The staff who had handled the situation starting from the seller up to the customer service was impeccable. The one who blew up and makes the experience worse were the shipper whom Best Buy had entrusted the shipment was horrible. AI customer service were you cannot even speak with live person and the fact was that the shipment was lost for the past 3 weeks. Never ever trust “On-Trac” shipping company. Result: Poor customer service and shipment lost.

This soundbar has performed very well for me and I have been very happy with not only its performance but also the ability to completely customize the experience for your home and really calibrate it to your exact needs. I've had a chance to use this with movies, tv shows, and the news. Where it really shines and where I really noticed a big difference is when watching action sequences throughout movies. I noticed that if you are really interested in achieving the best possible experience and sound, then you will want to add the subwoofer to this soundbar. But if you just want to upgrade those speakers that come on your tv, this is perfect and will exceed your expectations. I do like that this has the ability to add on additional equipment as you want to or as our budget allows, I just wish the price point was a tad lower since you're not getting the full experience without that addition of a subwoofer, etc. Setting up and connecting using the eARC and the Sony app made setup truly simple and seamless. it was literally up and running in just a few minutes.

    Premium Sound, but Lacking Features

Soundbars are probably my favorite way of getting quality audio from my TVs without complex wiring setups. I tend to be picky with my audio setups - I'm not an audiophile, but I know the difference between having a clear sound stage and having a muddy mess for my audio output. That being said, I can say with certainty that Sony has done a wonderful job of putting premium sound into this 3.1 channel soundbar. It's truly impressive and shows how much sound bars have improved over the years. Before getting further into this review - If you buy the HT-S2000, Please make sure that you download Sony's Home Entertainment Connect app on your smartphone. There are additional settings in the app that you will not find on your remote, and you'll want the ability to fine tune your audio! I've been using a competitor's solution for about 4 years - a 2.1 channel soundbar with a wireless subwoofer. And, since I own a Sony Bravia XR 4K TV, I was curious to test how well it integrates with the TV. I've never had a complaint about my old soundbar's clarity or bass levels, but it doesn't support some of the newer audio codecs found in today's media (such as Dolby Atmos or DTX audio). So with these things in mind, I moved onto the HT-S2000, and I have to say... I am pleasantly surprised by how well the HT-S2000 performed. Not only did I not need the soundbar remote due to its direct integration with Sony's Bravia quick settings menu, but the sound was superb. I was watching the cinematic finale of Star Trek Picard, and I was blown away by how well the bass performs! Even without purchasing the optional subwoofer or rear speakers, the sound is crisp, clear, natural, and even booming at higher volume levels. I didn't expect such bass from such a small and size-constrained soundbar, so it was a big surprise for me. If you have the opportunity, I urge you to test out Sony's new soundbars at your local Best Buy to experience what I'm talking about here. A few notes that I want to share about soundbar settings - If you enjoy bass like I do, you'll likely want to change your bass setting to "MAX". You can choose between MIN, MID, and MAX - MIN is pretty much no bass, MID is slightly timid bass, and MAX brings the sound. Whenever you have the opportunity, definitely enable the Sound Field feature. Sony's "S-FORCE PRO Front Surround" feature is actually amazing. It takes your sound stage from standard stereo to a fully featured surround sound experience and it sounds wonderful. Sony's audio mixing reputation really shines in this feature. Also, if you're like me and constantly have different sound needs based on what you're watching or your environment, you'll love these 2 features - Voice mode and Night mode. Voice mode ups the output of vocal frequencies for those "Why are they whispering??" moments we've all experienced in movies and TV. Then there's the Night mode - In my opinion, this dulls the dynamic sound stage features of the soundbar to give a more "10pm appropriate" audio experience. I won't use that feature all the time, but it's there when you need it. Finally, in the Sony Home Entertainment Connect app, you can enable "DSEE", which enhances sound quality by restoring high-range sound. There's also an "Automatically adjust volume" setting for those movies that go dynamically change from explosion scenes to whisper quiet conversations. So, with all of that said, why am I giving this 4 stars? Well - In 2023, I think most people would prefer to have a soundbar that also connects to your wifi network and gives you additional smart features. When you're paying a premium for premium sound, I'd think most folks want the ability for anyone in the house to open their favorite music streaming app, select the soundbar from their smart devices, and enjoy some music or a nice podcast. That just isn't possible with Bluetooth-only wireless connectivity, and I think the HT-S2000 deserved wifi connectivity.

