Gave it the good ole “college try,” the design and hand feel were very innovative and forward thinking, specially the tap controls (which also has some negatives). The fit of the bud however was not good whatsoever, tried every single wing that it came with and it did not help keep the ear buds in place. Also bud placement was very weird (pretty sure my ears are just a bit too large for these buds). Sound was good however to get a good range of sound you had to raise the volume a good amount which basically took away the ability to hear outside noises…
This would be a good pair of buds for an office setting, would not recommend for outdoor use.

Hi SkyCap,
We're glad that you like the design of the headphones. It's unfortunate that the LinkBuds were already returned. For optimum fit and comfort, the headphones must be worn properly. You can also enjoy the correct sound qualities when wearing the headphones properly. Steps are available on the Help Guide of the unit:
Wide area tap is a function that detects vibration around the ears with the acceleration sensors that are built into the headset and determines the tap operations. Therefore, it may be erroneously detected as tapped by actions such as putting on or taking off surgical masks or glasses, and chewing. If the headset often does not operate correctly, this may be improved by using the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app to turn wide area tap off and switch to headset tap instead.
Thanks for sharing your review and we hope you consider Sony in your future purchase.
Regards, -Ralph

Audio is nice but not 180 dollars nice. Only gets worse from there. The fit is terrible for people with small ears even with the smallest stabilizer tips they give you.
The concept is great, but just poorly executed.

These earbuds were good for workouts because it allowed me to hear whats going on around me while im working out. However they ocassionally fell outbof my ear no matter what ear attachment i used. After 1.5 years one of the earbuds lost its charge much faster than the other to the point it would only last 15 min. Nice product but didnt last as long as i liked.

1st positives. The sound was better than expected for an open back earphone. Once you find the correct little rubber attachment, They fit very well and don't fall out.
I'm a disappointed because I purchased these to be able to use in the office. The battery life was a big disappointment however. They are good for a few hours then they give you a notification that they need to be charged. The one handy thing is the case does charge them charge them pretty quickly. They might be great if you're buying them for a working out. They couldn't cut it when it came to wearing them around the office all day. For the price you would think the battery would be better.

One of the most comfortable earbuds i have ever tried. It almost feels as if im not wearing them, very light and small case. The open back sound is great, and I can comfortably talk to someone while hearing music at a lower volume. Now, one thing that I really hope for a future update, is for customization of the which tap can be grouped together; for example, I use mainly one earbud at a time, It would be so beneficial for me to have grouped the pause/play and skip track/back track one earbud, but that one require 1 tap for pause/play, 2 taps for skip, and 3 taps for backtrack. I listen to audiobooks, and sometimes I have to backtrack 30 seconds to re listen to a part. Maybe, another alternative is to allow us to customize which function can for each tap; for example, pause/play 2 taps with backtrack 3 taps, instead of skip track for us audiobook listeners.
Pros:
Very light and minimalistic look
Small compact case
Quick charge
Donut design works better than artificial transparency mode on competing earbuds
Wide tap area is flawless
Cons:
Low battery life
Customize options for taps (really needs to be evaluated by Sony, as this could be make it or break it for some buyers)

I do not like earbuds that are inserted in the canal and blocks noise. I don’t find them comfortable so I was excited to learn about these earbuds. For several years, I’ve used two pairs of wireless headphones: AirPods 2 for everything but exercise and planatronics backfit for exercise. I’ve been needing to replace the backfits so I gave these a try.
First the good. The fit and sound are good although I prefer the sound and fit of my AirPods 2. I can wear these and they don’t fall out. I had to change the fins for the right fit but it comes with many sizes and are easy to switch out. For me, these get plenty loud and remains clear even when loud. I also really like that they use usbc.
Now the not so good. The gestures/taps are very sensitive. I accidentally made the taps enough times that I turned them off. With the exception of the sound and fit, it feels like for a $180 product, Sony really cheaped out. It does not feel like a premium product at all. The plastic feels really cheap. The case is a nice size but it has a button to open it and requires two hands to open. It is a little annoying because you have to press it just right. I also wished that the doughnut speaker part was more of a rubber or a silicon than hard plastic.
Despite the cons, I am keeping these because no one else is making a non in canal earbud that stays put during exercise and I recommend it for anyone that want an open earbud. The reason for 3 stars is that $180 is too high for this product. The perceived quality is no where close to other wireless earbuds at that price point and those even much cheaper.

