    Great earbuds

    Posted
    deaconblue5

I have been researching earbuds for about 3 weeks now. Ugh! No more! I just retired and want a pair for yard work around the house and for taking walks. What I found with earbuds is that no one wants to tell you Specs. They want me to buy them because they are popular, or the cool pair to have, or have features that I do not care about. But how do they sound? You can usually get a sense of how they will perform by the Specs. So why don't these companies provide basic performance numbers? Do they have something to hide? The numbers should be right on the box or the first thing they mention on a web site. In my experience over the last 40 years or so I have found Sony to be a quality reliable product at a price point that I can afford. And the the Specs on these earbuds are outstanding! First they have 12mm drivers! Huge! After digging deep I was able to find the Specs on several earbuds (why did I have to work so hard to get the Specs!) and most, even the expensive ones, have drivers between 6 to 9mm. The sensitivity rating is a huge 110dB which is extremely high and unique. The frequency response is 4Hz - 24,000Hz. Just massive! Most headphones much less earbuds of any quality at all will be 10Hz - 22,000Hz at best. And what do all these numbers at up to? A bass heavy sound with crisp clear highs and a solid mid-range. What I found from professional reviewers is they like to give earbuds that are bass heavy a hard time. They like to talk about how a good earbud should have good even bass but not over done. If I want that I will buy some reference monitors. I don't think the bass on these earbuds are over done at all all. I am a musician and an avid lifelong fan of music. But I'm not a snob about it. I have built basic home studios and recorded my own stuff and that is the place to have reference monitors with a flat response so that I am able to hear exactly what I am recording. In that environment I don't want a "colored" sound that isn't a true representation of the track I recorded. But when I go to mix down the recording I just made I am going to lean on the bass. The E.Q. with have the typical smile shape when I'm done. It's been my experience that people like to hear it that way. It sounds richer, fuller. But how many earbuds can you test, not as many as the professional reviewers. So on their advice I went out and got the Jaybird X2s. $140. I never got to hear them! Trying to get them to fit was so onerous I gave up! I mean come on, you should not have to try that hard just to get a good fit! I took them back. Then I purchased some Bose earbuds. $100. They were easier to fit than the Jaybirds but I was not impressed with the sound. So back to the store they went. Then I saw these on sale at Best Buy this morning for $29 and thought 3 things. They were only $30 so why not give them a try. The Specs on them were just outstanding so that was a good sign. And they were made by Sony which I have come to know and trust through the years. Well they did not disappoint.. They fit well right out of the box, And the sound was awesome. Big full bass without compromising the other frequencies. They look good. They fit well. They sound good. What else can I ask for? Ok they are not wireless like I was hoping for but that's ok.(Around the house I will use my Harman-Kardon blue tooth speaker that I love!) The Bose had a great storage case but at what cost? After several weeks and much research I have found my earbuds. I was willing to spend up to $150 but only had to spend $30. Don't hesitate to get them. I think you will be glad you did.

I recently purchased these earbuds by Sony and I absolutely love the sound quality they provide. I was considering several different pair. I also looked at, and eventually purchased, the Klipsch R6. I also considered the Skull Candy strum. I listened to both the Sony and the Klipsch offering, using the same music from the same device so that I would have a accurate comparison. Both pair offer excellent rich sound for such a tiny speaker. Both have great bass and mid level sound. There are 4 differences between the two offerings in my opinion. 1. The Klipsch are more comfortable. They fit my ears perfectly. They are almost like having nothing in my ear at all. Great snug fit. I workout in my earbuds so that's important. The Sony pair seem more durable though. And they are not uncomfortable. They just aren't as comfortable by comparison. 2. Both pair have great bass and lows. The Sony offering had better high level sound though. The vocals are crisp and the horns are clear and bright. The Sony buds are extremely well balanced in my opinion. 3. The Sony buds have better styling and color. (If that matters to you.) 4. The Klipsch offering costs about twice as much. Winner: Sony I'm not paying Twice as much unless your product is twice as good. For the price, I haven't owned a better pair of earbuds. I'm not a fan of the bass heavy Beats. I listen to almost all types of music so I while I do love great bass from a speaker, I don't want to sacrifice clarity and balance. Sony offers it all for a great price.

