    Disappointing Performance from Quality Brand

These Sony noise-cancelling headphones are a classic case of "you get what you pay for..." The Good: 1. Can listen to audio when the noise cancelling feature is turned off 2. While the noise cancelling isn't as good as some high-dollar headphones, it is pretty effective. 3. Sound quality is good (when the noise cancelling is turned on) The Not Good 1. The Best Buy website calls these "over-the-ear" headphones. Unless your ears are the size of quarters, these are more like "on-the-ear" headphones 2. Sound quality is noticeably muffled when noise cancelling is turned off 3. Cord is less then 3-feet long 4. Batteries only last around 10 hours. While that isn't horrible, it isn't great either. 5. No microphone or remote for answering calls

Bought these because I couldn't justify spending $300 on the Bose QC25s. After wearing these for one international trip I decided that it is probably worth the $$$ to get the Bose. They worked ok on the plane both in sound quality and engine noise reduction (this is the only sound they cancel out). You have to turn the volume up pretty loud to overcome all the other sounds. They did little to nothing in blocking the snoring of the guy in the seat in front of me. Another serious issue is that they are ON EAR. After one movie I had to take them off because my ears hurt. Over ear is the only way to go. These only reduce about 20dbs of air plane engine sound as compared to the active noise cancellation (up to 3x the amount of dbs canx'd) they Bose have. Plus they don't come with a case so if you toss them in your backpack they have a very real chance of breaking.

In this case you really do get what you pay for. I have a pair of Bose QC35 noise-cancelling headphones and my wife wanted a pair for our 11-hour airline flight recently so she got these to try. While they allowed her to listen to music & watch movies on the plane with a little noise cancellation benefit, they were nowhere near as effective as the Bose headphones. She tried my Bose and didn't want to give them back to me because of how much better they worked and how much quieter the ambient noise was. These Sony headphones will allow you to listen to music and may provide a little better noise cancellation than standard ear buds, but don't expect that they will drown out even half of the ambient noise. If you want true noise cancellation, go for the Bose or Beats.

    Disappointing

Based on the product reviews, I was excited to try out these headphones for office use. I was disappointing to find that the audio quality was fairly poor. In addition, they do not isolate sound very well. That is, music being played through the headphones will start to bleed when volume is at a normal listening level. If you're just looking for a cheap pair of noise isolating headphones, I guess these might be for you... For office use, I would not recommend. I do appreciate that these headphones are better for long term use. They're more comfortable on my ears than in-ear headphones. They're also much better for your ears, as they will not cause damage as easily.

The headset is uncomfortable. The ear muffs are very comfortable, but the headstrap digs into my head (no padding). I had to glue a pad to it so that I could wear it for any length of time. Because the microphone is in the earmuff, I have to speak loudly to be heard. That defeats the purpose of having a headset (privacy and not disturbing those around me who have their own work to do). If I had it to do over, I'd buy a different brand and/or model -- one that is more comfortable and that has better pickup

First of all there is nothing wrong with these less than $60 set of headphones. But... You do get what you pay for. If you want something inexpensive these will do. If you want better noise cancelling and long wearing comfort go for something else. I've used these on over 15 flight legs in all from small regionals to very large jet aircraft. They only really suppress low frequency audible sound. Higher frequencies have no noticeable suppression. The on ear fit gets uncomfortable after a couple hours and allows a lot of noise to simple bleed through.

I bought these to have music while at work (desk job), but I didn't like the sound quality. It was like having a head cold and not hearing right except that's the way they sound. I didn't even bother with the batteries to have the noise cancelation. Just the normal sound quality was wanting. My hubby liked them well enough, so I gave them to him and I ordered Senheiser headphones somewhere else. I wouldn't waste the $. Put your money towards Beats or something else, even a better pair of Sony headphones, just not these.

