The sound is surprisingly full but there are some downsides. There is no shielding so the cords do cause a lot of noise in the ear while in use. If you are buying for use in an active environment or while exercising look elsewhere. If using while sitting these will work well. For my ear the provided cups form a good seal and do block out a lot of outside noise. Also they do not feel loose or poor quality.

These are durable yet inexpensive, lasting a good long time. Great sound as Sony seems to have mastered portable music long ago.