These earbuds sound very good and they definitely deliver the low range sounds after you get them setup correctly. "Setting them up correctly" is finding which of the rubbers you need on each bud in each ear so that you achieve the best seal on both... this is how you get the best sound from earbuds. The weight and comfort is fine, they're not the lightest of all earbuds I've tried but they don't cause any issues due to their weight. The cord is pretty much tangle free in my use of them, it has a texture that reminds me of some of the old vacuum cleaners, haha... that is to say, it has ribbed lines running parallel (or vertically) along the length of the cord. There's an inline remote with mic that works on my iPhone and iPad with no issues. The 3.5mm audio connector is L-shaped and slim in profile so it works with all of my iPhone cases including my sometimes difficult to use with headphones Lifeproof Fre case. I won't reach into my vocabulary of various audiophile terms to ramble on about the sound of these buds, what I will say however is they sound great. I have my beloved Klipsch S4 earbuds and these sound slightly more fun and exciting than those, the high end is not as accurate as my Klipsch's but they low end is way better in my opinion. The midrange is nice here, and given that's where a good majority of the music most of us enjoy takes place I would say these reproduce that range well... maybe slightly slightly recessed mids due to a boosted low end but nothing I'm going to really knock them for overall. Let me just sum it up here by saying... you could spend a lot more and end up with something that doesn't compete with these in all areas. These are a yes if you ask me, do not regret, do buy!

These Xtra bass in ear earbuds sound really good. Cost vs value....buy when on sale for under $40 if possible. Pros. Great sound reproduction. Crisp highs and excellent bass. Not overwhelmed with bass. An EQ on your listening device will help tremendously to get sound setup to your liking. Has an answer button for incoming and ending calls. This single button also skips to next sound track. Pretty comfortable when in ear for long periods of time. They don't hurt at all after hours of use. Cons... There is no volume control on earbuds anywhere...just the single, multi function button for answering/ending calls and skipping songs. The in ear earbuds are not universal fit....meaning one is labeled left and one is labeled right. They will hurt your ears and eventually pop out if in the incorrect ear. The cable picks up any type of rubbing or movement on say a jacket collar and will emit a loud almost static noise when cable brushes up against something. After about 4 months of use the built in mic, on same area as the mulifunction button, has stopped working so I can't use to talk on my cell phone. So when I am listening to Pandora on my cell phone with these earbuds and I get a phone call I have to remove an earbud, unplug cord from phone and finally answer the call. Sucks really. But these have lasted quite sometime. We all know in ear earbuds always break. That's why $100 earbuds make no sense. I WILL BUY THESE AGAIN as soon as I can no longer listen to music and they finally give out fully. Normally, with other brands of earbuds I've tried, one side quits working or I get an annoying static sound through speakers as one side cuts out. Not with these. These Sony earbuds are quite durable actually. I recommend to buy 100%.

I have these earbuds hooked up to my computer and a dedicated sound blaster z card. These earbuds can get loud enough to make yours ears hurt with a headphone AMP. The bass is a bit on the muddy side but its not terrible. The frequency response on these are pretty darn good for the price (music sounds live, clear, responds really good no delay). For the price these things are pretty decent. It has clear mids, the highs are so-so, and the bass is prevalent but not like a sub-woofer in your ear sound. These earbuds comes with a carrying case and 4 sets of ear bits. These earbuds sound great with rock music, R&B/Hip-Hop/Pop sounds clear but it sounds mashed up, EDM sounds great in high bitrate 320K. The earbuds has a fake metal on the end. I did not get a chance to try the mic but it does have a pause play button. I tested these earbuds on my Pixel 3a XL and they sound fine. They don't get as loud on the phone due to the phones maximum output. Overall for the price and quality of the earbuds I would highly recommend these as a nice set of earbuds on a budget.

But these black Sony are the ones I'm always reaching for. bypassing the Bose, Beats, JBL, Skull Candy XT-free, I will spend time looking for these. for good reason. I have a iPhone 6 and EQ on R&B or ROCK, with the "sound check off" specifically because these will cancel out ANY outside noise, you have to be careful at times. I didn't hear a fire engine pass right by me. The BASS will be felt not just heard, (4Hz-24Hz) the HIGHS can pierce your ear drums. These can be EXTREMELY loud if EQ isn't correctly set for the need. I have to make sure all the settings are right, before inserting them and turning them up. These are awesome if you wanna be in your own music world and ignore the mayhem around you! Ive heard parts of songs i'd never heard before, it took me a while to find the right ear mold size. It comes with 3 or 4, you need one that securely holds the earbuds in place. Not too deep, not too loose. These should cost $200-$250.00! I don't know how SONY can afford to do it. Get them, you can return them if Im lying.

