Sony really missed the mark with this $699 Soundbar combo. 1st ... The sound is very high pitched, clear voice strains at low volume and you have to elevate rather high to make out the sound, at which point it is too loud. It does matter if your streaming from Cable, BR-DVD, Firestick, AppleTV ... it all sounds about the same. With most comparable sound bars in this price range the Sony only having 3 speakers opposed to 5-7 from the competition it is evident why/how they failed. 2nd the subwoofer is barely loud enough. If you like a good thump or want some bass to fill your space ... look elsewhere. This is not the unit for you! Adjusting it to the highest value it pops and cuts out. If I had to actually weigh this in and cost compare with quality I would rate it 1 star and suggest they price this around $199. The only thing I do have positive to say is that the build quality and materials used is on point with what you feel like a $699 system should be. They should have done some more work on the soundbar DSP and added in a few more speakers for clairity, additionally they should have also doubled the amp output wattage in the subwoofer and upgraded it to an 8” or 10”. Again look elsewhere. JBL makes a better unit for 1/2 the price. The Polk Max or even LG with Meridian speakers (sub is low quality though). The Definitive Technology would be a tie for 3rd in this $399-$699 price range.

Thank you for sharing your experience with the HTZ9F. While we are glad that you like the build quality and material of the soundbar, we regret to hear that we were able to meet your expectations with the sound. We'd like to help and make this a better experience. Adjusting the sound quality and sound effects that are tailored to different kinds of sound sources may help you to enjoy more of the sound. As far as your experience with the bass sound, if the input sources contain very little bass sound components (i.e., a TV broadcast), the sound from the subwoofer may be difficult to hear. Please try of these solutions if no sound or only a very low-level
sound is heard from the subwoofer.
Press SW volume + on the remote control to increase the subwoofer volume.
Make sure that the power indicator on the subwoofer is lit in green.
Set the night mode to off.
Play the test tone or sample music to verify if any sound is coming out of the subwoofer:
- Press the HOME button on the remote control.
- Select Setup.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select Speaker Settings.
- Select Manual Speaker Settings.
- Select Test Tone, and then select On.
Note: Select Off to end playback of Test Tone.
