Ear cups cover material flaking away!

Pack small, light, and works great on airplanes. Bought them 3 years ago for a long flight and was very pleased. Had another long flight this year Performances were still very good for the price, but the set was completely unusable because the ear cup cover material decomposed. There were little plastic flakes all over my ears, shirt, seat and flight blanket. Good product dying because of poor material. I live in a hot and humid climat, it may do better in colder/drier conditions. Interestingly, I had bought these to replace an older pair of Sony's , even smaller but older technology, that lasted many years but ended up with the ear cup material delaminating. But at least got to use these on several flights, not so with the MDRZX110NC.. Seems to be a recurring issue with Sony's. Disappointed.

I was surprised to find noise-canceling headphones for $50, especially with Sony's name on the side. As someone who has owned Bose noise-canceling headphones for many years, I wanted to get my 11 year old daughter some noise-cancelling headphones for her trip across the country. I didn't want to spend Bose-like money as she takes care of things about as well as most 11 year olds. I figured these were Sony, so although my expectations weren't that great due to the low price point, I figured they wouldn't be too horrible. Well, I was wrong. These are obviously re-labled junk headphones that Sony puts their name on in order to have an entry-level product. Complete garbage. I would not be exaggerating to say they're of similar quality to the "free" earbuds some of the airlines give you. They really are that bad. Garbage plastic, garbage wiring, terrible sound, just junk all around. I'm actually surprised Best Buy would stock these in their store. I expect a certain level of quality when I think of Best Buy.

    Didn't Cancel Outside Noise

Returned this item before I was even out of the Best Buy parking lot! Didn't cancel outside noises (even with battery installed) and I could NEVER wear these for more than 30 minutes and I needed them for most of the day wear. Very uncomfortable on top of the head and on ears. These are padded but don't fit OVER the ears completely, they sit ON your ears. I spent an extra $50 on a headset by SkullCandy that weren't sold as noise-cancelling but were much better quality (still cheaper than other noise-cancelling sets) and I can wear them all day -- and they sound great. Don't buy this product unless you only need something for short periods of time, your outside noises aren't very loud and you have to have something super foldable/collapsable.

Hi Kristin, Thank you for posting your concern. The noise canceling function is effective in low-frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, or offices (near air-conditioning, etc.) and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. Your feedback will also be forwarded to the proper department to improve the quality of our products. -Jerome sony_US

I bought these before taking an 8 hr flight to Europe. Please Note; these are on-ear headphones! I put the AAA batteries in, turned the noise cancelling switch to ON and it only got a little louder.... The engines were just as loud with the switch off. You will still hear people even when you have a higher quality pair due to the way noise cancelling works. I was focusing on the engine noise to get a little quieter but there was no change what-so-ever. When you have your feet on the ground they're okay headphones. Not the best but they're okay. My recommendation is if you're looking to fly, look into the next model up. If its a gift or you have kids this is better suited towards them.

I am so disappointed in these headphones. I had over the ear Sony noise canceling headphones from Best Buy that were about 10 years old and were stolen. They worked beautifully, so I decided to buy a replacement. I saw the price at Best Buy and it was only about a third of what the old ones cost, but I thought, maybe they had just come down in price since they were corded (vs the newer wireless). Boy was I wrong!!! Not only do they NOT fit over year ears, but they are horrible at cancelling out aircraft nose. I have taken four flights and quite frankly could just assume wear ear buds and get better clarity. They are fine if you are in a library - not on an aircraft! Spend the extra money to get good headphones.

I used these headphones for a day before returning them. They feel flimsy, are made out of a very cheap plastic and are incredibly uncomfortable. They're on the ear as opposed to over the ear so I couldn't bear to use them for anything over an hour. The sound quality is sub-par at best. I usually love Sony products but I used these once and immediately repacked them. They just feel cheap. I'd say save up and spend a bit more for a pair of quality headphones that leave your ears begging for more. Bose may be overpriced and overrated but all in all, their headphones are still the absolute best. Just my opinion!

These had great bass at the expense of the highs and mids. If you are someone who listens to Hip Hop, maybe these might work for you, but these are terrible and so are all of the XB (Xtra Bass) Sony headphones such as XB550, XB650 and XB950, all of which I tried and heard the same dead sound with very little highs or mids. I ended up buying the Sony WH-1000XM2 and they sound great but they have an issue with the headband cracking. Not sure what happened to SONY, but their designers are no longer cutting edge.

Barely cancel noise and make your ears hurt

    Posted
    Richhom13

Bought these headphones to study. It feels like they only kick up the bass and make the sound louder and clearer but don't really cancel that much noise. The best they cancel out would be light tapping or whispering. They only partially cover your ears so your ears hurt after 20 min of wearing them. The batteries also don't last that long. About 10 hours like the other review said sounds accurate. For the price, I would just recommend getting a pair of nice headphones and not these for the sake of them being "noise canceling".

    NOT over-ear!

Was looking for low cost, over-ear noise cancelling headphones and found these Sony's with good reviews. When I picked up the order, the box seemed oddly small for over-ear headphones. My suspicions were confirmed when I unpacked them and tried them on. These are not even close to over-ear as described! These are an on-ear design all day long- and uncomfortable ones at that. Very disappointed in Best Buy for allowing an inaccurate description which, ultimately, wasted my time.

I purchased these for the purpose of using them on a flight I will be taking soon. I didn't look through all of them but figured these would be good enough since they're noise-cancelling and Sony's a pretty decent name in the audio scene. I was thoroughly disappointed in the sound quality! It was very tinny and overall just not enjoyable, very weak and cheap sound especially coming from Sony. Pretty disappointing, I'll be sticking to Skullcandy!

I returned these as soon as I was able to try them out at home. I put in the battery and turned it on. It didn't cancel *any* noise. Ambient noise sounded exactly the same whether it was turned on or off. I think you have to spend a lot in order to get high quality, noise-cancelling headphones.

this was my second pair. I used a lot of glue on the first pair to keep the ear cover in place. Finally gave up. Purchased a second pair thinking it was just a bad pair. The second pair last a day before the ear cover was found on the floor of the gym. There will not be a third pair. Best Buy refunded the purchase price on the second pair.

I decided to try something other than the industry go to of Bose for NC. The sound from the Bose isn't perfect so why not try these Sony's? Immediately, I was unimpressed by the build quality, then came the sound quality, then the NC. I have a pair of the QC35's and they are leaps and bounds better than these in every benchmark.

I bought this trusting the description from the Best Buy website and my previous experience with Sony products. Sony is a great brand but they made a mistake on putting their name behind this design. The noise cancelling is minimal and you have to blast the music to avoid the external noise. Definitely not to be use on an airplane.

They sound bad, and they are super not comfortable. They also require a battery, which for wired headphones is kinda a bummer.