    Great sounding bass headphones

I'm usually very picky about my headphones and was steering away from these and going for an expensive, high end product. But I took a chance on them on a whim because I was in a hurry to go get a run in, and I'm very happy I did. The Sony's are great. I'm a bigger guy so I had to change from the default ear plugs to the largest one they offered, but once I did, it was fantastic! Great seal to block out ambient noise and an incredibly strong sound with lots of bass. And despite the heavy bass, it never got "muddy" or lost the rest of the range. Again, I love bass...and I listen to lots of old school Rock and R&B. When I got home, I compared them to my wife's earPods for pure sound and the Sony's were much better to me which was a real surprise because I had always liked the sound of the earPods. But switching back and forth between the two, it was clear that the Sony was just a stronger all around sound for me. I did a lot of running and some hurdles and platform jumps and they never came out so I was very pleased with that aspect as well. As I said, I had to switch to the larger tips but once I did that, it was great, full sound and never moved during my exercise. I've been using them for about 5 different workouts now and still perfect for me.

I am very picky about earbuds performance and fit, having used scores of headsets in the past from working in the broadcasting industry for over 40 years. For me, earbuds' weaknesses are fit (particularly while exercising like running), faithful sound reproduction and workmanship, particularly with poor electrical connections at the plug. Loose wiring killed off my Sennheisers so I decided to return to Sony. I was influenced by the reviews below from deaconblue5 and Trey, which both reference performance and fit. I now fully agree with their reviews. These Sonys have superb full-range performance, plenty of volume capability and several extra rubber earpieces of different sizes. My right ear passage is smaller than my left so I've always had a problem of the right earbud falling out during treadmill work. No more. I swapped out the right earpiece for one of the smaller ones included in the packaging for perfect fit. That's huge for me. I don't know yet on how well-built the plug is yet - that's the part that always breaks first for me - but I trust Sony's workmanship over other manufacturers. Very glad to have these earbuds. Price is well worth the investment.

I have plenty of good-quality pre-bluetooth-everywhere legacy gear that needs wired headphones. I have been using these earbuds twice daily for about 2 months now. They are comfortable in my ears, provide decent sound isolation from outside noise (e.g. people talking, subway brakes, leaf blower), fit under ear-muff hearing protection (for really noisy backgrounds like gasoline powered lawn mowers), and provide decent low frequency response unlike so many earbuds that are anemic at the low end (when compared to playing the same material on open speakers). The microphone works quite well, in fact one team told me too well as it picked up background noises before I could mute on the conference call. The cords are rectangular, rather than round, in cross section, and seem sturdier. Only time will tell if the cord-to-plug connection holds up to ordinary use over the long term. With thin cord earbuds I've experienced open circuit failures, right where the cord enters the plug's strain relief. My last 2 thin round cord earbuds failed at about 15-18 months use - first occasionally loosing connection then getting more frequent until permanent failure. This was gradual rather than an abrupt sudden failure after an incident like a yank or drop.

These earbuds are super comfortable. I've never said this about earbuds before. It's as if I'm positioning the earbuds, rather than inserting them. Once they're placed, I don't really feel them. I hear them, and I see the wire. At no point do they feel as though they could fall off, either - no repeated fiddling to refit, no nagging certainty that one or the other is going to fall as I have experienced with Apple's earbuds. They deliver earbud-quality sound at lower volumes, lacking in body and definition. Upon first use, I thought, 'typical earbuds;' no big deal, as I had no expectations of them otherwise. But as I increased the volume, a lackluster listening of "Man In The Box" became something I could appreciate as it was intended to be when it got on my playlist. Nice! The quality starts to fill in, as if these earbuds are engineered to shape the sound well at higher amplitudes in a way that simply doesn't / won't / can't apply at lower amplitude. I use a Samsung Galaxy S8 and inserting the 3.5mm plug doesn't seem complete; I don't get any tactile sense that it is fully inserted, and it visibly appears, to my eyes anyway, as though it should go another 1.5mm further into the phone, but it does not, and based on auditory evidence it is correctly inserted (and will go no further); this is my only complaint regarding these earbuds.

I bought these pair of headphones to use for listening to music on my laptop and use during gaming. I moved up from a pair of Samsung earbuds that came with my Galaxy S3 so I really don't have any room to compare to top of the line Bose or Sennheiser. To give a general summary of what I think of these headphones: These have average sound quality with great bass. They are not noise isolating and can get a little uncomfortable after long periods of time since the ear piece is oddly shaped. I will break down my review into different categories. Sound Quality: The earbuds are great if you're the average listener. You can hear the different instruments and background melodies just fine. I play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and use these when I play. Hearing footsteps and gunfire is important in the game and I hear about everything when I play. I can distinguish things that are coming from the left earbud to the right perfectly. The only con is that they were not as clear as my Samsung earbuds. The sound was a bit muffled and expected a more clear sound from a $50 earbud. I've only had these for a week so maybe I need to burn them in more.. who knows.

