Sounds Great When it Works
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have my system set up using ARC from a new TCL 4K set. Audio cuts out randomly for about 500ms and comes back. This happens 5-8 times per hour. Almost daily the entire bar becomes unresponsive and I have to hard power cycle the TV, the bar, unplug everything, plug it in, and reboot. This is a five minute process almost daily. The only solution offered is a hard reset every time. This is considered a resolution to the problem. I do not agree.

Posted .Hi Skroo,
We're sorry to hear you're having a connection problem between your soundbar and TCL 4K TV. Despite the issue, we appreciate you like the sound quality of our HTZ9F. There are some things we’d like for you to try and see if we can resolve your audio cut off.
First, verify the HDMI cables you are using are rated for high speed and are at least 18 Gbps cables. Try replacing them if you have not. Next, ensure CEC control is enabled on the soundbar and your TV. You’ll need to refer to the manual of your TV, and for the soundbar, it’s on page 64. We’re not sure which brand of TV you have your soundbar connected, however, please ensure both are on the latest firmware. Please ensure that any WiFi router or modem is placed away from your audio as they may cause interference with the operation of your soundbar and speakers.
You can also try this procedure in case the drop off is being caused by wireless interference within your home:  https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/articles/00200429.
When doing this RF Channel procedure, please ensure the connection process takes 1 minute to connect. If the connection process takes less than 15 seconds, repeat the operation a second time. Once that is done, you may also perform the Secure Link operation which is shown on page 33.
A firmware update to improve the connection quality for your HTZ9F is now available on our website. For instructions on how to update the firmware of your soundbar, please visit https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/downloads/00016893.

Great.. when it actually works… which is not often
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hoping not to post a negative review, but six months after purchase and I sad to have to say, if you enjoy months of frustration, audio issues making your viewing completely unbearable or love feeling regret for spending money on useless items… you found the perfect item. A consistent complaint by many online, with no clear solution, I have changed inputs, moved routers, hardwired with Ethernet and used a standard audio cable and still the same issue… subwoofer constantly cuts in and out, or just simply doesn’t work. You buy wireless to be wireless so a solution of running wires to make it work properly is unacceptable to me. While your thoughts and experience may be different, and I am sure this is a great product when working properly, I have been nothing but disappointed. I suggest looking for other options and search common issues with models before purchasing any soundbar.

Posted .Hi Greg, We're sorry to hear about the subwoofer connection issue that you're having. This is usually not the case for our soundbar nor the experience we want you to have. If you use multiple wireless systems, such as a wireless LAN, the wireless signals may become unstable. In this case, the transmission may improve by changing the following [RF Channel] setting.

TERRIBLE Customer Service.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the process of returning. We had issues every step of the way, both with this product and mostly with the terrible service at Best Buy. Soundbar is tinny and thin without the subwoofer. Subwoofer would not stay connected for more than one viewing at a time; and often would not connect despite multiple setups. Every form of customer service by this company is lacking. They cannot help their customers - I have been on the phone with the wrong people more times than I can count and the store DOES NOT call back when the national service issues a "call request". Just a terrible experience and will never purchase from Best Buy again once this mess is wrapped up. I hope I can at least get my money back on this piece of garbage by the end of this.

Posted .Hi Steve,
We are so sorry if the sound quality of our Z9F Dolby Atmos soundbar did not meet your expectations. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have in our product. Some of this issue happened if the soundbar is not setup correctly. The HT-Z9F features customizable speaker settings where you can set the speaker distance from 0 ft to 33 ft for much richer sound quality. You can raise the level of the soundbar and subwoofer an additional 6 dB in the user interface menu. This will allow you to fully experience the rumbling lows during explosions of a movie, and the clarity of the string instruments during an orchestral performance. To round out your listening experience, we recommend adding the SAZ9R wireless rear speakers.
For reference on how to adjust the levels of the soundbar and listening distance, please use the link below:

Posted .Hi Josh,
Thank you for sharing your experience with the HTZ9F. We regret that we were not able to meet your expectations with the loudness of the soundbar. We'd like to help troubleshoot and isolate the issue. Please try some of these solutions if there is no sound or only a very low-level sound of the device connected to the system is heard.
Press volume+ on the remote control and check the volume level.
Press volume+ on the remote control to cancel the muting function.
Make sure the input source is selected correctly. You should try other input sources by pressing the
input select button on the remote control (TV/HDMI1/HDMI2/ANALOG/USB/BLUETOOTH).
Check that all the cables and cords of the system and connected device are firmly inserted.
When you play content compatible with copyright protection technology (HDCP), it may not be output from the system.
Set [Setup] - [Advanced Settings]- [HDMI Settings] - [HDMI Signal Format] to [Standard format].

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this unit and a XBR65A8F Dec 15th of 2019 and did not hook it up for 2 weeks as I was prepping the area for the TV and soundbar. The soundbar was installed and running for less than 2 months when sound started cutting out. I did my own trouble shooting and realized the issue was with the input from my cable box to the soundar. If I used any app on the smart TV and it was running through the ARC then it was fine. If I turned the soundbar off and passed the HDMI connection through to the TV it was also okay. Soundbar on and outputting sound from cable box and it would cut out. When I say cut out it was for 2 seconds and every 30 to 60 minutes between events. And before you ask, yes I changed the cables multiple times. I opened a case with Sony and after they had me do the usual reset (Sony's default answer to everything) the problem persisted. They had me send it in for service and and replaced the main board. Less than 2 months later and voila, same old problem. I started a new case and the usual reset was recommended. This problem persist so next is I ask for a new unit, not this one though. Save your money. I had a Denon AVR 1913 for over 5 years and never an issue. I wanted the soundbar so I could get rid of all the speakers but clearly should have kept using it.
