All in all this little speaker is build tough for all things music. The design is about a touch smaller than a can of soda, yet the sound is near that of a larger blue-tooth speaker. I highly recommend this speaker for 2 primary reasons. Waterproof and dust proof, this means the speaker can be in the garage of on the boat with no need to worry about how it functions. Its protective rubber clam shell keep anything bad from getting into the electric brains of the speaker. While the charging port is under a rubber flap, its the only area that is not 100% protected by its sturdy exterior. Secondly, the sound. When I first looked at this speaker and noticed that it was only a tad larger than my mug of coffee, i thought it would not be able to produce deep enough bass or rich enough treble. Again, i was wrong. This speaker give just enough sound to accompany a table conversation or a ride on the boat. All in all, due to its design and superior sound, I highly recommend this portable speaker.

Sound is amazing but literally the only issue is that it could be louder but overall a great speaker!!!:) Not a bad price either!!

Nerd alert! I get giddy about big things in small packages because they are unassuming. However, this suave speaker with a big personality will stand out to you. I like to run it through a few of my favorite songs to test sound. Elvis sounded like he was in the room singing It's Now or Never where the guitar strumming sounded great, Avicci's, Pure Grinding also sounded great. That says a lot because that song musically starts off slow and as it progresses your ears are hit with vocals and all kinds of variables of sound. It is day one with my XB12 and I literally can't wait for next month's trip to the West Coast. Sony definitely delivered here. I have other large speakers where I expected good sound but the technology in this speaker is great and the battery life is long enough. No to mention it's water proof and has a neat loop to latch on to anything. I'm a guy who tosses things in a bag and heads out for a weekend into the unknown which sometimes means going to the lake, floating the river, working from home on the deck or just sitting around a fire with friends. The XB12 will pair well with all of those activities and more. In fact my favorite part is how small it is to sit by my hotel room bed and I can turn on my favorite playlist of sleep sounds (game changer)! I like to have all my gadgets fit in one tech bag so I can easily grab and go for the necessary activity which is why I pictured it with my other stuff. If it helps even my Frenchie loves it as I was napping I turned to see that the rain storm sounds were so real they put him to rest right next to me and he's a busy body. If he likes it then I am sold!

I love this so much the sound quality bass is clear.

This speaker from Sony is stylish and small. It's small enough to take anywhere you want, and gives close to the the promised 16 hrs of run time. The speaker is about the size of a half-height can of soda, so it's easy to grab and throw in a bag or just carry by hand (or by wrist using the strap). The body is coated with a rubberized coating and the controls are well separated and easy to find, even without looking. Like some of the other Sony speakers, this speaker allows you to add an additional speaker to either broadcast the same signal or to create stereo sound; the only down side is that it has to be the same model. The sound from the speaker is good; music is reproduced without sounding tinny, and the Extra Bass is quite evident. Although the sound is good, I found the volume to be a little disappointing. The speaker will easily fill a relatively quiet room with whatever you want, but I found I had to max out the volume on the speaker and run the volume of my phone almost to max if there was any competing noise (eg. mower outside, vacuum in adjacent room), and at that volume, the bass began to distort. All in all, I like the speaker. In my opinion, it's size, convenience, and overall sound make up for the lack of volume.

It is an upgrade to the fabulous and most portable speaker from Sony the XB10. The Sony Xb12 offers extra bass, battery life up to 16 hours, punchy sound in very compact sound, waterproof and dustproof IP67-rated, ability to add another speaker for a stereo sound, BT connection is fast. with a very nice hand strap. When I turned it on for the first time I couldn't believe that sound is coming out of this compact speaker. great for portability and hanging on backpack and last but not least "pool party"

The smallest and most basic of the speakers in Sony's line of Extra Bass Bluetooth speakers, "extra bass" might be an overstatement, but it does have a bit more low end punch than most of the speakers found in this range.. This IP67 waterproof and dustproof speaker boasts good battery life for such a tiny speaker and delivers relatively rich sound. It's equipped with a detachable strap, which could be used to hang the speaker from a hook in your shower (again, waterproof) or from a tree branch. You can also pair two of these speakers and use them as stereo speakers. It's a little on the high-end side as far as retail price, but offers a richer sound than many of the plethora of mini speakers available and if you don't need the IP-67 waterproof rating, you could save some money by getting the previous year model XB10, which is essentially the same speaker but water resistant rather than waterproof. Overall, this little speaker offers a pleasant design and sounds much better than you would think by looking at it.