The Sony Soundbar S2000 is not my first experience with Sony home theater equipment. I also own the Sony HT-A1 system with the SA-SW5 subwoofer. That system has been a truly great experience for me for surround sound and music. So I was excited to get my hands on the S2000. The soundbar is small in size, so I didn't know what to expect. Looking at the exterior, I noticed that the controls on it are touch sensitive, not buttons, and that there are three banks of speakers behind the grill, which I appreciate being that Sony calls this a 3.1 system. That's a dedicated center channel as opposed to two side channels simulating a center channel. Great. I also noticed to air ports on the ends, which to me meant that the soundbar would attempt to deliver on the low frequencies on its own without a dedicated sub. Cool. I also read in the instructions that you can add Sony's surround speakers and one of its subs to this system to make it a true 5.1 system. Flexibility is a good thing. The remote it comes with is small but has all the function I need. I plugged in the soundbar and it asked me to download the dedicated app to my mobile phone. I proceeded to do that and it helped me set it up. Very easy and straightforward. This is where you can update the software, adjust bass and treble, turn on Sony's proprietary sound functions for different effects, and register the soundbar. I proceeded to run it through various sources. Immediately I noticed a very respectable low frequency output. It actually has bass! It's not a sub, but it's pretty amazing how much low end this soundbar has. I also noticed with movie and streaming that the center channel is very effective in separating dialog from sound effects and music. The quality I have with the HT-A1 is definitely here. Not all encompassing but impressive. Then I tried a music source. I played music from Apple Music through my Apple TV and to the soundbar by eARC. The music showed in the app that it was streaming at 48kHz, which to me was as high as I can make it. I was blown away with the music reproduction. The fidelity was really great, the stereo channels had plenty of separation, I had no problem making out various instruments and voices were crisp but not overly so. I really enjoyed this soundbar with music. Way more than with movies actually. Overall, I would consider this soundbar to be a great do-it-all, particularly for small spaces, and would even do a great job as a "stereo" on a shelf somewhere. It has bluetooth also so you are able to stream directly from a device as well. I would recommend this soundbar to anyone looking for either a small home theater or a music player.

I was looking for an all-in-one solution to having speakers all over the place and still get great sound. The Sony HT-S2000 almost covered all the bases. It's quite small compared to my current bar, so it doesn't block the remote receiver on the TV. Sony manages to pack 5 speakers in this little bar, 2 of which are subs. So you get a center channel, 2 front channel (left, right) and 2 subwoofers with side tubes. Strangely, I was expecting up-firing speakers for the Atmos feature only to find none. It manages without them quite nicely though. Basic and easy setup, plug in and connect e-Arc HDMI, done. Remote is quite basic with few adjustments, no eq settings available. Granted, I never managed to successfully connect it to the Sony app, so I might be missing a few things. It connects thru BT, but fails to see the product in the app. Watching normal TV, the sound quality is clear and crisp. There is a distinct differentiation from the separate channels though spatial audio is not really noticeable. Bass frequencies are limited, but present. Not many settings: voice filtering on/off, sound field, and night mode (for volume balance). The bass toggle button suggests minute adjustments, but you only get low, med, max. For movies, it does a much better job at deciphering the audio distribution and this is where you notice a distinct difference toggling the sound field on and off. Voice is heard better over background music than my other sound bar and Atmos effect comes thru great. I still find myself mashing the bass + button to no avail, might be a better fit for smaller rooms or maybe I'm used to a separate sub (2 of which are available for $$$ upgrade). Too bad I can't just use my current sub, would've made all the difference. Aside from lack of thump, my only other con would be a 3 second muting effect every time you adjust the volume. It's incredibly annoying and may be due to the fact that my TV is not a Sony. Oh and the price could use some major work considering it doesn't come with a sub. There's better systems for a lot less with similar or better sound. If they take care of those issues in future updates, it would be worth getting.