These headphones do sound fantastic and the bass is excellent. The mic seems to work pretty well, and the earbuds provide fairly good sound isolation (as well as a white noise hiss that is always present). However, given that these headphones have a mic, you'd think they were made with talking on phone calls in mind, wouldn't you? These headphones do work for calls, but you'll probably have to ask the person on the other end to hold their phone roughly a foot away from their face so that your eardrums aren't blown out. Even at the lowest volume that my phone will allow, phone conversations are unpleasantly loud (unless I'm in a particularly noisy place). Maybe it's just my phone (Moto G5S Plus with Android 8.1.0) or something, but I don't know. Likewise, music on my phone is louder than I'd prefer, even at the minimum volume level. If you have any plans to ever use headphones on phone calls, I can't honestly recommend these headphones. If you're just trying to listen to music (especially music that's not on your phone), then go ahead and get these, they're great for that.

I was looking for some earbuds to use with a gaming laptop, and didn't want to invest a lot of money in them. (I'm pretty picky about sound quality in general, but I've found you can usually get away with a little bit cheaper of speakers or headphones if you're only listening to digitally generated music and speech in games. Having enough bass to reproduce explosions accurately is still important though.) Best Bay had these on sale for under $40, which was the price range I had in mind, and I trusted the Sony brand to be at least respectable in build and sound quality, so I gave them a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find they not only met my expectations, but actually seem to have pretty well balanced sound. (The "Extra Bass" branding on them concerned me because I didn't want to buy something that was bass heavy, making things sound "muddy".) It's actually more like I had hoped, where the extra bass promise just means the bass is heard (unlike the budget earbuds in the "under $15" category that usually have almost no bass). The only downside I've found to these is that I wish they made the cord a little bit longer. For example, if I sit my laptop on the floor right next to a chair I'm sitting in? The earbud cables just barely reach. If I turn my head, that's enough to pull the cord tight and make one of the earbuds come out of my ear.

I'm an extreme audiophile,& at the age of 56 I've heard the best Beats, Bose, Sony & countless great names in the over the ear, on the ear, ear buds, different types of bud configuration, and Sony always stays true to Studio Specifications as a standard reference point to regards of all their types of headphones. While the newer Names refuse to give up the real specs because they are dependent on acoustic rendering then standard 5000Hz - 30,000Hz@ 1-3watts,big stuff, or 100mw for hand held stuff. All that written to make a clear point. These pair of $49.99 ear buds will without effort stand against the expensive big boys. Professional listener's will notice the incorperation of specs & acoustics with a respectable bass mid & high tones, did I mention Bass,or I did ,just had to hint on it for when you hear these bad boys, Much More than I would have ever expected. Now I can rest in bed with these and stay on the high end audio level. THANK YOU SONY,THANK YOU BEST BUY

-Pros- Great Bass Price -Cons- Limited movement Only one size I own the big brother of these (MDR-XB950BT) and as far as audio quality is concerned they are nearly identical aside from the lack of bass boost. The audio is very pleasant even without the bass boost option. The price is very good when compared to other brands, but I was able to get these from my local Best Buy store for $32, about $20 cheaper than what is advertised online at the time of this posting and they wasn't open box or refurbished. I originally bought these for when I work out. I didn't want to use my 950's because of sweat mainly, but also wasn't sure if they would stay on my head during vigorous exercise. Unfortunately these earbuds disappointed in that respect. They would constantly fall out during any kind of heavy movement exercise and I found that even simply standing still and turning my head caused them more often than not to move around in my ear into less suitable positions. Also there are no different size buds like many other brands have. Overall I am pleased with the purchase because I now just simply use them as traveling earbuds rather than workout earbuds. I wouldn't recommend them for working out, but if you are looking for some earbuds for when you are stationary then these are very good value if you can get them close to the price I got them at. I would say that $50 is a bit much for what is on offer. I would check your local Best Buy for mark downs. Another thing to keep in mind is that some Best Buy stores do price matching if you find cheaper elsewhere.

