    Go with the PSP-3000

Tech specs are are great, but what really matters is what you'll notice as a customer. I have used the PSP-3000 and PSPGo, and the Go is a rip off at this asking price. Here's why, compared to the PSP-3000 Design - This is one area it improves on. Thanks to the removal of the UMD drive it has a smaller form factor than the PSP-3000. Screen - The size difference between the two is negilable unless you hold them side by side. As far as quality goes the graphics are the same, but the Go has slightly better colors. Games - Because it can only use downloadable games, it's game library is smaller than the PSP-3000. You also never "own" any of the games. If Sony closes the store your games (and the whole system) become useless, whereas you always own a physicall copy. You also cannot trade in digital copies, something that often helps lower the price of new games. And on that point you also can't rent games for this system. Additionally games from the PSN are more expensive, Sony outright said so. Memory - One of the Go's touted features is more memory built in. While this is true You'll need it to store games as well as saves and media, whereas the PSP-3000 only needs to store saves and media. More memory is handy, but being able to use UMDs to store your games will save you a lot. Downloads - The PSP-3000 can access the same store as the PSPGo. Some may be fooled into thinking that they need to get the Go if they want to use the store, but they'd be wrong. The PSP-3000 can access all the games you can download for the Go, plus UMD games. Accessories - The PSPGo will not work with any of the PSP-3000 accessories. Battery - Battery life is about the same on both PSP versions. But the Go lack a changeable battery, so you can't carry a spare to quickly replace it if it dies on you. With Sony stating they'll continue to support both the Go and 3000, I think the 3000 clearly offers more. While the design is arguably better, the Go relies on overpriced download and eliinates the ability to rent or resell games. To top it off it completely lacks backword compatibility, both with games and accessories. Go with the PSP-3000 and you'll be much happier. Or wait for the PSP 2, which will probably come in a year or so.

    Great console-poor website/cumbersome downloads

While I found the unit pretty nice and my son loves it, the set up was a bit of a pain because there is no keyboard other than the one of the display - I want to give potential buyers a warning about the downloads. Sony does not give you a filter that only shows PSP Go game downloads - navigating within games for the PSP3000 is a waste of time since many of these games (if not for download) are not of any interest for the PSP Go unit. Prices are also not straight forward and can range from $10 - $50.00 - so after having finally found an interesting game that can be downloaded, it turns out to be very expensive. Again, since this unit is for downloaded games only, list all these download ready games only and take out the games for the regular PSP. Further, the speed of Sony's website is poor - which adds to the frustration trying to locate additional games. The three free codes for the offered games were never sent to me and I had to complain to Sony and demand a supervisor to get my codes which I was told could take 7 - 21 days because of the size of the files - which is a poor excuse when all I needed was a code - and then they told me that on the 23rd days after purchase and registering the unit. I feel that if this is supposed to be the future of portable game consoles which have to be downloaded, then the purchase and download of the games should be easy, prices should be visible and the website should be fast. None of which is the case - therefore I would recommend against this unit. Sorry Sony , great hardware but since it totally depends on the software and website - not worth bothering with it.

    PSP tech support scam! BEWARE

I just want all parents to know that playstation network tech support personel are screwing parents over! The new PSP to go system specifically states that a child under the age of 18 is not allowed to have an account unless the parent makes a master account. Through the lovely aid (help) of your personel tech support team they will instruct a parent to make a master account and then a sub account and then they will assist you to purchase a game under your master account. Only for you to realize after purchasing this game, you were to purchase it under the sub account. Too LATE! they have your money, no refunds. And now a new tech support staff member will tell you there is no record of you talking with a tech support previously and that they will not refund your money so you can purchase the game under your son's account. They will also tell you that it is OKAY for your under the age of 18 son to play the game under the master account. WHAT THE **bleep**!!!!! playstation needs to sit down with their tech support people and explain the legalities of this issue. Especially when the system itself states that in order for your under the age of 18 child to play the parent needs to have an account. and now the tech support people are saying it is okay for you to let your child play under the master account with the parent ID/user name. Playstation has double standards- Plus they are raking in the money with parents. They are doubling their profit, and screwing the parents over. What a Great system, every parent should by one for their under the age of 18 child. So please be sure that you are purchasing the game under the sub account, or they won't be able to play it.

    Parents nightmare

A parents nightmare, This game is very time consuming and difficult to set up. I bought a PSP GO that comes with 3 free games for my son. The first problem is trying to find the Mac address of the game so your router will allow access to the internet. (I had to go online to find this information) due to the fact that I have Mac filtering on my router. This my not be a problem for all. Entering the router information is done by using the Game controls, this takes a long time if your not familiar with the game controls. Next, I had to installed the Media Go software that comes with the game. It would not connect me to the Playstation web sight because it said there was an update version that needed to be installed and would not continue. I was force to download the updated version of Media Go, and the 2nd version said I did not have Service Pack 3 for XP. I did not need service pack 3 But I had to install it to continue. Next, the parents have to set up a master account. You have to give all your Personal information to get to the next section where you can receive a voucher for three free games that surprisingly does not come with the game. Now here is the best part, if they promised free games with the consol, you have to wait 7 days to get it. With this new High Tech Sony Game, you would thing that waiting 7 day to receive the games is a little behind the times. This game is a parents nightmare and will only disappoint your kids if you did not buy extra games. This will take a couple of hours if not more to setup. This game is not “Ready” out of the box, you need the parents. This is a very technical and problematic game to set up.