Hi Austriak,
Thank you for the feedback on your experience with your LinkBuds Truly Wireless Earbuds. It's unfortunate to learn you've been running into some issues, particularly with the headset reacts incorrectly or works unintentionally.
Your LinkBuds are not only designed to be stylish but also with the environment in mind, using recycled plastic materials for aesthetic parts and plastic-free packaging. The LinkBuds use recycled plastic materials from automobile parts (Coating and adhesive materials excluded).

Stay authentically connected to everyday life while listening to music, taking calls, gaming, and more, all with dynamic sound. They sound decent when they properly fit. When they don't, they sound low. There is always a worry of them falling out your ear. The other issue i would have is phantom presses. Sometimes when eating or talking the mere movement of my mouth would cause the unit to signal a double or triple press causing what I'm listening to to stop or skip tracks. Also when i try adjusting them, the samething would happen. Speaking of which, when using the app to remap the buttons, it never seemed to work. The headphones would always stay at the default layout. I think i felt more confident with the Buds Live.

Hello FHarv,
Thank you for your review. We sincerely regret that you are having issues with your LinkBuds. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have on our premium headphones.
Note: M-sized fitting supporters come attached to the left and right units of the headset at the time of purchase. If you feel the size of the fitting supporters does not fit your ears, change the fitting supporters to another size that fits your ears better. The size of the left and right fitting supporters may be different.
And for the issue with the wide area tap function, the LinkBuds may not operate correctly when a vibration identical to a tap is detected from coughing or the attachment/detachment of accessories around the ears, chewing, etc. When the headset reacts incorrectly, you can use the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app to turn wide area tap off and switch to headset tap. When they fit, they aren't bad. Unfortunately I wear weighted gauged earrings. That extra tugging on my earlobes means these buds will never fit my ears. The sound is good, and these do exactly what they advertise. The only alternatives are openfits by shokz, which don't fit in my pockets. I like the concept so I can wear these at work and be aware of what's going on. Passthrough on other ear buds picks up wind and other unwanted noise.
But this is what I'm not a fan of with Sony headphones: you need to download fourth party apps to get the best sound stage. You can't get all the sound customization without downloading these apps. Such ideas made sense when Sony's were the best of the best and they had the title and following to do such things. Now it's just annoying really. The Sony app should give me the control I want on these headphones and make updates on the device easier. Don't make me download another app or two to make it work. If you update these headphones they get multipoint, which is lovely and great. The controls are easy and done well. It's the fit and the app that made me knock it down to two stars. The theory of these are great. The application and execution are where these failed. It's unfortunately a product I really wanted to like too. Disappointed.

Hi Studiotk4,
While were glad that you like the incredible audio, we're sorry to hear you are having problems with the LinkBuds, particularly with the fit. The LinkBuds may fall out or feel uncomfortable during use if you don't wear the LinkBuds properly or the ear fitting supporters are not correct for your ears. We also understand that not everyone likes the Sony headphones connect app and we appreciate your feedback. You can use them without downloading the Sony headphones connect app, however, to get the most out of your LinkBuds, downloading the Sony Headphones Connect App allows you to customize audio settings with your headphones.
Using these open-ear headphones with weighted gauged earrings might interfere depending on the size of the stretched ears or gauge weights. Good thing is that these headphones comes with multiple fitting supporters that fits your ears better and feel more comfortable. The size of the left and right fitting supporters may be different. We recommend starting with the larger sizes and working your way down to the smaller sizes until you find the best fit. Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears. We have a recommended way of wearing these open-ear headphones. Please make sure to follow the guide from these links:

Not getting a 5 star because my left earbud got blown when I'm not aware of any instance of stressing them out, so make sure to keep them below 70%. Good quality earbuds that offer no seal but good sound quality. Would suggest using this if you need to be in a place where people talk to you often but you still want to listen to music. If the sale is right get the Linkbuds S instead in my opinion.

Good sounding Bluetooth earbuds. How much benefit the holes themselves provide is hard to say, but the LinkBuds certainly provide a similar audio feel to open back headphones.
After a year and a half of use, the left earbud battery is unable to hold a charge.
It's past warranty so I'll have to purchase a replacement which I'm willing to do since I like them enough. But if the battery fails again, that may be the last time.

