The sound from this has come a long way since I last paid any attention to soundbars. I am very pleased with this purchase. Went with the 300W sub and rear satellites as well, and setup was clear and easy too.

Amazing Sound - If Setup Correctly

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.After having the Sony HT-A7000 soundbar with the optional subwoofer and rear speakers for about 3 weeks now, I can honestly say that I have never felt so immersed in my movies and games as much as I do now that I own this system. That being said, I have never experienced a home surround system and have no comparison in that regard; but, I do feel that I got my money's worth from this setup. But, that is only if you have a TV and appropriate content that supports high quality audio codecs such as DTS:X or Dolby Atmos. Otherwise, you won't be getting the best from this system. When watching normal TV, the system will attempt to give you a surround feel with the "Immersive AE" feature but it can only do so much. So, if you are just planning on watching normal TV and not premium content (I have a 4k blu-ray player), then I would say it is not worth the money; however, if you are as much of a film geek as I am then I would highly recommend this option. As for the negatives, I will say that the wireless connection between the subwoofer and rear speakers appears to be VERY sensitive to external influences such as routers (which some sensitivity is to be expected). I had to reorgranize my entertainment center to move the router farther from the soundbar, hardwire the TV, hardwire the blu-ray player, and hardwire my PS5 to get the best results. Still some popping would occur in the rear speakers/subwoofer occasionally; but, this was fixed after I upgraded my HDMI cables to AudioQuest cables to protect against noise and interference. In short, I would highly recommend this system to anyone interested in experiencing immersive sound through Dolby Atmos and DTS:X through gaming or high quality 4K content. But, don't plan on it making regular TV sound amazing and be prepared to move some things around and readjust if you are having connectivity issues as I did.

WAY BETTER than the HTST 5000

This sound bar IS better to answer everyone’s question. I have a different Sony sound bar in every one of my rooms. You can hear the voice much more clear on this unit vs the ht5000 which was lacking in that department. The add on sub hits just as hard but looks much nicer - and the rear speakers are great as well. The overall sound clarity is much improved and is well worth the upgrade - this set up is just as good if not better than most full surround set ups. Unless of course you are spending a ton of cash even so the savings and simplicity of this vs a full system well make this sound bar worth it

Went through 3 other bars(q950a,Sonos arc and klipsch 1200) and this bar was ahead by a lot! The only downside is that it is a build your own as you don’t get rear speakers or subwoofer, but if price is not an issue,you won’t be disappointed.I highly recommend you get the sw3 sub for smaller rooms and sw5 for bigger rooms if you want the best system. You can build over time. Sony recently added sa-rs5 rear speakers that resemble the speakers used in their hta9 system but slightly smaller! These make a killer system that rivals the traditional systems with a receiver and speakers but without those pesky wires! Make sure you try streaming apps and uhd blue ray players to see how good it can sound! Awesome job Sony

Watching movies listening to music is now whole new world in my house and with my new Sony A 80 J Oled TV it's a beautiful experience. The S center channel is excellent and with Dolby Atmos and DTS-X your listening experience is at a new level watching sports is something to behold!! I took my time did a lot of reading and listening but in the end made my move with the HT A 7000 believe me you'll be glad you did if you follow my lead!!

No it can’t replace the big speakers obviously but when watching movies it is incredible got the 200 W subwoofer that went with it, and all the movies we watch so far has been mind blowing. Found this open box and it was double what I was originally going to spend but I was getting four times the system

The size is larger in width than I calculated which means for me with the Sony kd55A8 TV I will be mounting the TV to the wall instead of it resting on its legs as the soundbar is wider than the TV, this is not a problem as the soundbar thoroughly deserves it rightful place at where it can work to its best. And its best is Awesome. Combined with an easy pair to the wireless Sony Bluetooth speakers it really does make you feel excited about which film/program/game I'm going to watch or play.

Amazing Sound System -- A little overpriced

The cost alone shows the build quality, functions and sound abilities. HOWEVER, when pairing with the Sub, at retail price, this is almost $2k --- My 8 year old Bose Cinemate, while it doesn't have Atmos, 7 channels or anywhere near the amount of functionability, it actually sounded "better" What I mean, the Sony (and all sony's for that matter) have a very "tin / hollow" voice. Just lacking depth in all dialogue. The integration with next gen Sony TV is pretty sweet!

A bit pricy but wirth it

I have a siny TV and the integration is amazing too bad it does not have a lan and ony 2 HDMI inputs but the connection to the rear speakers and sub never dropped so i can live with that.

Great premium sound bar

If you are spending ~$1,400 on a sound bar you should spend the extra ~$800 for the sub and rears (I have no experience with just the sound bar). I watched Sicario in Atmos at 50% volume and was blown away. No buyers remorse. Only complaint is that it is hard to tell what Dolby codec is being used when not Atmos. If you don’t want to deal with setting up a AV system like me and don’t mind spending ~$2,300, you won’t be disappointed.

Good for voices

Most sound bars I can't hear the voices very well but I can with this one. I used to really get into tweaking all the settings to get everything just right but I don't have the time or patience for that anymore. With this I was able to plug it in and it made a few adjustments and it has worked well from there. I have it paired with a sony tv and I use it with an apple tv, and the way it powers up is a little odd and I haven't figured out if it's the way I set it up or if it's just kind of wonky. But it doesn't bother me enough to keep screwing with it. I would definitely recommend it.

Good build quality. Good all around sound. I also added the Bass and rear Speakers. Bestbuy did not have the Speakers when i bought the Soundbar and Bass so i got the speakers from another vendor. Over all i am happy with the system. Only regret is Sony came out with the SA-RS5 6 months later rear speakers with up firing speaker. I feel like i got screw. Why they did not give us a choice with speakers as they did with the Bass which was 200w or 300w. I went with the 300w.

Great soundbar, unclear documentation

If you choose to wall mount it, the documentation is very unclear on how to do it. Mounting brackets are provided but wall screws are not. The brackets are not spaced to my studs so I needed drywall anchors. The unit is too heavy to support on screws alone.

Awesome Soundbar!

I replaced the Sonos Arc w/ 1s. I recently also switched all my smart speakers to HomePods and felt I could do better than the aging Sonos Arc for my needs. I love this new Sony system and exceeds my expectations. I hooked my Apple TV 4K directly into the soundbar. Watching movies in Atmos is fun. Listening to Apple Music is great. If you get the rears, I recommend having them at ear height. I use one of those 34” floor stands. If they’re not ear height then they can be a little hard to hear. One of the reasons I love this new system is there is no 1-4 second audio cut out when switching from stereo to Atmos. That annoyed me on Sonos. Now listening to Apple Music has no weird cut outs in the beginning. Some of the YouTubers knock this bar but I don’t get it. So don’t trust their reviews because last year they were saying it’s great. Not every system is going to make everyone happy. I tried the Q990c and didn’t love it. Every YouTuber says it’s the best but none of them have it (red flag) Something felt off and I realized it would play older shows in the rears in stereo. For me this was distracting and for others they may like it. The Sony just has better quality IMO compared to Samsung and Sonos. Anyways, that’s my cheap 2 cents.
