Good. The sound quality is really good especially if you have the rear wireless speakers. Sometimes it seems as if it gets a little confused though. Sound can cut in and out. I have it direct wired into my router but it seems like there’s a signal issue once in a great while. Again overall the sound is great.

I purchased this soundbar when I purchased a Sony X900F TV because they were running a special where I would get $400 off the price of the soundbar. Overall I like the sound quality, I'm amazed at it's ability to use just 3 speakers to simulate surround sound and atmos. It works nowhere near as well as actually having a real surround sound system but it was for a bedroom where I didn't want to have all the wires. The unit is attractive and does a great job of automatically switching to the input needed when you change your source from using HDMI ARC from the TV to using an input plugged directly into the soundbar. It was simple to setup and has all of the inputs you could want for a soundbar. Voices are very clear and it can play at low volumes at night while still hearing what people are saying. The sub works pretty well and is adjustable to obtain your preferred level of bass. I think if I had paid full price I would have been disappointed in this soundbar though. For $500 it was a good deal but if I was going to spend $900 I probably would have spent a little more to get one that has 5 forward firing and 2 upwards firing atmos speakers. It does have the option to add 2 rear wireless speakers which should improve the surround sound effect but the price on those is a little bit steep as well. Overall if you find this item on sale I would recommend it but if your looking at paying full price I would shop around a little bit more.

In the past our Sony TVs did not have good sound so I bought this sound bar to go with my new TV. I really like the sound bar a lot. I don't blast music like I used to when I was younger, but the volume is more than sufficient for a movie or anything I want to watch. I have not tested to see how loud it gets, but so far I am satisfied. The bass woofer was unexpected but adds a nice depth to the sound. I am pleased with this purchase.

I'm really impressed with this Hi-Res sound bar. It's a bit expensive but sounds so good. My only regret is not buying the SAZ9R rear speaker pair when I bought the soundbar and the Sony 55" Class LED X900F Series 2160p Smart 4K Ultra HDTV with HDR. I see Sony is offering a $200 discount on the soundbar with a TV bundle, and you can save another $100 on the rear speakers when bundled. If you don't have a sound bar yet, get one.

This is a surprisingly muscular sound bar. Great definition and soundstage. And of course, great center channel clarity. The ‘vertical sound’ aspect is more than just a gimmick, it truly does add value to the experience. The subwoofer is more than adequate for 99% of potential users. Add the rear speaker kit, then you have an exceptional system for under 1100 bucks.

Sounds great but only giving it 4 stars as the system has one small glitch. I have it hooked to a Sony TV and it should turn the sound bar on when I turn on the TV but it doesn't work properly. I have to turn on the TV, turn it off, then turn it back on and it will switch the sound to the sound bar. Updated all firmware but still can't figure it out.

Great sound and works seamlessly with Sony TV. Setup was nearly automatic.

This soundbar exceeds expectation by perfectly reproducing the surround sound. The soundbar is sleek and stylish. Setting up the system is extremely simple, it auto detects the wireless speakers and woofers once powered on. Both the HDMI inputs handle 4K, HDR including Dolby vision. Atmos blurays sound awesome, even some HD channels in DTH provide very good effect when we turn the vertical sound option on.

Excellent overall sound. Great bass. Easy to setup. Works well with Sony Television.

In order to explore the world of cord-cutting, my son talked me into upgrading my old system, a 10-year old 52" Sony Bravia coupled with a Sony HT-6900DP - 1000W 6.1 Home Theater system. I was reluctant to do so since my current system still performed flawlessly, but he showed me his home system and convinced me to take the plunge. I went with a 55" Sony X900F and added the HT-Z9F soundbar - and after having done a little research beforehand, decided to go ahead and add the SA-Z9F rear speakers as well. The difference in sound quality, clarity and channel separation is nothing short of remarkable. I'm a little hard of hearing so I always had to crank up the center channel on the old system, and even rely on closed captioning a good deal of the time. No more. I can only describe the difference by saying that the old system just threw sound at you, while this new one surrounds you completely. I now feel like I'm a part of whatever I'm viewing. The sound just totally immerses you with a clarity that is better than most movie theaters. The dialog is crisp and clear without overpowering the rest of the sound like the old system did. After having watched a few TV shows, DVD's and BluRays I have actually been startled by the sound effects like never before. It's still hard to believe that the sound out of this little 2" high soundbar, coupled with a SW and two rear speakers sounds SO much better than the old 1000W 6.1 system it replaced - and best of all, no wires. I didn't even have to go through any kind of setup process. I plugged in the SW and the rear speakers and they just started playing. This was definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

System sounds great and loud. Have it setup with Bravia. Great when adding surround speakers.

