Happy overall but not perfect

Sometimes it turns on with the tv and other times it doesn’t and I can’t figure out why. The main reason I got this was the ability to better hear the voices without having to turn it up too loud and I am very pleased with it for that alone.

We are sorry if you are having an issue syncing this soundbar to your Sony TV. The issue you experienced may be resolved by resetting the BRAVIA Sync function between the TV and the soundbar. You will need to go into the menu of the TV and get to the BRAVIA Sync settings. Clear out any devices paired and turn the feature off. Then, disconnect the HDMI cable between the soundbar and TV from both products. Unplug both the TV and soundbar from the power outlet for 1 minute and plug them back in. Reconnect the HDMI cable between the products and enable BRAVIA Sync. You should have audio connections re-established.

The only issue was the setup took a bit longer than I anticipated. The wiring instructions were not as straight forward as I had hoped, which resulted in some time to understand exactly what needed to be done. If this was more clear... I would have given 5 stars.

Disappointing

We bought it with Sony TV and got a significant price reduction from Best Buy for the bundle. Set up was easy. Plug in the subwoofer. Plug in the USB cable from the TV into the sound bar, plug in the soundbar and turn it on. It worked right away. Bluetooth was also easy, flawed only by an semi-obtuse name: HT-Z9F. Audiofiles might recognize that this is the model number, but then, audiofile won't be buying a soundbar. Listening was the disappointment. It sounded hollow, especially the music. It only has three tiny speakers pointing forward, so Dolby Atmos and "surround sound" accomplished by audio gymnastics. So disappointing. Yes - it gets loud. Yes - does a great job with sound effects. But if fails overwhelmingly with Phantom of the Opera, and other music you want to hear. I do not recommend.

Some files may not play depending on the file format, file encoding, recording condition, or other conditions. As with your experience with the hollow sound when playing music, depending on the input signal and the sound mode setting, surround sound processing may not work effectively. The surround effect may be subtle, depending on the program or disc. The system is compatible with eARC
(Enhanced Audio Return Channel). eARC is a new function standardized by HDMI 2.1 and supports latest audio formats in addition to audio formats that are supported with existing ARC (Audio Return Channel). You can enjoy object audio content, such as Dolby Atmos - Dolby TrueHD
and DTS:X, or multi-channel LPCM content that cannot be transmitted with ARC by connecting the system and TV compatible with eARC using a premium high speed HDMI cable. Also, make sure to update the software as it helps to improve the overall quality of the soundbar.