    An average soundbar from Sony

The soundbar market may be the most competitive market in the home theater industry at this time. I remember my first Dolby Atmos soundbar, an expensive 4-piece kit that came with upfiring wireless satellites, a wireless sub, and a giant soundbar with upward-firing speakers. Man, did it sound amazing, kicking a large 8-speaker home theater system with a giant receiver to the curb. Over the years, soundbars have varied greatly in size and capability. Having owned several Sony Soundbars over the last couple of years (my current main room setup is an A5000 with LRS5 wireless surrounds and a SW5 wireless sub - an absolutely fantastic setup), I was excited to review the S2000. The S2000 is a smaller, chic version of the A5000 that currently graces my main room. The S2000 does not have upward-firing woofers for Atmos, but claims to create Atmos and DTS-X effects through the use of DSP (Vertical Surround Engine). The S2000 is a 3.1 channel soundbar, the .1 due to a built-in dual sub. Looking at the inputs, the S2000 does not have much to mention. Just an e-ARC HDMI input, an optical input in case you don't have HDMI, and bluetooth. It would have been nice to see Wifi on the unit, so at least one could stream music from iTunes or Spotify, but nope, not happening. Sony also notes that the S2000 can work with their series of wireless surround and subwoofer speakers, and that they can be added easily through the app (Home Entertainment Connect). I happened to have a pair of RS3S wireless surrounds and a SW5 wireless subwoofer at my house, which I did connect to the S2000 after initial testing. More on that later. Setup was easy. I took the S2000 to my master bedroom, plugged the HDMI cable into the back of my TV, selected e-ARC on the TV menu, plugged the S2000 into power, and started watching TV. I streamed several shows in regular Dolby, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, and PCM. Sound was okay... PCM sounded tinny and voices were hard to hear. Dolby was definitely more defined and enjoyable. I switched the Soundfield mode on and off, watched a variety of content, and came away with the feeling that while the Soundfield mode did change the sound, I couldn't decide if it really made the sound bigger, or "taller" like it was simulating Atmos effects. The quality of the sound was pleasant enough, but I felt like voices were muffled and I had to use the Voice mode to hear anything during busy scenes. And with Voice mode switched on, other parts of the soundtracks were diminished. The bass was okay, definitely better than what came out of the TV speakers, but the TV speakers sounded clearer than the soundbar in some cases (particularly with PCM sources). The S2000 got decently loud, but there is only so much you can do with such a small box. To be honest, I've been more impressed by less expensive soundbars. To see how the S2000 would sound with a complete set up, i.e., satellites and a sub, I connected the RS3S speakers and the SW5 sub using the Home Entertainment Connect app. This system did sound good. Sound was definitely more enveloping and the bass was fuller (to be expected, the SW5 costs more than the S2000). But here is the caveat. Someone looking to mate the S2000 with surround speakers and a sub can find themselves spending a lot of money. The RS3S speakers are 300 dollars, the SW5 is 700 dollars and the S2000 itself is 500 dollars. That is 1500 dollars for a system that only simulates Atmos... Even if you bought the cheaper SW3 for 400 dollars, you're still looking at 1200 dollars for a surround setup that doesn't officially do Atmos or WiFi. On the other hand, you can buy soundbar systems that come with upward-firing drivers, wireless speakers, and WiFi connectivity for the same amount. As a standalone soundbar, I feel the S2000 is best suited for small rooms and small-scale listening. Expanding to surrounds and a wireless sub definitely adds to the scale of sound, but also costs quite a bit of money. I give the S2000 on its own a 3 out of 5 stars.

    The soundbar I didn’t know I needed

I’ve had 3 soundbars now, each one being a vast improvement over the previous. They’ve all been moderately priced soundbars (the room is not very large so no need for a high end soundbar), and now this Sony has made the soundbar I didn’t realize I needed this entire time. This was the simplest soundbar setup of the 3 that I’ve had. You just need the 1 HDMI cable to plug into the eARC/ARC HDMI port, and to download the Sony Home app. That’s pretty much it! You don’t need to sign up for a Sony account, you don’t need to connect the soundbar to the internet (no Alexa/Siri), and you don’t even need to use the remote, since you can do everything within the Sony app itself. My TV outputting sound so quickly on the Sony made me realize my previous soundbar, which would always take up to 30 seconds before it would turn sound on, was either failing or just not made well. Once you’ve spent all of the 3 minutes physically connecting the soundbar and opening the app, you’re in business with the basic settings. The first thing I did was turn on the Sound field, enabled DTS Virtual:X, and DSEE. I also enabled the Automatically Adjust Volume, to avoid loud sources when switching inputs. I also enabled Auto Standby, which is excellent as I put in my earbuds when watching a movie on AppleTV, or my gaming headsets when on the PS5, either one stops sounds from soundbar, so there is no point in having it on. The downside of this (which is really just a user issue) – when the soundbar is turned off (either manually or after 20 minutes), the screen goes black for about 5 seconds. While on my headset/earbuds, I still hear the sound, that is never a problem, but the TV goes black so I don’t see what’s going on for a few seconds. This is particularly a problem when playing a game. I’m getting used to manually turning it off and getting the black screen immediately before getting it by surprised. Again, not really a problem with the equipment itself, but more of usage of it. I’ve also enabled the IR-Repeater, it seems to make my TV remote work better because I can now just point to the soundbar instead of going out of my way to point it to the tv (I have furniture that can block IR on TV if I’m sitting in certain spots). With all those settings enabled, watching movies and TV shows now are a world of difference with the 3.1 sound coming out on the soundfield. Dialogue actually sounds clearer than before, and there are certain TV shows where the dialogue is just much lower than the rest – Ted Lasso is one of the shows. Previously, I would have to raise the volume and that made everything loud, but now I can simply press the Voice Mode on the app (or remote) and it actually boosts dialogue without boosting everything else. This is so useful, but at the same time, since the dialogue already seems to be boosted without it, I don’t need to use the feature/adjust sound as much as I did before! The Bluetooth function is also great, you can set it to Bluetooth via the app or the button, and switch between the two. Pros: Strictly a Soundbar, no internet required Great App: no account required, can turn device on/off, can switch from TV to Bluetooth. All functions available in app Dialogue is much clearer, plus Voice Mode Good remote: all the buttons you need, and remote itself feels nice to touch Cons: Turning off soundbar give you 5 seconds of black screen Sound Field is direct, so you would have to adjust the soundbar to point to you if you’re not directly centered in front of it Not many cons, because this is a great soundbar. Feels premium for moderate price! Highly recommend.

