      Hi Morgan,

Thank you for sharing your experience with the HTZ9F. We’re sorry to hear you're experiencing some audio issues with the soundbar. We want to make sure that you’re taken care of and go through some troubleshooting with you to make sure your soundbar is great. Audio may skip if there is a device nearby that generates electromagnetic waves, such as a wireless LAN or a microwave oven in use, locate the system apart from it. Let's try to isolate your audio drops out issue by following the steps below:

      1. If you are using an HDMI cable to connect a device to your TV, make sure it is a Certified Premium HDMI cable with a length of 6 feet or less.
Skip this step if you don’t have one available.
      2. Unplug the Soundbar power cord and plug it back in.
      Turn off the soundbar.
Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
After one minute, replug the power cable back to the wall outlet.
      Turn on the soundbar.
      3. If you use multiple wireless systems, such as a wireless LAN, the wireless signals may become unstable. In this case, the transmission may improve by changing the following [RF Channel] setting.

For more information on how to change the [RF Channel] setting, please refer to this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/articles/00200429

I bought this to go with my Sony 75" x 950H. In most instances, there was a 2 second sound delay that was really irritating. Geek Squad said I need to be streaming live for it to work correctly all the time. I have cable. Then it stopped working all together. Sent it back.

Good Sound Quality But Little Atmos Effect

I was very excited when this sound bar was announced, as it promised the ability to add Dolby Atmos to my existing upstairs living room without the need for a bulky receiver unit, and paired with the wireless surround speakers that are made for this 3.1 system, I wouldn't even need to run cords to the front to get legitimate surround sound! Unfortunately, I've been underwhelmed with the Atmos sound, which may or may not be the result of the room I'm using the system in. To start, I'll say up front that the sound quality is pretty good for a sound bar. It'll be more than sufficient for most, though audiophiles (which I somewhat consider myself) may be underwhelmed. The included subwoofer has a surprising amount of power for its size, though I had to crank it nearly to max before it felt balanced with the rest of the system. Also, the ability to handle 4K@60hz pass thru is a huge bonus (though it has only 2 HDMI inputs to utilize it). As stated above, in my particular room setup where this system will be used (which has vaulted ceilings which very well may be negatively impacting the system), the Atmos effect is quite underwhelming. It seems to use the rear speakers (which are an optional extra) to synthesize the Atmos effect, and while it opens up the sound space, I never had a sense of "altitude"; said another way, I never felt as though the sound came from different height planes. I'm not a fan of how Sony chose to include the inputs for the soundbar. Instead of putting the input ports on the subwoofer unit, which I'd imagine most will nest behind an entertainment center, they elected to place the inputs on the soundbar itself. While this may have been done for technical reasons (perhaps to reduce latency), this poses a convenience issue, especially for those intending to wall mount the soundbar. My next issue with their input placement is that they've chosen to put the inputs at an angle, undoubtedly for those choosing to wall mount. However, they should've given the HDMI ports more clearance. The display/ARC enabled port is the furthest back, and I had quite a bit of trouble connecting a heavy duty cable. For those looking for a top of the line soundbar with good sound quality and the ability to pass thru the lastest 4K/HDMI spec signal, this fits the bill. When fitted with the optional surround speakers, getting good sounding surround sound couldn't be easier or more convenient, and for these reasons alone I would recommend the system if you can deal with the price. That being said, those expecting to be wowed by the system's Atmos abilities will be underwhelmed.

Hi Horrible, Thank you for choosing Sony! We regret to hear that you are having issues with the audio of the HTZ9F, we'd love to troubleshoot the issue and make this a better experience for you. First, we would like to check if the sound cuts out or noise is heard from the subwoofer or rear speaker of your HT-Z9F 3.1ch Dolby Atmos® Soundbar:
Don't block the soundbar and the connected device.
Place your soundbar near the connected device.
Try a wired connection instead of wireless connection.
If you are using a wireless connection, make sure there are no other devices near the soundbar.
Devices such as microwave oven and routers produce electromagnetic waves may that interfere with your soundbar.

Please turn on the RF Channel. On the supplied soundbar remote control, press the HOME button.
Select Setup. > Select Advanced Settings. > Select Speaker Settings.> Select Wireless Speaker Settings. > Select RF Channel. > Select On.

