However, I have my soundbar sitting in front of the TV screen on an AV console. The shiny black plastic on the top of the soundbar reflects the TV image which is distracting.

Purchasing the optional subwoofer or rears accessories (SA-SW5,SA-SW3,SA-RS3S) is definitely a great addition if you want to expand your audio system for an immersive audio experience.
To ensure that you will be getting the most out of the HT-A7000, toggle on the "Immersive AE" remote button to upscale the entire audio system's performance. Additionally, make sure to run Sound Field Optimization so that the soundbar can calibrate its performance to your environment, and that it sounds like it was engineered to be in your room. I had the Sonos Arc on my mind, but when compared in store to the Sony, I was blow away at the difference. This also made much more since with the Sony Bravia TV I had purchased earlier this year. Liked The idea of using the tv speakers to help center and helped, but disappointed overall with the lack of sound adjustment. I had the surround speakers and the sw5 subwoofer. The subwoofer has the Capability to put out good bass but not at the right frequency for my taste. I felt like the voices were muffled with certain content, especially playing purchased movies on google play movies app. When you increase the bass all the way to get the deep bass rumble in action packed movies, it also adds the bass to the voices and other sounds and was very annoying. I could not hear voices good, even after playing with all adjustments and calibrations, for the 15 day return period. The demo sounded amazing, yet when I would play a surround test off YouTube app, some of the sounds didn’t get output to any of the speakers. It played fine on the tv speakers, so the audio was there, but it’s almost like the sound bar stripped out audio. Even the sound presets they have do not make a big enough difference in sound distinguish. I probably would of kept the setup if there was an equalizer like the tv has, so I can adjust it so the higher frequency vocals and sounds are more crisp and less bass, and make the lower frequency sounds get more bass. Also I do not like the fabric on the top and sides of the a7000 sound bar. I preferred the ht-a5000 design better. But the a7000 had better left and right front surround, and a little better treble. I would never recommend this to someone if they are not connecting it to a tv with the s-center sync feature, because the sound would be even more muffled. I really wanted to like it, but due to Sonys lack of adjustments, I had to return it all and will be unfortunately looking at another brand.

We are sorry to hear that the HTA7000 did not meet your expectations and had to return the unit. Depending on the input signal and the sound mode setting, surround sound processing may not work effectively. For this, we recommend using the Sound Field Optimization feature. This will measure the position of each speaker and optimizes the sound to your room.

Without the additional speakers it sounded ok, which is not great considering the price for just the standalone soundbar and why I am giving 4 stars for value.

To appreciate the capabilities of the system go to YouTube TV and play the Dolby 7.1.2 demo. The sound does surround you and bounces off the ceiling. The voice option really enhances the dialog of regular programming making it easier to hear through the S Center channel of the TV.

The description for excellent condition open box indicates that it includes all items or substitutes. The store staff indicated that it only refers to the soundbar itself? Quite misleading when you read what is supposed to be included by best buys own standards. The item itself seems fine. This is more a policy review.

If you have a small apartment or living room, it is a must buy! It is not super loud, but has better clairity and soundstage. Do get the larger sub (SASW5)and the surround speakers (SA-RS5) as they sound amazing together.
