I think the other person answered everything well. But I just want to add that it's not $7 a month. If you go for the best value, which is 1 year for $50, that's barely over $4 a month. Honestly, I think the service has lost quite a bit of value for newcomers. I say that because there used to be very high quality games on there that would stay on there for a long time like Uncharted 3. Plus, there were always well over 2 games available at any point when it was just the PS3 and Vita. But this wasn't much use to those who had the service for a longer time. And now that the PS4 is in the picture and part of the membership goes towards being able to play games online, I think they've dumbed down the games a bit. It's just personal preference, but I haven't come across a game on the Instant Games Collection that's interested me and is something I haven't played before in months. But if you just like playing a wide variety of games, I'm sure you'll find something to you'll like every month. Just don't expect a bunch of newer, full retail games every month. In short, give it a try for a full year. After a year passes, evaluate what all you got from the service. Count up all the games you claimed and played and see if you got your money's worth.

Joining PS+ is a huge bargain. While you're a member, every month you get free games (2 for PS4, 2 for PS3, 2 for Vita). Even if you just have one console and just get 2 free games a month, after a few months you still get your money back. When a cross buy game is offered, it can result into a bonus free game (If the vita game is cross buy for example, then that becomes a bonus free game for the PS3 or PS4). Membership also gets you discounts every week at the PSN Store. And if you're like me and don't always have time to play the free games, no problem, as long as you activate or add a game to your library, from that point on, you can download and play that game anytime in the future as long as you're a member. The free games are usually a little old or the newest in digital only Indy games, but they often turn out to be quite fun and are worth playing (I'm not a frequent game buyer so I rarely own game if it's an older title, though it has happened). But I've been a member for 3 years now, and every year I've gotten my moneys worth and more so I definitely recommend joining PS+. Join for a year to truly get the benefits. It's worth it!

The reason most of us PlayStation 4 gamers subscribe to the Playstation Plus is to have full access to online play. However, if you ever talk to any of us after a few months, you will know it is the free games that you get every month that make the subscription have that much more value. Each month, Sony offers 1-3 titles free of charge on your PS4. With that being said, this goes also with your PS3 or your Vita as well, which offers different free games. In addition, there is also some discounts to be had that are exclusive to PSPlus members, which you may also find yourself using often on a cool indie title or a recently discounted AAA title. It is basically required, and a great way for you to get yourself or your kids free games the day you bring the console home. RECOMMENDED!!!

Last year I bought the PS+ membership for my nephew, and another for my daughter, after reading many online reviews on several websites. My nephew is a constant gamer, several hours a day, all the newest releases, far more than any human should be staring at a screen. Initially he rolled his eyes, and turned his nose up, at the gift. However once he put in the code and started looking at the site, he texted "best gift ever!" Over the twelve months he downloaded and played over a dozen games, worth several times the cost of the membership. Now that he has upgraded to the PS4, the membership is required for online group play, so it is even better for him. For my daughter and myself we haven't downloaded and played as many games as my nephew, but there are a few, again worth more than the cost of the membership. This year I had no second thought in purchasing a renewal for both accounts. I have, and likely will continue to be very happy with the purchase.

As an owner of a PlayStation 3 and now a PlayStation 4, this has become an essential part of my gaming experience. I was initially hesitant when they announced this Plus upgrade, but after getting a free trial period, it was hard to rationalize going back. For $50, you get at least 24 free games a year. If you have multiple PlayStation systems (any combination of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita), you can get up to 72 free games a year. Considering a full-priced physical game is typically $60 and even independent digital titles usually start only as low as $10, this is just an unrivaled deal in gaming as far as I'm aware. In addition to the free games, you also get more and bigger discounts on digitally released games across all three aforementioned platforms. I strongly recommend this to anyone with or planning to buy a PlayStation system.
