The wife loves the absence of speaker wires running around the den. The staff at our local Best Buy was very helpful and the customer service was outstanding.

Caution: Subwoofer Cuts out randomly!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The soundbar is great. I even bought the rear satellites, but THE SUBWOOFER KEEPS CUTTING OUT!!! Some searching I found https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/sound-bars-home-theater-systems-sound-bars/ht-z9f/articles/00200429. After doing all the steps, it is true the subwoofer works UNTIL you turn off/standby the soundbar(automatically goes into standby when tv turns off). Then when you turn on the tv the next time, the subwoofer will randomly cut out again. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE... No one wants into the menus EVERY time you turn on the tv to fiddle around with the settings.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Should just use the tv speakers. This system is not worth the money or the hassle of set up. It’s not comparable with a Sony tv. The remote resets the tv if your not careful.

DO NOT BUY THIS !!!!
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DO NOT BUY THIS !!!!! Sound will periodically cut out every few minutes ( esp with all streaming Netflix Disney+ etc ) - this will drive you crazy !!! Thought I was buying top of the line system ( and tv x950) have had for nearly a year and have tried EVERYTHING . I have searched a million online threads all with same problem and tried every single solution ( I should have returned it but figured it must be a setting ) . It can not be fixed or Sony doesn’t want to fix it . Tried to watch new Disney + Beatles special was UNWATCHABLE, you just wait for the next sound drop out .

Posted .Hi SONYJUNKSOUNDBAR,
Thank you for reaching out to us. We're sorry to hear the issue that you are experiencing with the soundbar where the audio cuts out. We'd like to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue. May we know the connection method between your TV and soundbar? If the sound cuts out when playing streaming content or when connected with HDMI ARC / eARC , please try some of these solution below:
Make sure that both the TV and soundbar have the latest firmware update.
Turn off the soundbar, wait 30 seconds, and then turn it back on, audio will resume.
If you're streaming Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio formats, it may go out again.
Disable eARC functionality from the TV side.
On the TV remote control, press the Home button.
Select Display & Sound → Audio output → eARC mode → OFF
Note: This will disable the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio and down convert to LPCM / Dolby Digital format.

subwoofer breakout
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.subwoofer sound breakouts / barely playing bass upon unboxing. I looked it up, seems like it's vulnerable to wifi/signal interferences and we live in a world full of them.. Very sad; I was looking forward to the sound quality

Posted .Hi fuzzybunz,
Thank you for taking time to review our product. We regret to hear that the subwoofer sound breaks out. We'd love to help and isolate the issue. Check the following if the sound cuts out or noise is heard from the subwoofer or rear speaker of your HT-Z9F 3.1ch Dolby Atmos® Soundbar:
Don't block the soundbar and the connected device.
Place your soundbar near the connected device.
Try a wired connection instead of wireless connection.
If using wireless connection, make sure there are no other devices near the soundbar.
Devices such as microwave oven and routers produce electromagnetic waves may that interfere with your soundbar.
Turn on the RF Channel.
On the supplied soundbar remote control, press the HOME button.
Select Setup.
Select Advanced Settings.
Select Speaker Settings.
Select Wireless Speaker Settings.
Select RF Channel.
Select On.
Note: It may take one minute to reconnect after you change the settings.
If you unplug the power cord, the frequency settings is deleted. Turn the RF Channel to On again.
Your soundbar automatically selects the best channel for transmission when RF Channel is set to On, which makes it stronger against wireless interference

avoid open box items
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i tried to save some money with an open box item from the warehouse. It was rated as excellent condition, which according to bestbuys website is like new conditon and all parts come with it. The soundbar arrived in the original box but nothing was wrapped in the original protective wrapping which was in the box but just shoved into empty spaces in the box. The sound bar had obvious marks on the plastic fascia and it was also missing the remote control which makes setting it up impossible. So much for excellent condition.