You may check our troubleshooting article for this: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/articles/00200429

This sound bar with wireless sub is on the large size. I have a 50” TV and it is even wider than my TV. The sub box is pretty big as well. It needs to be mounted with enough room below the TV to access the control buttons. The buttons on top of the sound bar are not really buttons, they are sensors so you need to be able to see or read them to be able to select one of them. Fortunately you may not need them that often. Or you can use the included remote control. If you are just watching TV, then you can power your TV on and it powers on automatically. If you want to use the Bluetooth function and play music using your cell phone, you can either use the sound bar remote, or select the input from the top of the sound bar. It has a display behind the screen that tells you which input is selected which is nice. I have tried entry level and mid level sound bars in the past. With the entry level sound bars sometimes the voice gets muffled and is hard to hear. This sound bar does not have that problem. The adjustable sub level is nice too. The wireless sub and rear speakers connect easily. I have a wireless modem nearby and I think I may have some occasional interference with the sub. So you may want to put some distance between any wireless modem and the sub. I have the pair of wireless rear speakers hooked up as well. They are relatively small so you can set them on a shelf or table. The only downside is that since they are powered, you need to place them somewhere near an outlet. Once plugged in they are easy to pair with the sound bar. I think this sound bar and wireless sub are a bit expensive. They do have a few extra features than my old mid level sound bar, but is it worth 3 times the price, I’m not so sure about that.

Overall this Sony Soundbar is great solution for those with limited space. I have an older Sony Soundbar and this was a definite leap in sound. In addition to being able to use handle the newest formats, it's a clean wireless setup. It comes in 'L' shaped box for the subwoofer and soundbar. It's not too heavy. One nice touch is the soundbar grill is held on magnetically, so it’s easy to place on and take off as wanted. It also comes with hangers for the sound bar. The Soundbar has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 output along with a LAN, toslink and a 3.5mm analog port. All of the ports are located together. The soundbar LCD display can be dimmed so it isn't distracting. On startup, the soundbar found the subwoofer and 2 extra satellite speakers (the ones designated for the unit and not included in this package) automatically. Setup was easy, but make sure you designate a HDMI port as enhanced in the menu to get 4K and the full sound options. 4K pass through worked without a problem, everything looked great. The Sony menu system is updated and looks better but operates the same as any other Sony device if you're used to them. The enhanced sound, Sony's Vertical Sound Engine, does make a difference. It fills the room better than a normal soundbar, but it’s still not true 5.1. It does make the most of a soundbar and sounds better. What really made the unit shine was using it with the rear satellite speakers. Then you have true surround sound with the Vertical Sound Engine. This setup really shows off the newest sound formats. But, you may not have the space or money for the extra speakers. Pluses over a normal wired setup are of course, no speaker wires to run. However, you need a plug for every device. If you have the optional rear speakers it’s 4 outlets, and the rears have to be somewhere close to where you want them. Being able to place the subwoofer away for the soundbar is a plus. There was no delay issue with any of the speakers and this can be addressed in the speaker sub menu section. Overall, if you want a premium soundbar experience this is it. No wires, and 2 pieces and you can have great sound from small sound bar. You can get a 5.1 system for the same money, but you’ll have to run wires, and you’re getting a system like this to avoid wires. By itself, the soundbar and subwoofer are a nice sounding package for limited space areas, or a less complex setup. To get the absolute most out of it, add the rear speakers.

I live in a 40 year old house with a vaulted ceiling so routing speaker wires is a challenge. It’s my old surround system has unsightly wires running along the baseboard and always get sucked up by the vacuum cleaner. I discovered the Sony HTZ9F soundbar with wireless subwoofer and optional wireless rear speakers as an option to my current system. Setup was easy. Plug in the power. Hook up the input. If your TV has a ARC HDMI things get simpler but for my setup I had the HDMI output of the sound bar to a TV HDMI input so I could see the on screen menu from the speakers and I used the optical output from the TV to the sound bar for sound. The wireless subwoofer and two rear speakers do require a wall outlet to power them but the sound bar easily recognized all of the speakers and walked me through an on screen setup to set distance from the listener depending on placement of the rear speaker. Due to the placement of my right rear speaker I was able to throttle the output down so it wasn’t overpowering the other speakers that were farther away. Running the speakers through a few sound demos, including the one on the DVD provided the sound is pretty immersive. I did find the rear speakers acting more like front speakers in some of the surround sound demos however I did fire up a recorded concert from my DVR and the sound was pretty awesome. The vertical surround feature fills the room and is available with a simple click on the remote. Other great features include built in Chromecast, LAN, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity so you and play music from any device connected to your network. I did experience one annoyance however but it was fairly easy to fix once I ran through the on screen menus. I don’t need or want the soundbar active for everything I watch. I had difficulty finding the right setting to make the soundbar only come on when I wanted it rather than the default of powering on with the TV. Once I found the setting the soundbar behaves as I desire. Simply turn the option off where you can control both devices with the remote. That setting will allow you to turn off and on the soundbar when you want it and the volume of the TV and the soundbar are separate. I do think the price point on this unit is a tad on the high side especially with the rear speakers being optional. I think for the price the rear speakers should have been included.
