless surrounds for a better enough experience that I would recommend adding them. With the surrounds, it's still not as good as a true surround system and the cost starts to come close. Ultimately, we went with the true surround system.

Great sound but…

I do have a lot of connectivity issues. I pair this with a Sonny Bravia tv. And time to time the tv does not recognize the sound bar and there is no sound. Im not able to find a solution to solve this.

Amazing Soundbar! It's like I have my own theater!

I was originally not going to spend this much, but I am glad I did. I also purchased the optional rear speakers and sub-woofer. This is paired with a LG CX. I have my own theater now! Other than wanting Sony level quality, I went with the HTA5000 for three major reasons. I wanted Dolby Atmos. I like the ability to expand the sound bar with the optional speakers and sub-woofer. Finally, I wanted the multiple HDMI 2.1 ports. I ran out of HDMI ports on my TV, but this sound bar allows me to hook up my PS5 to the bar and still get the benefits of HDMI 2.1 for my PS5.

Surprisingly Excellent

This soundbar does an excellent job on its own of filling the room with sound. The night and voice-only features really help for watching action shows and movies that poorly balance loud effect sounds with the speaker or narrator (do you find yourself increasing and decreasing your volume? This fixes that) I intend to add the bass and surround speakers, but even without, I am surprisingly satisfied with this product.

A Must Have for Acoustic Center Sync

That said, highly recommend pairing it with some rear satellite speakers for a truly immersive experience. We chose this one to pair with our A80J Bravia TV to utilized the acoustic center sync capability -- otherwise we may have gone with another, less expensive, option.