Sounds good when not cutting in and out
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought Sony HTZ9F system along with optional rear speakers on 3/16 after getting a nice presentation at the store however shortly after getting new TV and sound bar mounted and connected I noticed that when playback on Blue Ray player (also purchased) the sound cuts out consistently. I contacted Sony direct and their solution was to restart the sound bar which does resolve the issue but only temporarily. Noticed now there are a lot of other reviews on BB complaining of this same very issue which is very alarming. Will attempt to contact Best Buy direct to get options available during the new state wide stay in place orders.

Great sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received the sound and out of the box it was easy to set up. I have a Sony 4k TV with an Xbox One X (X1X) and a Sony Playstation 4 Pro. The X1X has a built in 4k player as well as 4k streaming and gaming. The PS4Pro is rather limited in this regard. The X1X fully supports Atmos while the PS4Pro can but takes some knowing how to setup the sound and doesn't directly support Atmos. The sound bar has 2 HDMI inputs which is great as both are plugged into it. Both the X1X and PS4Pro can turn the TV and sound bar on and off. I pretty much use the X1X for this. The sound bar comes with it own demo disk. While the sound bar does sound amazing but I had trouble distinguishing between stereo and Atmos. As part of this test I was also giving the rear channel speakers. I will add a review for those on their product page. I will say that once I added the rear speakers Atmos came to life. X1X also has a few games that support Atmos with more coming which is amazing. I like playing a game and being able to hear where something is. No games for the PS4Pro. Have to wait for the PS5 before that will happen. This soundbar sounds amazing to say the least. They make even the most mundane game sound EPIC beyond what it has any right to. That said I am disappointed that the soundbar by itself does not seem to give Atmos performance. It is still a great setup.

Not worth the money, cuts out all the time
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought a brand new Sony TV a week ago and bought this soundbar to go with it. Figured since both were Sony there would be no problems with it. Well I was wrong. Installed with HDMI between soundbar and TV and it cuts out all the time. When it works it sounds good but every 20 minutes or so it just quits working and you have to turn it off and then back on to get the sound to return. Thinking if sony doesn't respond to my email within a few days I'm gonna try to return to bestbuy before the 14 return policy is up. Should of went with the Sonos instead.

Posted .Hi RyanW1302,
We are so sorry to hear about what happened. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have in our product. There are some things we’d like for you to try and see if we can resolve your audio cut off.
First, verify the HDMI cables you are using are rated for high speed and are at least 18 Gbps cables. Try replacing them if you have not. Next, ensure CEC control is enabled on the soundbar and your TV. You’ll need to refer to the manual of your TV, and for the soundbar, it’s on page 64 of this link https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4727/d3668cdaf4f83107b52ee9bdb84fa5a0/47275331M.pdf.
Please also ensure that you have the latest firmware update on your Sony TV and soundbar. For the soundbar, please follow the steps provided on this link https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/downloads/00016893.
You can also try this procedure in case the drop off is being caused by wireless interference within your home:  https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/articles/00200429.

Not worth buying
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is the worst especially for the price. I bought this product with high hopes; however i started experiencing intermittent sound. Had the product sent out 2x to be told that it was not fixable. Silly me, I purchased the same thing again, thinking it was a 1x issue only to be experiencing the same thing again. High upset and frustrated... for the price i expected better quality and some longevity.

Great bass. Terrible otherwise.
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had high hopes for soundbar after reading lots of great reviews, but it was so bad that I question if I got a defective unit. Bass performance was fantastic, but that's the only positive thing I can say. Voices (even with voice boost settings turned on) were near impossible to hear. Atmos made things sound a little higher, but did nothing to create a sense of overhead sound. Look elsewhere if you're looking for a soundbar.

Posted .Hi TimD,
We are so sorry if the sound quality of our HTZ9F did not meet your expectations. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have in our product. Some of this issue happened if the soundbar is not setup correctly. The HT-Z9F features customizable speaker settings where you can set the speaker distance from 0 ft to 33 ft for much richer sound quality. You can raise the level of the soundbar and subwoofer an additional 6 dB in the user interface menu. This will allow you to fully experience the rumbling lows during explosions of a movie, and the clarity of the string instruments during an orchestral performance. To round out your listening experience, we recommend adding the SAZ9R wireless rear speakers.
For reference on how to adjust the levels of the soundbar and listening distance, please use the link below:
