The Sony PlayStation 5 Media Remote: a small, unassuming device that promises to liberate you from the tyranny of the DualSense controller when all you want to do is watch some streaming goodness. Does it deliver? Mostly, yes.
Let's be real, navigating streaming apps with a game controller is like trying to eat soup with a fork. It's awkward, inefficient, and you're bound to make a mess. The Media Remote, thankfully, solves this problem with its dedicated buttons and streamlined design.
It's compact and comfortable to hold, fitting nicely in the palm of your hand. The button layout is intuitive, with dedicated buttons for popular streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube. It's like having a universal remote for your PS5, but without the endless programming and frustration.
The Bluetooth connectivity is solid, providing a reliable connection without the need for line-of-sight. It's a welcome change from the infrared remotes of yesteryear. You can even control your PS5 from across the room, which is perfect for those moments when you're too comfortable to move.
Now, it's not perfect. The button layout, while intuitive, can feel a bit cramped at times. And the lack of a backlight can be a bit frustrating in a dimly lit room. But these are minor quibbles in an otherwise solid device.
If you're primarily using your PS5 for streaming media, the Media Remote is a worthwhile investment. It simplifies navigation, streamlines your viewing experience, and saves you from the awkwardness of using a game controller. It's like having a dedicated remote for your entertainment hub, and that's a good thing. Just maybe keep a flashlight handy for those late-night viewing sessions.

Absolutely love this universal remote for the PS5. Bought it because my wife didn’t like the remote from the actual tv and I offered this as a solution with its simplicity. Only thing I would suggest is throwing away the batteries that go with the remote they died so quickly and made us think that the remote broke on us

I was looking for an easier way to use my PS5 for watching videos, and this remote met that need. When remotes try to be the jack of all trades, they end up being more annoying than useful. It functions adequately as a media remote.

A great purchase! I was tired of using my DualSense controller to navigate streaming apps and draining the battery, so this was the perfect solution. The remote is lightweight and comfortable to hold, and the dedicated buttons for streaming services like Netflix and YouTube are a huge plus. It's so much easier to kick back and enjoy a movie without fumbling with a bulky controller. The fact that it can also control my TV's volume and power is just the cherry on top. This is an absolute must-have for anyone who uses their PS5 as a media hub!

Purchased the remote so that we could avoid using the controller to stream from Netflix/Disney+/YT. We have children in the home so we also wanted to avoid the controller getting knocked off the couch and etc. We love the remote, it's wonderful when it works and serves its purpose.
But we had to knock off a star because it goes through batteries so quickly - in our experience. We've swapped the battery out 3-4 times and we've only owned it for about 5 months now. We're not using it everyday either, only 3 times a week (if that). We have never had to go through so many batteries for a remote. Maybe we got a dud, but this is our experience. If this remote could be remade into a rechargeable one, we would buy instantly.
Overall would still recommend it because it does everything it's supposed to do when it's fully juiced and has probably saved us from buying a new controller a few times.

Actually really liked the thing. Sony has taken a good step towards putting out a pretty good OEM product at a fair price. Normally I would expect the original manufacturer to sell overpriced accessories but they actually got it right. I bought the remote and the charging station and both are good quality, work without issues, and are priced good. Only con is at night I wish they had put a backlight in the remote because it’s hard to see the buttons when it’s dark. But you can pair the media remote with a smart tv and that way you only need 1 remote control. So no controller, and no tv remote. All buttons work for both the tv and ps5. Recommend!

The PlayStation 5 Media Remote is a convenient accessory for users who frequently stream content on their console. Its lightweight design and intuitive layout make it easy to navigate apps like Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube without needing a DualSense controller. Dedicated media buttons for play/pause, fast forward, and rewind improve the viewing experience, while the built-in shortcuts for popular streaming services add quick access. However, it lacks advanced functionality like voice commands or backlit buttons, which can be inconvenient in low-light settings. Overall, it’s a solid and affordable companion for those who use the PS5 as a media hub.

High quality product by Sony. The controller's overall feel is nice with its textured back and the buttons have a satisfying mushy yet confident "clicky" feel. Pairs easily by accessing PS5's system settings and holding two buttons (PS logo and the hamburger icon) to pair the item. What's even better is that it effortlessly synced with my TV so I can now use it to control my volume and turn on/off my TV. Overall, solid and quality product for the price.