I was seeking a set of noise-canceling earphones to use while mowing. Most I looked at were far too expensive, so I jumped at the moderate price on these. Unfortunately, in use, they have not proven to be very effective. They just don't fit comfortably and the band across the head only adjusts in one direction, so it never feels even. Once the earpieces are on, they don't stay in place and the whole headset tilts forward. The need to constantly readjust them makes them impractical in actual use. And as they don't stay in place, it makes the question of noise-cancellation moot.

My old noise cancel headphones broke a day before a trip so had to get a replacement and didn’t want to spend too much. Found these and they’re adequate, not great. Sound is fine, mostly used these for listening to tv shows while flying, so for voices these are good. Music not so much. The noise canceling works, again, adequate. I’m using these as a backup pair now.

I bought this headset because ear buds don't stay in my ear canal. This headset was listed as noise reduction. Not the case. It's worse than my earbuds. I purchased this to listen to my music while mowing the lawn. The headset falls off my head when I bend over to empty the lawnmower grass catching bag. I have to turn it up so high to hear over the mower. I then tried the headset on my cell phone. The person on the other end of my phone conversation said the sound is not clear. So I guess I spent $50 on a device that is not useful.

    Battery Death Is Annoying

I bought this for my month long vacation through Europe. It has an on/off switch to activate noise canceling. It tends to trigger the on switch inside a busy carry on bag. Halfway through the continent, the battery died. It still functioned as a headphone but no noise canceling booster. It worked fairly well while it had juice but it's far from what anyone would consider "noise canceling". This works in a pinch but I'm actually going back to throw down for a Bose. You get what you pay for.

In a fairly quiet store / home the sound of these headphones are amazing; however on a plane they are as effective as placing tissues in your ears. Too bulky to not be have any effect on surrounding sounds. If you are looking for something to reduce sound these are not it. So I tried to keep them for just a normal headphone but if you don't s flip the "noise canceling" switch all you get is static. Spend the money and get something more effective. Not recommended

These were a replacement for an old pair of the same Sony Headphones. The original pair were terrific. I was 35,000 feet over the Atlantic when I found that these headphones were useless. Either they don’t work on aircraft background noise, or they don’t work at all. When in a quiet setting they are okay, nothing special

I bought these headphones basically because I could not afford the ones I really wanted which were the Sony 1000 (I think) or the Bose Q35 Noise Cancelling headphones. These were ok for the money, but did not block out the noise as much as I needed them to. But they were decent and my music sounded pretty good through them. I just needed more noise cancelling ability. That's just me.

Cheap plastics and not the most strudy product. Very easy to forget to turn it off and drain the batteries (requires batteries for the operation of the noise cancellation) . However, for its price, it is very difficult to find alternative noise cancelation headphones, although, as said the product is not of the best quality and shouldn't be compared to the $200 noise cancelation headphones

Purchased these for my son, who used these at home for listening to music, youtube, etc...The foam ear cups began to shed after approximately 8 months, ultimately after a year one of the ear pieces stopped working altogether. I would only recommend these if you didn't mind not have a use after more than a year, of one or both sides.

May as well save a few bucks and just get the non-noise canceling ones. I have two other pairs by different manufacturers that actually work - other more expensive brands. You can almost hear a difference....but that may even be wishful thinking. Pay a bit more and get a pair that does some actual noise canceling.

Could tell no difference in being able to hear audio with noise canceling on or off while running a loud hairdryer in a small bathroom. Have a long flight coming up so hope it makes some difference then otherwise ear buds sure take up less carry on space and aren’t any less comfortable

These are only 50 bucks so not bad for the price would I recommend them to someone probably not. They hurt my ears after a while of wearing them. Noise canceling only if you turn up the headphones to like a decent amount. The switch is great at tuning the music for a crisper sound. So over all they're okay.but. Nothing worth writing home about.

I've had problems with these newly purchased headphones and am still in the process of trying to find out if it's the headset or the plug size. My Toshiba port is 3.5mm, but I've been unable to find the flippin specs for the plug size on the Sony product and neither have the tech folks from Best Buy. If they're 1/4" we the consumers need to know that info.
