I went in to BestBuy set on buying the 2.8 35mm Zeiss. BUT it was sold out, so I ‘settled’ for this. After getting the 35mm, I have to say, if I could only choose one, I’d get the 55 mm. I love the image quality and 1.8 aperture. I highly recommend it. It’s not too big. Super sharp and fast. Creates smooth bokeh.

I already have had one lf these since like 4-5 years ago and its so sharp as well as really good colors and the size just make it amazing. This it truely a professional lens that works great for photography. I will say that the focusing wheel on it is not the best if you sre a videographer whos using manual focus a lot since its focus by wire and kinda small. But if you use it with autofocus mostly (which is great on sony) then its a wonderful compact professional lens at a really resonable price. Also the old one i had for many years never had a single issue.

Beautiful shots literally pour out of this lens. It's a great focal length for everyday shooting and the bokah has such depth you'll want to reach out and touch the photos. Oh, and it's the sharpest lens I've ever seen.

I was excited to try this lens because I read so many reviews about how sharp it is and the wonderful bokeh it produces. My experience is every bit the same as I have read. The sharpness is fantastic across the full range of apertures, and that is why the price is so high. Cheaper F1.8 lenses have to sacrifice sharpness at the largest and smallest apertures, or they have rougher bokeh, or they are not sharp at the edges of the frame, or they don't render shadows as well, etc. You will be amazed at the quality and range of photos you can take with this lens, but it is especially useful for aquarium shots and indoor settings when you want a fast shutter speed with a low ISO setting. Enjoy!

Biggest benefit of this lens is its weight. Quality is excellent even though not the best Carl Zeiss has to offer. Focus is quiet and fast. Works great in video mode. Paired with a6500 you get best auto focus performance. Keep in mind that it is focus by wire which could be tricky when manually focusing. Bokeh is nice and sharpness is excellent. If you have the budget, I recommend this one over sony's offering SEL50F18F

Sharpness is on par with it’s pricier sibling, the Sony Zeiss 50mm f/1.4. Except the 55mm is so much lighter. Making it a great walk around lens. Or you can just throw it in your bag and have it with you all the time because it’s so light and small. Only cons are pretty noticeable chromatic aberration, and the bokeh circles are not clean. They have concentric circles from the aspheric element. Overall though, it’s image quality and compactness make it an excellent lens for your bag.

Extremely sharp, nice bokeh, well built, quiet auto focus, nice color rendition, and contrast. Best of all, it’s small and non-obtrusive. Unless you really want an F1.4 aperture lens I’d say this one is a must have!

This is an excellent lens, the quality of the pictures is apparent once you see the results. Like this lens so much that I stopped using the other lenses because it's a downgrade to be using something else. Also it's fairly compact and light. This lens stays on my camera all the time.

This is my first Sony camera and it has been awesome! There's so much to like about the camera so I'll name just a few. The image quality is amazing! The pictures you can get from this camera has met my expectations in all situations I have used it in, especially in low light. There's all kinds of good stuff to help it excel in that department such as in-body stabilization and quality lenses with large apertures. The autofocus works great. I mainly AF-Continuous with Eye AF and AF-Continuous Lock-on which locks onto a subject and it will continuously track that subject. One last PRO I want to mention is the very aggressive marketing/R&D by Sony and Zeiss. Zeiss lenses are amazing and they are one of the world leaders in what they do. CONS: - responsiveness is a bit laggy compared to other big brands - short battery life

I like this lens the most as it makes people look very good. it makes the background all buttery therefore people enjoy their pictures and it makes me look like a professional. the quality and design of this unit is great. no complaint. the price on the other hand is horrible. sony will not allow dealers to give any discounts. best buy is still the best place to buy something that has the same price everywhere.

The details you get when you’re close to someone or something is so crisp and clear, it’s flippin beautiful. And the movie quality is so cinematic. This lens is so so great. Between choosing to use the APS-C and the 2x zoom, it gives you really amazing distance without losing too much quality. Highly recommended. Using on AR7ii

Awesome little lens. The IQ is great. The size makes it a good pair for mirrorless. Using it on my a7iii. Super fast to autofocus. It doesnt give you that 3d pop a 1.4 will give you, but everything else is great. Only gripe is the price, you are paying for the size, autofocus, and colors. Its as sharp as other lenses in its range.

THE GOOD: Sharp! Great contrast, fast focusing, smooth focusing, lightweight, great build. Minimal chromatic aberration wide open and controls flares fairly well. THE BAD: Price! For a nearly thousand dollar lens that is only an f1.8 I expect lens stabilization and or weather sealing or focus hold. Unfortunately you're paying extra for the Zeiss name. This is a solid $800 lens, not over $900 for the price. This lens would get a solid 5 star if for the price it had stabilization or weather sealing. Or without these features if it was priced lower accordingly.

Of ALL of the native mount FE lenses, THIS is THE lens that delivers on a level that is truly uncompromising in EVERY regard. It is pin sharp at ALL f stops, it is superbly well built with a nice weight, the focus ring is butter smooth and focus on a A7RII is immediate even in lower light. The bokeh is indeed at the TOP of the level of quality. I consider this a "Must Have" lens for the top A series bodies.