Hi MichaelH,
While we are glad you like the open-ear design and sound quality, we're sorry to hear you're having an issue with the unit. We appreciate the feedback regarding the left earbud not charging properly. We’d love to help you troubleshoot your problem. If the left earbud does not charge properly, wipe the charging terminals on the headset and charging case with a dry soft cloth (such as those used for eyeglasses). We recommend that you regularly clean the terminals for good charging connections.

Was really excited for a new form factor in headphones. But they are barely loud enough for use out side. They also were not very confortsble i always felt like inhad them wrong. But they did not ever fall out. They felt like the old sony turbo headphones they used to make with walkman so many years ago. The sound was also very nice with mid and high frequency but lacking in bass by alot. But walking even out side the sound could not keep up even with a passing car.

Hi XgeeioX, we are sorry to hear that the WFL900 did not meet all of your expectations when it comes to sound quality and comfort. To get the best comfort fit for you, please try a different fitting supporter to get a more comfortable fit. Also, please check our help guide link on how to find a more comfort fit https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/linkbuds/v1/en/index.html.
Please note that the size of the left and right fitting supporters may be different. If the headset is not worn properly in your ears you may not obtain the correct sound qualities or call performance. If the part of the headset where sound is output is not oriented correctly toward the ear canal, the sound quality may sound poor or the left and right sound localization may sound misaligned.
For the sound quality, please check our help guide link to isolate and troubleshoot the issue: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/linkbuds/v1/en/contents/TP1000445760.html

Open back in ear headphones sound really strange at first, but these do what i want the active audio passthrough to do on my Pixel Buds Pro. Great sudio quality with the added benefit of hearing my surroundings is absolutely blessed! The only reason i give it 4/5 stars is because of the fit and feel. They fit in the ears okay, but they feel like plastic resting in your ear. Depending on who you are, you wont notice it as much.

Unique design makes for a pleasant experience. Setup was easy, buds are comfortable and secure after some trial and error with the provided interchangeable mold sizes. Good sound, not the best considering their design, but that's the trade off for being able to be more present in you surroundings. Good battery life, though wireless charging for the case would be nice, but not a deal breaker. Do love the compact size of the case, though.

Truly something different. They sound fantastic considering how small and light they are. Very comfortable. Its nice to be able to walk outside or go on a hike and just have background music but still be able to hear everything else normally. Obviously other headphones can sound better but these have a different goal in mind. Not a ton of bass but again, they are non sealing earbuds... they have what youd expect them to have

Really interesting design, these are great if you need to be aware of your surroundings while using. Sound quality is great, but lows suffer due to the design of the drivers. Hi Disappointed,
We're sorry to hear you've been running into some issues, particularly with the headset reacts incorrectly or works unintentionally. Wide area tap is a function that detects vibration around the ears with the acceleration sensors that are built into the headset and determines the tap operations. Therefore, it may be erroneously detected as tapped by actions such as putting on or taking off surgical masks or glasses, and chewing. If the headset often does not operate correctly, this may be improved by using the “Sony Headphones Connect” app to turn wide area tap off and switch to headset tap instead.
The all-new Sony LinkBuds feature a comfortable open-ring design that naturally blends ambient sound with digital sound. The LinkBuds may fall out or feel uncomfortable during use if you don't wear the LinkBuds properly or the ear fitting supporters are not correct for your ears.
• Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears. • If you feel the size of the fitting supporters does not fit your ears, change the fitting supporters to another size that fits your ears better. • After attaching the fitting supporter, check that there is no movement on the LinkBuds. (Shake your head back and forth.) Note: If they fall off or move in your ears when you shake your head, select a different size. The best fitting supporter may be different for each ear. • If you wear the headset for a long time, your ears may start hurting. Use the headset while taking breaks periodically. Hi there,
Thank you for your review.
We are really sorry if the battery life(out of the box) and fit of our WF-L900 LinkBuds didn't live up to your expectations- and that it had to be returned. This is definitely not news we'd like to hear from you.
For the battery life, if the linkbuds is not used for a long time, the available operating hours may be reduced. This is not a malfunction and is part of the normal operation of the headphones. Thus, we always recommend to fully charge the headphones after getting them out of the box so you can use them up to 5.5 hours. However, the usage hours may be different depending on the settings for the headset functions and usage conditions. ref: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/linkbuds/v1/en/contents/TP1000447703.html?search=battery
These LinkBuds combine a shape that perfectly matches the human ear with an ergonomic design for a more stable fit. For optimum performance, comfort, and to keep the LinkBuds from falling out, we always recommend following the steps on this article: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/linkbuds/v1/en/contents/TP1000445573.html
We really appreciate you & your feedback, and we are hoping that you will consider Sony again on your future purchase.
Sincerely,
Romeo

