The reduced price of the retro device is what made me jump on this buy. It is ok, but not great. The 20 or so game selection is questionable, but still includes a couple of my favorites. On pure nostalgia, I will give this a good rating.

Fun retro item. Is better if you put RetroPie on it. If you already have a Raspberry Pi, save the money and unless you want it for the fun retro novelty. I like these systems but they are limited and overpriced out the box. The controllers are really good replicas and very comfortable/responsive.

    Blast from the past

Best Buy had a really good price on this, $29 I think. Some people complain about it being bad but I have played most of the games on it and I don't see any real problems. The audio could be a bit better but it doesn't really detract from the games too much in my opinion. The only game I think I noticed it at all was FF7, but I played that originally on PC with a proper Yamaha GS soundcard which always sounded better than the PS1 version anyway. All in all, at $29 I think it is totally worth it.

This brings back all sorts of nostalgia. I do wish there was a way to unload more games, but I've spent many hours playing the preloaded final fantasy 7 on the original PlayStation form factor.

Okay so first off, it just doesn't hold up to the Nintendo versions of these cheap nostalgic rom players. It doesn't have fan service wrapping or the best game lineups and that will always hold it back. BUT At the price these are now going for (under $30) there's a lot to like esp if you do some youtubing and figure out how to add games to the console. At the price it is a nice little legacy box to keep around some of your favorite games that are harder and harder to find these days.

We bought this on sale, so I am going to review it based on the price we paid. It's a cool little retro console, that does have a nice selection of must-have PSX games. Unfortunately, while it would be a fun way for some people to relive their youth, it does come with a few drawbacks. Namely: 1. Some of the games come in PAL versions, which are arguably inferior to NTSC. 2. There is no way to play your old game CDs or update the game library without jailbreaking the system. 3. The emulation is unfortunately not perfect, which is a shame. Fortunately, if you're willing to dig a bit and dedicate some time to installing custom software on it you can fix the above-mentioned issues and get an awesome little emulation box with an obvious visual cool factor.

I was a little disappointed with the lack of games this thing offered, but it’s definitely a nostalgia piece for someone that had the original PlayStation when it came out. Hopefully Sony can get it right with the PS2 classic.

The PS Classic comes with very well known games, but it's lacking some titles that should have been a must for this system. The controllers feel exactly like the original ones. It's a shame they aren't the Dual Shock controllers as they would have been excellent to use on both the system and a PC (it uses a USB connector). The system itself is very powerful and works very well if you manage to add games to it...

When this system came out at $100, it was no deal. However now that the price has fallen to 20% or 25% of the cost in December, it's a great buy! If you enjoy the first PlayStation system, this is a nice drive down memory lane. Some of the games play great, others are a little off, but for the price how can you go wrong. The controlls are great and over all the system works fine. Again if the price is $50, I would not buy, but for under $25 you can't go wrong!

The Playstation Classic is a flawed mini console. Some of it's main issues are the use of PAL versions of it's games, the lack of a AC plug, a lacking choice of games that at least has some real gems of gaming history, and a not too useful save system (only 1 per game, and easy to get confused if you're saving or canceling the save). But if you're able to get this below the 30 dollar mark, it has some redeeming qualities. The lack of internal security makes it easy to modify into a more useful retro gaming console, the presentation of the system itself and the packaging is nice, two USB controllers, and some good classics even if they're slow due to being from the wrong region (Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 1 for example). If you want something to represent this era of gaming or are curious to try modifying gaming consoles in the vein of the Raspberry pi, then it's a fantastic value when it's under the 30 dollar range.

When this system came out a year ago, it was a major disappointment. However, it was tough not to pick one up for $20. The games that come on the system are kind of lackluster, but with gems like Syphon Filter, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Twisted Metal, and Tekken, there is enough here to warrant a purchase. I would have loved to have seen Crash, Spyro, and Gran Turismo in the library but you'll have to relive those games back on the original PS1.

    A Mediocre Mini Retro Console

The Playstation Classic was definitely worth it at the $20 price point I got it for on sale, but beyond that its very hard to recommend. The emulation itself is just alright, but gets the job done, and the game list is rather lacking. There are some huge hits such as Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, or Final Fantasy VII, and even some hard to find hidden gems like Intelligent Cube but there is some obvious padding in the list. While obviously it is hard to make a list that will please absolutely everyone, there are some odd ball choices that I think could have been swapped with better options. It is also unfortunate that the controllers lack the analog sticks of future revisions. Makes sense since they want to stick to the original launch but still makes it harder/more annoying to play certain 3D titles.

Full disclosure I got this on ridiculous discount so for what I paid $20ish - it's fine and I have very low expectations. Basically if I play it a few times, it's "worth" it but if I paid anywhere near MSRP I would be really really disappointed. The game selection is pretty meh, the graphics are pretty terrible, somehow they seem a LOT worse than I remember them from when I has a PS1. Who knows maybe it's my nostalgia that makes me think the graphics were better than they were... all in all probably only worth it if you really want to play the games included and are OK with the limitations.

First off, the Playstation Classic isn't as bad as people on Youtube make it out to be. Yes some of the games run on PAL and not NTSC which in turn makes those PAL games play at 50 fps. But my biggest complaint is not having the dual analog stick controller for the games. Don't get me wrong, the original playstation controllers are nice and buttons seem nice but I would've like the dual analog sticks. Thats why I couldn't give it 5 out of 5 stars. Everything else about the Sony Playstation Classic is nice.

Great for collectors and those who are nostalgic for classic Playstation games. This doesn't offer much outside of that though. At full price, it is not worth it, but I managed to get it for under $20 so I don't think it was a bad deal.

We bought this for our vacation rental, to give kids something to do when it rains. So far so good! There's a decent selection of games for the price. Lots of memories from my childhood rush back when playing these games. I don't remember the picture being so pixelated, tho. I guess all the new systems really have is spoiled. Highly recommended!

I only bought this for the grand kids. It's worth the $30 I gave for it, but I wouldn't go over that. It works fine, no problems, and seems to be built well. The graphics have literally the same blocky arcade type appearance as the original 80's games. It comes preloaded with 20 games, and that's all you get. Period. It does not stream, and it does not take discs. It ONLY plays the preloaded games. It comes with a USB power cord, but DOES NOT include the power module ( a cell phone charger worked fine for ours ). You must provide your own. Worth $30 I guess.

If you previously owned a PS and fondly remember playing any of the included games, the PS classic is a fun game console to play and return some of the nostalgia. The graphics and controller mechanics don't age well and the younger generations may not see the fun in playing them. The controllers are well built and for shorter play sessions this product is cheaper to buy as a package then to purchase the games individually.

The PlayStation Classic has well designed hardware and a true PS1 look about it. Unfortunately cheaped out a bit by not including a power supply (there's an HDMI and power cable, just no wall transformer) and the game selection is poor. To top this off Sony chose to use PAL titles for some games. PAL is a European television standard that updates the screen 50 times a second verse NTSC here in North America which updates at 60 times per second. The way they corrected for this causes a slowdown in these games. Not noticeable to someone who hasn't played them before but noticeable to many old timers. BUT WAIT! There is hope. If you search on line you will find BleemSync and AutoBleem. These two open source develops allow you to add additional games to PSC using a simple flash drive. Everything happens automatically and the PAL games can be replaced by NTSC versions. This makes the game selection be what you want (e.g. adding Crash Bandicoot) as well as allowing you to play NEC, GEO NEO, and other games using the Retroboot game emulation system. I couldn't be happier with my purchase once I made this addition. Just be sure to read up a bit on line to make sure you know exactly what to use and it will be super easy.