Not child friendly, downloads are a nightmare

Bought two PSP go's for my grandchildren and hoped to help them download games while visiting us. I am a computer professional and have solid network links from my home office. I was able to access the Playstation Store, select the game, confirm I wanted to purchase it only to get a persistent error code 80023102. Searching the internet provided some comments with only one fix that was not from Sony. I was not willing to execute it because it was very invasive of my laptop. The support folks said it was their server problem and that in 24 to 48 hours it would go away. After 4 days and dozens of tries it did not and I returned the devices. I tried different browsers, laptops and accounts. Overall this was a very a disappointing experience. Sony did not gain my confidence. I agree with other reviews, definitely not an out of the box game for children.

We bought this product with the assumption that we got 3 free games. We bought the system 4 days before Christmas and tried to get the games only to find out that it takes7 days to get the free download. It is now Jan 2nd and we still don't have the games. Come to find out (in Sony's words "it could take a minimum of 14 business days to receive a voucher for the games") We also could not get our debit or credit card entered correctly in Sony's website and were told by 2 different people on Sony's helpline to just go to the nearest retail store and buy a gift card b/c lots of peoples banks just don't work well with Sony's website. We have 3 accounts and have tried multiple times and every time we tried Sony put $1 on hold. Right now we have $27 on hold on our accounts for trying to purchase a $20 card. This product is quite the rip off.

    Nice Try Sony TRY AGAIN!

I have contemplated buying this, came close but cannot, I played around with it. Sony made a good attempt, however missing key features for the price they charge you! Sony needs to go back to the drawing board on this! listen to the consumer more. missing battery pack. How do I buy another battery.. so when the battery dies..I need to pay another big $ to buy another one? Wrong! 2nd analog stick could of been added to this..there is room! I cannot justify paying the price since the difference of 50.00 to buy a PS3 w/ bluray.. so Sony sorry You lost me. I usually buy your products but you have made a mistake with this idea of the PSP GO! Try again and you may have a winner!

    Not worth the money

The PSP Go is cheaper for Sony to make because there are no more umd drives to manufacture. However, it costs more than the psp 3000 by $80. Games are still 39.99 and there is no middle man (games are bought online through playstation store). Plus, we cannot even sell or trade the games we purchase. Sony found several ways to rip us off and make lots of money. To keep companies from taking advantage of the consumer time and time again, do not buy into products like this. Before you buy, think.

    Not Mac Compatible

Opened this 8 hours ago and still not ready to play. Buy this item if you love a long arduous set up process. The box claims that it comes with 3 free games. They are only downloadable after receiving a code in 7 days or so. Decided to buy Madden. Can't load the required Window's specific software on my Macbook, so need to download wirelessly to the PSPGO. I have fast wireless and 190 minutes into the download, the device timed out. Now starting the process all over again. This is supposed to be a toy, but we have yet to see anything but the pathetic firmware on this piece of junk.

My son purchased this with his hard earned and long-saved money. We got it set up just fine, downloaded a game and a couple of demos. Then, when we tried to download another game, got an error code that no one could help us with. Hours of searching the internet for a solution and getting no help from Sony. We exchanged the unit, hoping that it was a glitch. However, after spending all the time setting up the second one, getting same error code. We have now lost $60 for the games, with no hope of recovering that. The second unit is going back. We are getting the PSP 3000.

    Worst Customer Service

I purchased it on 3/6/10 and already returned it. The system is way too expensive, for $50 bucks more you can get a ps3. I purchased a $50 playstation card and after 5 hours of downloading 2 games and 3 movies, the downloads did not transfer properly. When I contacted Playstation customer service their response was " That is not our problem". So if you're thinking about buying it for a child, don't because if something is mistakingly deleted, there is no way to recover your games, movies or money. The old psp is just fine.

I owned a PSP before. I had my games, my accessories and lost the station. All I wanted was a replacement. This new item requires that you purchase from the web. download to a unit that could crash and there go the gamea and your investment. Backup games to your PC's hard drive. Give me a break plus the games are just as expensive. I advice, wait for the next model this was/is a bust for me.

The only thing that is good about the psp go is that it is small.... if you purchase this product you will have to buy all new games and movies, because the psp go does not take UMD games. Also you have to buy cards instead. There is also absolutely NO access to the battery pack if you have ANY sort of problem with the psp.... overall i would recommend one of the older ones....