After getting used to the placement in the ear, I like the fit but will fall out with a lot of movement or naturally fall out over time. I like the ability to hear around you, but the trade off is a lack of low end bass. The tap features are cool, but will activate unintentionally while talking or eating. Limited functionality for tap settings. Right bud failed after 8 months.

Hi Jerry,
While we're delighted you like most of the functions, especially the open-ring design, we're sorry to learn if they tend to move in your ears with a lot of movement causing them to fall out and the right earbud doesn't work properly. The tap detection function, Bluetooth pairing, or sound quality can be affected if you don't wear the LinkBuds properly or the ear fitting supporters are not correct for your ears. They may also fall out or feel uncomfortable during use.
• Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears. • Select a different size fitting supporter and align the protruding part of the LinkBud with the cutout on the fitting supporter. Make sure to insert the fitting supporter completely. • After attaching the fitting supporter, check that there is no movement on the LinkBuds. (Shake your head back and forth.) Note: If they fall off or move in your ears when you shake your head, select a different size. The best fitting supporter may be different for each ear.

The sound was ok, due to the opening the sound doesn't get loud but sound was good. They fit pretty well and have different fittings but the worst thing is that the plastic cover that sits against your ear will hurt it feels like it cuts your ear. Battery life is a joke on a full charge overall wouldn't recommend these

Hi Thoryl,
While we're glad that you like the good sound quality and fit of the unit, we're so sorry to hear if an earache occurs when putting on our WF-L900 LinkBuds and the available operating time is short or the battery power does not last long. This is definitely not the customer experience we want you to have. We recommend to try the following if an earache occurs:
• Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears. • If you feel the size of the fitting supporters does not fit your ears, change the fitting supporters to another size that fits your ears better. • If you wear the headset for a long time, your ears may start hurting. Use the headset while taking breaks periodically. For reasons why your ears may hurt when putting on or wearing headphones, you may also find this article helpful: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wf-l900/articles/00015243
For available operating time of the unit, depending on the settings for the headset functions and usage conditions, the speed of energy consumption for the rechargeable battery may vary between the left and right units. However, this is not a malfunction. For your reference, you may check this link: https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/linkbuds/v1/en/contents/TP1000765297.html

I’ve had these for nearly a year. I use them everyday. I do like that they have a lot of software updates, audio eq options and perks of pausing when talking and auto playing when I stop.
They have decent battery life. I wish they had wireless charging! Anyways, I use them on campus a lot and sometimes get irritated that I can still hear conversations when I want to listen to my recorded lectures.
I noticed that after about 7 months the quality started to decline.
I thought it may be a build up of earwax and noticed the tiny pin holes were clogged. I cleaned them and noticed no difference in audio quality.
After a month from cleaning the audio started to crack and pop while listening to music and not at a high volume.
I reset the earbuds and contacted Sony. I’m not sending them for replacement as they are inside the year warranty.
If you like to hear outside your bubble these are perfect. If you don’t mind having to charge them wired that’s great too. The updates and other software perks make the earbuds very competitive, but if you want that boom bass these aren’t for you. Great for listening to audiobooks recorded lectures, and music at reasonable volume.

Hi RyanB,
Thank you for taking your time in sharing this honest review. While we're glad you like the speak-to-chat, good battery life, and built-in equalizer with the app, we're sorry to hear that you're experiencing audio issues. Make sure to update the headphones' software to the latest version. Doing so may resolve the issue. If noise is heard during music playback, follow these links to troubleshoot the issue:
These do not include wireless charging and noise canceling feature. However, they do feature a comfortable open-ring design that naturally blends ambient sound with digital sound and advanced features like Wide Area Tap, Adaptive Volume Control, Speak to Chat, Control with your voice, and more. If you hear buzzing, popping, crackling, or vibration noises from your Bluetooth® headphones that sound different than the more common static or distortion sounds caused by environmental interference issues, contact the Product Support team.