Love this soundbar and sub. Sounds great at all levels, more than enough bass to fill a large room. I’m not a big fan of the virtual surround sound unless you install the rear speakers (which I don’t have) but the standard modes are brilliant, crisp and detailed with plenty of easy-to-use functionality both on the remote and the on-screen interface. This pairs brilliantly with my sony X900F TV and Xbox One X... all the remotes sync and they all respond to Xbox controls when powered on. I returned the new Samsung N850 and exchanged it for this and completely happy that I did even though the Samsung was much bigger, almost 3X the weight and # of speakers as the Sony, and had a wider sound field and more hi-fidelity upper range and clarity... the Sony has a more balanced sound, tighter and more punchy bass, and most importantly functions flawlessly and is easy to use and interface with... where the Samsungwas a nightmare to use, no interface, difficult oversimplified remote requiring digging through a horrible manual to figure out how to activate “hidden” features that don’t even work, and terrible Bluetooth pairing and connectivity issues. The slightly better high end clarity, power and upward firing speakers on the Samsung were more than offset by the Sony’s better performance, functionality, reliability and feature set.

I really like the Sony soundbar. It doesn't allow changing of treble or bass but provides nice sound for movies and music. It is much better than the tv sound. There is good bass from the sub. I eventually bought the side speakers to go along with this soundbar and it makes the surround sound much better. I recommend both.

Going over the reviews I was a little skeptical as to this sound bar especially for the price. It’s not a huge purchase but it’s big enough to hurt your pockets if it goes wrong. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks but I’ve really enjoyed the sound this thing puts out. I purchased the Sony X900h and was a little disappointed with sound produced by the TV alone, especially with my living room being open concept the noise coming out of the TV just wasn’t cutting it. The install is simple and fast as the hardest part is getting behind the TV. The sound quality is great and it does give an immersive feel with the right content, albeit not as good as a full 7.1.2 system but the price kinda tells you that too. CONS: one of my biggest gripes with this sound bar is this terribly irritating cutting out of sound for approx 10-30 seconds as if someone hit the mute button this would happen once or twice around every 2 hours so I could go threw a full movie without this happening. Going to the forums you can find out of other issues that seem to have been resolved with an update made before I purchased mine so I can’t comment on those issues. The fix that I found for the intermittent loss of sound was as simple as changing the HDMI cable that is provided by Sony. I guess they were trying to save a couple $$ by skimping out on a good quality HDMI.

This unit it great, but to get the most out of it you need to add the rear speakers and then it is exceptional. It is easy to set up and customize for the room size and materials. The only issue I have with it is, that it should include the rear speakers as part of the package. As a 3.1 it's good, but it really shines with the rear speakers.

Wow all i can say is WOW i also got the rear speakers and now i can clearly hear the speakers on the shows instead of struggling because of the background noises and music FANTASTIC PRODUCT highly recommend Be advised the rear speakers from Sony only work with this sound bar You can change from cinema sound to news to many others Clear sound and easy set up

This Sony 3.1 Ch Hi-Res sound bar with wireless subwoofer is hands down, one of the awesomest pieces of audio equipment I've ever owned! Great sound, treble, midrange, voice and bass, blend together, to create theater like sound, just about flawlessly!!!! Whether you listening to it watching a movie, sporting event, your favorite audio streaming app or have a device connected via bluetooth! Great product, very pleased!

We got this sound bar as an open-box purchase and while in overall great shape had a number of errant parts & foam packing degradation. On the actual sound bar the only problem was one power prong being badly bent. I managed to carefully fix that and had no problems since. The audio quality took a bit to get used to after using a top line Sony sound bar from 7 years ago. We thought that was high quality but this one is off the chart from that. However, it required setting tweaks after setting up the ARC connection to our new Sony A9 MASTER TV. Originally sounds were very tinny and metallic sounding or trying to simulate surround sound with only the bar. Once properly set up this thing has been a dream and all controlled from the TV! Barely had to use the remote that came with the sound bar, yet it is a very helpful remote to have around still. Simply, with some tech savvy setup this sound bar is truly with it.
