That’s how I’d best sum up this sound bar. I’ve yet to experience the Atmos effect at all but I what I have experienced is great sounding cinema and music. I think it would really benefit to add the rear speakers at some point but I’m happy to stick with the 3.1 setup for now. It would be really nice if the bar had one more HDMI input, but the 2 inputs will be plenty for most people.

I always had HT systems and I was skeptical a out getting a soundbar... I was wrong! When correctly configured the Dolby Atmos kicks in and boom! Immersive and quality sound... when you pair with a Sony TV it is even better! Also the 2 HDMI with HDR enabled extends the amount of HDR devices that you can connect! To unlock the full potential you must purchase the additional speakers to have that 5.1 sound... it is amazing! No interference and the wireless speakers and subwoofer works flawless. I use it for Netflix, Xbox and PS4... no wires or messy cables around! Go for it!

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this to replace a Samsung K950 sound bar with “truer” Dolby ATMOS to go with a new Sony TV and because the Samsung doesn’t have Dolby Vision pass through, which this does and was really the only sound bar I could find with the pass through and it just happens to be a Sony which meshes perfectly with the TV. This sound bar (and rear speakers) sounds GREAT!! The rear speakers completes this and I HIGHLY recommend this sound bar and the rear speakers. It definitely feels very immersive, I think it’s better than the Samsung and it fits right in front of the TV due to its smaller size.

The sound when watching movies isn’t as crisp as the definitive tower and surround sound system I replaced. Going to have Geek Squad come out and help. My system is now streamlined which is what I was looking for. The wireless sub lets me hide it and still get great sound anywhere in the room. The sub is a must have. Going to look into purchasing the surround speakers to take it to another level. I’m overall happy about this product

Great performance but not reliable

Sounds way better than average and brings detailed sounds out that you don’t hear with other sound bars. The sub woofer is necessary to me. I like it better than other soundbars that don’t have a dedicated sound at. You get much better dynamic range. Adding the rear speakers makes a big difference, but at this price point you may be better off going with a different brand. The con is a big con, and why I took so many stars away. So now I’m looking for alternative. The sound drops too often. When your in the middle of a movie or sometimes when starting one. To me this is unacceptable as it just ruins the entire experience of the movie. Feels like there’s a hardware issue given this has been going on for a while and the software is up to date.

Please make sure your unit has the latest firmware by performing a software update: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/sound-bars-home-theater-systems-sound-bars-surround-speakers/ht-z9f/downloads. The updates improve the general performance of the unit and resolve any possible software-related issues. Check the connection and make sure the cables are connected securely with your Bravia TV and this soundbar system. You can also disconnect the cables that are connected between the TV and the system, then connect them firmly again. Feel free to test the unit again and verify if it resolves the issue.

Spotty connectivity but amazing quality when works

I’ve noticed, it happens to HBO Max, happened while watching game of thrones but not when watching the same show on the spectrum app. BUT, when it does work wow oh wow is it an experience. It will ruin watching tv without the system set up. I also have the small back speakers in my set up.

While we are pleased you are satisfied with the amazing sound quality of our Z9F Dolby Atmos soundbar- especially when paired with SAZ9R wireless rear speakers, we are sorry you are encountering a connectivity issue with the subwoofer. There are some things we’d like for you to try and see if we can resolve your audio cut-off.
First, verify the HDMI cables you are using are rated for high speed and are at least 18 Gbps cables. Try replacing them if you have not. Next, ensure CEC control is enabled on the soundbar and your TV. You’ll need to refer to your TV's manual, and for the soundbar, it’s on page 64 of this link https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4727/d3668cdaf4f83107b52ee9bdb84fa5a0/47275331M.pdf. We’re not sure which brand of TV you have your soundbar connected to, however, please ensure both are on the latest firmware. Please reference the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your Z9F:

Please ensure that any WiFi router or modem is placed away from your audio as they may cause interference with the operation of your soundbar and speakers.

When doing this RF Channel procedure, please ensure the connection process takes 1 minute to connect. If the connection process takes less than 15 seconds, repeat the operation a second time. Great Package, Truly Wireless without Loss

At the time I bought it, it was the only competitor to Sonos with true wireless speakers. Sony has updated the ARC port to allow eARC. Just keep in mind the HDMI ports are 2.0, so if you're chasing the 2.1 train, I suggest getting a TV with that feature then feeding sound to this sound bar with the eARC port only. I added the rear speakers to make this a 5.1 system and the subwoofer puts out way more boomies than I ever would have expected. I would buy this set up again, especially on sale.

I cannot see spending as much for somewhere as a TV but it was a steal to purchase it bundled with a Sony TV. I don't know that I'll ever use the remote for it again since everything can be controlled through my Sony TV.