Love this speaker! But I'm upset that it has barely been a month and the rubber is lifting. I would exchange for a new one but I threw the receipt and the packaging away.

Don't let the size fool you. This little speaker packs a good deal of sound, and even a good deal of punch. While it's not going to be like the XB4X/3X/2X series speakers, it's still good. I was quite surprised by the sound quality given it's size. I've had both the XB41 and XB40 and still use my 41 at home daily and never been disappointed. I like that it is IP rates so you can take it with you pretty much any where. I even set mine up fro use in the Shower and just shrugged off the water. I actually use it at my work as I like the small inconspicuous size so I can just set it out of sight and play my music from my phone to it while working without have to distract anyone. If you're looking for a very small, good sounding water resistant speaker, this is going to be your best bet.

The Sony XB12 is the successor to the hugely popular XB10. That said, should you give it a go or stick to the older XB10? Both speakers have essentially the same design which are half-sized can speakers with two relatively minor design changes. First would be the control panel. The XB12 has pronounced controls for power, volume, pause and add speaker unlike the XB10 which is a plus for me. Second, the XB12 now has a strap instead of a loop with a ring wherein the ring can be used as a directional stand. For some, this may be something to consider. Performance wise, both have a battery life of 16 hours. As of this writing, I have still have not tested this but I already used the XB12 for 8 hours and so far so good. And unlike bigger Sony speakers, volume seems not to be lessened after a few hours to save on battery life. One thing to note is that as per the manual, charging the unit is at 4 ½ hours. Also, the XB12 has an IPX67 rating whereas the XB10 has an IPX5 rating which is a definite plus. Pairing of the speaker was a breeze and my test unit was ready to go. Upon initial playback, I wasn’t really impressed with the sound especially the bass though I expect speakers of this size don’t really have much bass at all. However, things changed after I continuously ran the speaker the whole day and audio from this unit became much better. (Note that most if not all speakers require a burn-in period. This is no exception.) The mids and highs were clear and there is a noticeable improvement in bass. I’ve tried various music genres ranging from jazz, new age, classic & soft rock, 80 synthpop, reggae and hiphop. All save for hip hop gave good response. (But really you need more powerful bass for hip hop.) New age, jazz and soft rock on the other hand showed the clarity that this speaker can handle. Like most Sony speakers, the XB12 is a straightforward Bluetooth speaker using version 4.2. There are no apps included and this may also be a dealbreaker for some. But what may seem dealbreaker for me is the lack of NFC in the XB12. The XB10 has NFC. And though some may argue that few use NFC at all, it is an indication that Sony scrimped on this one. While there is still much to like in the XB12, the XB10 is still a more feasible option given the fact that its price is going down due to the entry of the XB12. And if you add a few dollars more, you can get two XB10s and pair them together giving you a much wider range of sound making the XB10 truly the better option IMHO.

Great sounding mini speaker, considering how small it is. It is loud indoors. Haven't yet tried outdoors so not sure how it is out there. Bluetooth connectivity is a breeze. Battery life is good. The bass is good for its size. Of course it's a small speaker so I'm not expecting it to sound like party. I'm not a bass head. I sometimes find heavy bass annoying so I was worried of the "extra bass" I almost didn't buy this. Good thing the bass isn't too overwhelming, it is just the right amount and to my liking. It sounds CLEAR overall. If you're not an audiophile then forget about the bad reviews coz truth is the sound isn't terrible at all. It is great. Try songs with high quality format and not just youtube reuploads and the likes, you'll appreciate it more. If you expect a BOOM sound quality then spend a BOOM amount. The Sonty SRS-XB12 portable Bluetooth speaker/amp is an exceptional value. For a small speaker system, it has huge BASS capability. Plenty of volume range and it's enclosed in a silicone rubber case, water proofed to normal beach side/poolside use. We bought a short 3.5mm audio male/male cable to connect this speaker to a clip on IPOD....Works great. Also connected the IPhone to it via bluetooth, sounds great and no inter-cabling. It charges quickly from a USB adapter or computer. Haven't run it down on a full charge yet....recall it's good for over 10+ hours. Comes with a convenient/sturdy nylon strap for carrying. This speaker/amp is built rugged and reliable. Nice work SONY !!

This is a terrific speaker, especially for the compact size... I put it at the head of my bed and fall asleep to Pandora on sleep mode... Also very bright neon red color helps with finding it in a cluttered room, and makes it POP... It puts out a good balance of highs and lows, with out to much drone in the mids... Good Sounds, water resistant, and Good battery life... Worth the money for Me... :)
