I bought the Sony X80J TV along with this Sony ht-z9f soundbar and set it up in my living room (along with the rear speakers). Since day one it has intermittently stopped playing audio throughout all speakers. The only work around was to pause the movie/show, go to settings and change audio from TV speaker to Audio System. Once you do this it'll play again on the soundbar. If you don't do this, there is no audio for the remainder of the show, or it may randomly come back on. Very annoying. I had Geek Squad come out and OF COURSE we could not reproduce the issue. I returned my original purchase and got a second one hoping the first one was a dud. Nope, the second one does the same thing. Random audio cut out continues. Geek Squad came out and yet again the issue would not reproduce itself when they were hear. As soon as they left the issue began anew. Stupid how that always seems to happen. I have another soundbar in my basement and decided to swap them out to see if I would face the same issue. NOPE. The one that I had in the basement now hooked up in the living room has had no issues. So it's definitely the Sony ht-z9f. I even followed Sony's canned reply link and it does not help: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/articles/00200429 I plan on returning this soundbar to find something worth my $700 that works.

We'd like to help and turn this to a better experience. Please make sure that the software is updated as it helps to improve the overall quality of the soundbar.
If the surround effect cannot be obtained, try these solutions below:
- Depending on the input signal and the sound mode setting, surround sound processing may not work effectively. The surround effect may be subtle, depending on the program or disc.
- To play multi-channel audio, check the digital audio output setting on the device connected to the system. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the connected device.
You can feel immersed by the sound from not only the horizontal direction, but also from the upward direction by using Vertical Surround Engine effectively for sound modes. Please open this link on page 48-51 to adjust the sound quality of the soundbar.
