Not worth the money as vertical surround didnt wor

The vertical surround sound felt like a joke. Even the demo they have didn’t create any impression of vertical sound. The demo has the sounds of fireworks and airplanes which i believe is to “demo” how the speaker does the vertical spatialization but it fails. I have a low ceiling small room dedicated for movie watching and this couldn’t deliver any impact. The other major issue was that the subwoofer and surrounds were dropping connection frequently even though the link light stayed on. Tried all the troubleshooting steps in the user guide and Sony website But nothing helped.

We're so sorry to hear our HTZ9F did not meet your expectations. Some of this issue happened if the soundbar is not setup correctly. The HT-Z9F features customizable speaker settings where you can set the speaker distance from 0 ft to 33 ft for much richer sound quality. You can raise the soundbar's level and subwoofer an additional 6 dB in the user interface menu. This will allow you to fully experience the rumbling lows during explosions of a movie and the string instruments' clarity during an orchestral performance.

We're also sorry to hear you're having a connection problem between your soundbar and wireless subwoofer & rear speakers. There are some things we’d like for you to try and see if we can resolve your audio cut off.
First, verify the HDMI cables you are using are rated for high speed and are at least 18 Gbps cables. Try replacing them if you have not. Next, ensure CEC control is enabled on the soundbar and your TV. You’ll need to refer to your TV manual, and for the soundbar, it’s on page 64 of this link https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4727/d3668cdaf4f83107b52ee9bdb84fa5a0/47275331M.pdf. We’re not sure which brand of TV you have your soundbar connected to; however, please ensure both are on the latest firmware. For the soundbar, please follow the steps provided on this link to update its firmware to the latest version (2.315) https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/downloads.
Please ensure that any WiFi router or modem is placed away from your audio, as they may cause interference with the operation of your soundbar and speakers.
You can also try this procedure in case the drop off is being caused by wireless interference within your home: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/home-theater-sound-bars-home-theater-systems/ht-z9f/articles/00200429.
When doing this RF Channel procedure, please ensure the connection process takes 1 minute to connect. If the connection process takes less than 15 seconds, repeat the operation a second time. Sony really missed the mark with this $699 Soundbar combo. 1st ... The sound is very high pitched, clear voice strains at low volume and you have to elevate rather high to make out the sound, at which point it is too loud. It does matter if your streaming from Cable, BR-DVD, Firestick, AppleTV ... it all sounds about the same. With most comparable sound bars in this price range the Sony only having 3 speakers opposed to 5-7 from the competition it is evident why/how they failed. 2nd the subwoofer is barely loud enough. If you like a good thump or want some bass to fill your space ... look elsewhere. This is not the unit for you! Adjusting it to the highest value it pops and cuts out. If I had to actually weigh this in and cost compare with quality I would rate it 1 star and suggest they price this around $199. The only thing I do have positive to say is that the build quality and materials used is on point with what you feel like a $699 system should be. They should have done some more work on the soundbar DSP and added in a few more speakers for clairity, additionally they should have also doubled the amp output wattage in the subwoofer and upgraded it to an 8” or 10”. Again look elsewhere. JBL makes a better unit for 1/2 the price. The Polk Max or even LG with Meridian speakers (sub is low quality though). The Definitive Technology would be a tie for 3rd in this $399-$699 price range.

While we are glad that you like the build quality and material of the soundbar, we regret to hear that we were able to meet your expectations with the sound. We'd like to help and make this a better experience. Adjusting the sound quality and sound effects that are tailored to different kinds of sound sources may help you to enjoy more of the sound. As far as your experience with the bass sound, if the input sources contain very little bass sound components (i.e., a TV broadcast), the sound from the subwoofer may be difficult to hear. Please try of these solutions if no sound or only a very low-level
sound is heard from the subwoofer.
Press SW volume + on the remote control to increase the subwoofer volume.
Make sure that the power indicator on the subwoofer is lit in green.
Set the night mode to off.
Play the test tone or sample music to verify if any sound is coming out of the subwoofer:
- Press the HOME button on the remote control.
- Select Setup.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select Speaker Settings.
- Select Manual Speaker Settings.
- Select Test Tone, and then select On.
Note: Select Off to end playback of Test Tone.
