The Sony XB22 wireless portable Bluetooth speaker is an update to the XB21 speaker. It is a surprisingly powerful unit with very nice sound quality and some great bonus features. Compared to the alternatives available it is one of the best values on the market. This year Sony once again upgraded its line of wireless Bluetooth speakers with a family of three new units: XB12, XB22 and XB32. These have some similar features (Extra Bass, Live Sound mode, water and dust proof case, inter-speaker connectivity, lighting effects) but differ in speaker size, battery life and price. The largest (XB32) is 9.4 inches long, weighs 2 pounds and has two 48 mm speakers. The midsize (XB22) is 8 inches long, weighs 1.2 pounds and has two 42 mm speakers. The smallest (XB12) is 3.6 inches long, weighs 9 ounces pounds and has one 46 mm speaker. The XB32 costs about 1.5 times the XB22 and the XB12 costs about 40% less than the XB31. There are advantages to each but this review will concentrate on the XB22. After extensive testing of the Sony XB22 speaker in a wide variety of applications my conclusion is that this very compact unit has a superb combination of features, power and sound quality which surpass the vast majority of its competitors in its price range. First, consider that the Sony XB22 is packed with a great set of features and specifications: . It is very compact, 8" wide, 2.9" tall and 2.7" deep . Weight: 1pound, 3 ounces and feels very solidly built . Shock-resistant: Survives 4 foot drop test . IP67 rating: Water proof in up to 3 feet of fresh or salt water for 30 minutes . Dust proof and easy to clean . Two 42 mm (1.7 inch) Mica Reinforced Cellular speakers plus two passive radiators . Amplifier provides 4 watts of power for each speaker (at 4 ohms) . Frequency range: 300 Hz to 15,000 Hz . Total Harmonic Distortion of just 1% . Sensitive microphone for use as speaker phone . Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity with 33 foot range . NFC for easy connections . Mini jack (3.5 mm) input (to connect other sources) . Power supply: lithium ion battery, micro USB recharge cable included, full charge time 4 hours . Battery life up to 12 hours (6 hours at maximum volume level) . Lighting effects can be turned off entirely to extend battery life . Sony Music Center app may be used to control most speaker functions . One year parts and labor warranty The XB22 differs in a few respects from last year's XB21. It is slightly longer and the exterior has a fabric grill surface over the front speaker area. The rest of the exterior has a rubberized surface compared to the all fabric surface of the XB21 with the "Sony" name more prominent. The sides are flatter than the XB21 making vertical placement more stable. It also has a separate control for the "Live" DSP setting. The back has an open grill which seems to improve the performance of the passive radiators and deepens the bass. The sound produced by this speaker is distortion-free and steady at both low and very high volumes. The twin speakers are slightly angled toward each other to increase the stereo effect and it has a DSP for a "3D Live Sound Mode." The XB22 has considerable bass due to the passive radiators employed. It also has a feature called "Extra Bass" which increases the bass significantly which you can activate if you really want to emphasize the deep tones in your music but I found that the normal setting produced a better overall sound for most music. The Bluetooth connection was effortless and solid from every device I tried (phone, tablet, laptop). It held the connection steady up to about 35 feet from my music source. One nice bonus feature is the ability to connect a chain of up to 100 Sony speakers which can extend your music throughout a large home or provide multiple sound sources in the same room. Another use for the speaker is to create a high quality speaker phone by linking it to your phone - much better sound than using your phone's tiny speakers for conversations. The built-in microphone was very effective for this purpose. The bottom line on this sturdy, waterproof speaker is that is provides excellent sound quality from a very compact body at a very affordable price. I endorse it without reservation!

Great sounding fun speaker in a small package

The XB22 is a great sounding little speaker that can be surprising loud and still sound good. There is a button that toggles Extra Bass and Live Sound modes. There is also a standard sound mode and a three band equalizer in the Music Center app to further customize the sound. With the cap fastened securely it has a waterproof rating of IPX7 (fresh water, tap water, pool water, salt water) and dustproof rating of IP6X so you are safe at the beach or the pool (IP67). It doesn't like hot, soapy or jets of water so don't use it in the hot tub or shower. The circumference is just barely larger than a 12oz can, so it is very easy to hold. It isn't as long/tall as two cans end to end, maybe 1.5. The small size and weight of just over a pound make it easy to take anywhere. It can stand on end or rest horizontally on four "feet" but don't rest it on an incline or it might tip over/roll away. The 12-hour battery life keeps the music going and the white Line lights sync to the beat for more fun. Lights can be turned on/off by pressing the BATT button for 3 seconds or using the Music Center app. You can also use the Music Center app to choose between Rave, Chill or Strobe patterns. Bluetooth Standby mode only works when the speaker is plugged into a USB AC adapter or a booted computer. The feature is NOT available when the speaker is powered only by the built-in battery. Auto Standby (auto power off) mode doesn't work unless you turn off the hands-free function of the connected phone. If you want to use the speaker for both Media audio AND Call audio, it will never go to sleep. @@@@@@@@ Bluetooth/Auto standby details found in the Sony Help Guide. URL/3D barcode on the box) Wireless Party Chain supports up to 100 Sony wireless speakers, music and lights sync-up. The Speaker Add function lets you combine two of these to have Left and Right speakers. Party Booster isn't for me, younger people will likely have more fun with this feature. Tapping the front, top, bottom, left and right sides can produce different sounds and flash the line lights. It can be left OFF or set to Drum Kit, Percussion or Custom using the Music Center app. I used custom to set all 5 sounds to cowbell -for those times when you gotta have more. The power up battery level voice can be turned off using the Music Center app. It will still announce the battery level if you press the BATT button. The battery level is also displayed in the Music Center app. Top controls (left to right): - One touch NFC feature. Convenient if you use Android. - Live button with indicator. Toggles Live (light on) and Extra Bass (light off) modes. - Play/Pause/Call/Assistant/Forward/Reverse button. Short press for Play/Pause. Two second press for Call. Three second press for Google/Siri. Two short presses skip track. Three short presses reverse track. - Volume down and Volume up buttons - Bluetooth indicator - Power button with indicator / Pairing button. Indicator green = standard sound mode, white = Extra Bass or Live mode, orange = speaker turns off and set to Bluetooth standby mode. Indicator flashes once each time -/+ volume keys are pressed, three times at lowest (0) or highest setting (50). Rear compartment: - Audio IN 3.5mm stereo mini jack - DC IN 5V micro USB charging port with indicator. On while charging, off when complete. - Reset button (recessed, use paperclip) - Battery level button (quick press) / Line light on/off (hold 3 seconds) - Wireless Party Chain button with indicator, connects up to 100 Sony speakers - Speaker Add button with indicator, turns two units into Left and Right stereo speakers. - It can be difficult to open the cap/cover sometimes. Using fabric, like your t-shirt, over your fingertip prevents your finger from slipping.