I purchased these Sony ear buds for my 10 year old son. The Best Buy sales rep was super helpful in narrowing down the overwhelming amount of choices to best suit my son. He saved me a lot of time and stress . Some of the reasons we selected these Sony earbuds are because they have a tangle free cord and terrific sound quality for the price. He mainly uses them on his kindle to listen to u-tube videos and music/info on his I-pad when doing schoolwork, ect. A bonus is their beautiful shade of metallic blue which adds a super cool factor. Furthermore, another important decision was debating over wired vs. wireless ear buds. We chose the wires, mainly because it's one LESS item to have to worry about charging. With his ever growing list of things that need charged daily, especially for a 10 year old, this was a major selling point !!! Also, he wanted to avoid potential interference issues with the school bus ' cb radio system' if he opted for a wireless set; the sales guy pointed out this could be a problem. Ultimately, my son is happy with his selection and believes he made the right choice . He's especially impressed with the Sony earbud tangle free wires!!!!!! They work as claimed! He actually took time out from his video watching ,after we got home , to find me and demonstrate the no tangle feature! That's huge! Lol.

My main pair of headphones are a set of Audio-Technica M50's, so any set of headphones I buy in addition always have the inevitable comparison. I needed a set of earbuds for work so I didn't have to lug the M50's to work anymore. Obviously they're not the most portable set of headphones in existence. So I saw these earbuds on sale at Best Buy on sale, and after a couple hours of research, I pulled the trigger. They definitely sound good in conjunction with my Lg G3 phone and some high quality flac files/320 kbps mp3 files. They have pretty good bass, not too overpowering, but they are capable of hitting really deep lows for earbuds. I found the mids to be a bit recessed, but a slight EQ adjustment takes care of that. It only needs a slight bump to reach acceptable levels. The highs are pretty good as well even with a flat EQ setting. Overall, these earbud have become my daily drivers and I'm very happy with the overall sound. I'm pretty picky and have bought and shelved many sets of headphones over the last few years. The price to performance ratio of these is really the selling point of this particular set of Sony earbuds. You really can't go wrong for the price. Sony has a reputation for great sound and build quality and these don't disappoint.

I have to say, these are an Awesome set of earbuds. Great fit, Awesome sound and bass, Microphone doesn't seem to cause any issues while using them. I went through several different sets of earbuds and over the ear headphones before coming across these. I had a cheap pair stop working, but did ok for working out, listening to music on the go and taking calls. I bought a pair of Yurbud Inspire 200's because I thought it had a mic, I was wrong, was happy with the sound, the fit was a little different on those, but they worked, however the tips collect dust and fuzz like crazy with no mic, I had to return them. I bought a pair of wireless Skullcandy Smokin' Buds 2 and the right headphone stopped working after a few hours, returned. Grabbed a pair of Yurbuds Focus 400, and while they worked fine, the sound wasn't all that great, everything sounded muddled in the middle, plus they hurt my ears. Frustrated I started looking at the best reviewed earbuds under $50 and came across these. I immediately returned The Yurbuds and grabbed these for less on sale, plus price matching amazon. Very satisfied with the build quality thus far, they look nice, sound FANTASTIC, good Bass, Great overall sound on everything from POP, Rock, Rap, Dubstep. I would say grab these while they are on sale.

I have owned a red pair since 1.5-2 years ago and were twice the price they are now. I would still pay $60 for another pair today. Both the highs and lows are amazing. Good buds for people that like bass. My original pair still sounds as good as new and I use them daily at work for hours at a time. They are comfortable for extended use and very durable. Comes with cloth pouch and four different ear piece sizes. Due to my line of work, I have snagged these hard enough to yank them out of my ears and cell phone simultaneously multiple times with no damage. I bought my second pair just to have for when these finally go out, but I feel like that won't be any time soon. They just won't die. Warning though... the red will show dirt much easier. I bought blue as my back ups. Tempted to buy another black pair for when these both go out..... 5-7 years from now. Worth every penny and then some.

I got these guys for $26.99 and as always Sony always makes a great product. The bass is extremely nice indeed and they don't drown out the mids or highs which are also very nice. If you're looking for a pair of earbuds that are a nice replacement for your iPhone earbuds look no further. They fit comfortable in the ear and I wear them for hours at a time with no pain like others have reported I even sleep with them in to give you an idea of the comfort. It is true you can hear a little bit of noise through the wires if you tap them but what else do you expect from earbuds that are firmly suctioned inside your ear it becomes an extension of your ear. The weight isn't to bad either not as light as the iPhone ones but iPhone earbuds don't produce this sort of sound. I listen to all sorts of music from rock, metal, rap, dance, classical, jazz, new age, oldies, alternative and every genre sounds amazing in them. You won't be disappointed trust me if you're not are just send them back but I doubt there's another pair of earbuds out there for this price with this quality. By the way the cord is plenty long the only thing I'd like is a volume up and down button but that's ok.

I would recommend this to a friend