The Subwoofer and satellites sold separately. The Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Apple AirPlay 2, and Chromecast built-in compatibility leaves you with no stone unturned I. Regard to connectivity. The reason for 4 stars is only due to the sound bar downmixes surround and height content. Worse the lack of low-bass. The overall sound from a dual subwoofer is a winner in a compact sound bar if you do not need anything else or space is an issue. The three front speakers, and a center channel designed specifically for clear dialogue, the HT-S2000 3.1ch sound bar delivers clear dialogue so another plus. The Sony app turns your smartphone into a complete remote for the bar, so that is nice. Setting up and using the soundbar is easy with the app. It can guide you step by step through initial settings, help with troubleshooting, and give full control of volume, sound fields, right from your smartphone. Mounting onto the wall was pretty straightforward with no major measuring fiasco. It is a beautiful sound bar although it is smaller but still bigger than others in this price range.

Sony really hooked me in with their HT-A5000 so I was really excited to see, or better yet, hear how the smaller HT-S2000 would sound and I've gotta say they did great with this one too and I love it. Its a 3.1 channels soundbar which means that like all soundbars it has 3 speakers (front firing) and 1 sub, but Sony went and did things a little differently with the HT-S2000 and had the sub built into the soundbar, which I thought was pretty cool and more of a minimalist design without completely sacrificing bass. It is HDMI eARC or bluetooth connected. It has great surround sound technology to support Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. The remote control is easy to use and adjust your sound experience. Set up is incredibly easy and handled through Sony's Home Entertainment app, which also lets you control your sound settings as well. It just sounds great, I tried it with some 4K movies and some games on my PS5 and I was really happy with what I was hearing. Also, one thing that doesnt get mentioned is packaging, I like the reusable boxing for the soundbar. It might sound dumb, but I have moved enough times and I hate trying to pack long or large electronics into cube boxes and being worried they'll be damaged, having packaging that can be saved for later and reused is nice. Now before you think this is just a positive review there was one annoying issue with the HT-S2000. Sony claims that HT-S2000 can pair with its home theater add-ons like the Sony SA-SW3, SA-SW5 subwoofers and, SA-RS3S rear speakers, to really take your home theater experience to another level. I have found this to be a half truth. I have an SA-SW3 sub and a pair of SA-RS3S rear speakrs for my main home theater set up with my HT-A5000. In trying to pair them to test out their claim, the HT-S2000 would let me pair one of the devices, but not both, if I did the sub the rear speakers would be disconnected and vice-versa. My guess is that because of the internal sub there is a complication with trying to connect a second external sub and rear speakers and still have all the sound control be seperate in the app. Maybe I made a mistake on my end or maybe it needs an update patch I'm not sure, its not a big enough issue for me to dislike the soundbar at all bit it was something I found and thought should be known. The issue wasn't really big enough for me to really even dislike it a little. Overall, the Sony HT-S2000 is awesome and I love it. Its my new soundbar for my 2nd TV and I've even recommended it as an excellent choice for a starter soundbar becaue of its design and sound.

I would recommend this to a friend