Sony - SRS-XB22 Portable Bluetooth Speaker packaging is excellent. It came with speaker and charging cable. The design is very unique and well built. Setup is quick and easy. I was able to connect using Bluetooth and NFC options without any issues. It has micro USB port and Stereo mini jack. I was amazed with sound quality and clarity after playing a song from my iPhone. The color changing LED lights are really cool while playing songs. The extra bass is really good as well from this speaker. Battery life is really solid and came around 12 hours. It took around 5 hours to charge fully. I was playing a song with full sound and fill the entire living room with great sound quality. The ability to connect more than 100 speakers is a great feature and it will help to place speakers in each room. I already own SONY SRS-XB31, SRS-XB41 and able to pair with SRS-XB22. The quality is much better and wide in SRS-XB22. Live Sound is an amazing feature to get 3D sound experience. This speaker is dustproof and can be used in beaches and outdoor. It is totally washable and waterproof and can be used in swimming pool. The design is great and speaker can be used horizontally and vertically. I have installed the SONY Music control and it has tons of features to control music. The call quality is great with this Bluetooth speaker. SONY built a very solid Bluetooth speaker with better sound quality with bass. The price is reasonable as well. My kids are using this speaker very regularly due to the color lights and party mode. SONY always make better products in TVs, Cameras and they have entered in audio space with quality products like SRS Series Bluetooth speakers. Well done SONY and it is another outstanding speaker!

I've had the Sony SRS-XB22 for about 3 days now. So far, it's been everything that I was hoping it would be. It's very portable and has great sound for it's size. It was easy to pair with my iPhone and I had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. I use Spotify regularly and this speaker was immediately available as an option to play music through the speaker once I set up the bluetooth connection. I charged it fully when I received it and I've played it for 6-7 hours over the past few days without need to recharge. The battery life is still at 50%. So, with a new battery/speaker you can expect a long battery life, I would estimate at least the 12 hours advertised or longer on a full charge. The speaker has light and party modes which can be turned on and off. With the light mode on, the speaker will flash a white LED light along with the bass of the music you are listening to. There is a party mode which will allow you to make drum and other sounds along with the music when you hit the speaker in certain areas. If you are in the mood to party, and like these sorts of things, you will be very happy with this speaker. Personally, I'll probably leave these modes off and just use the speaker to listen to music only, in which case it's still a very solid wireless speaker. You can also pair these with additional speakers for whole house/room/party synced sound. Couple things which I wish were different but are not deal-breakers. It would be nice if the light mode allowed you to just turn on the light and not have it flash along with the music. Also, it can be a bit of a pain to determine how much battery life is left, you either need to undo a flap on the back of the speaker and hit the 'battery' button, or you can download the associated app and check the battery and other setting there. So, overall so far this has been a quality portable speaker for me with great sound for the size. It's durable and it's a nice added bonus that it's water and dust resistant. This will make it a great option to take to the beach or the pool.

The Sony SRS-XB22 is a great little portable speaker. This new model is pill shaped and you can stand it on its end or side. It fits easily in your hand and its light and very portable. The sound is great as well, Sony really knows how to make these things sound a lot bigger than they are. The extra bass feature does make a difference as well. I was a little disappointed that the lights are only one color and on my black model they are white. The party booster feature is included in this model and it allows you to hit different parts of the speaker with your hand and it will make different sounds. You can program what sounds and which areas will make them using the Sony Music Center app. I also have the previous generation of this model of speakers, but they are the bigger siblings, the XB31 and XB41. I was able to link them using the Music Center app and that allows them to all broadcast the same song and you can link up to 100 speakers in total. I found the app to be useful for most things and it was very easy to pair the XB22 speaker using the NFC chip that is built in. Once I had it paired up I was ready to create a Wireless Party Chain. I have had mixed success with this though. My biggest issue was a syncing issue with the music. At first they will all play in perfect sync, but after a few minutes one of the speakers would be a half second behind the others. My only fix was to stop the grouping and re-group them again. This seems to happen quite often so maybe this can be fixed with an update from the app. I have the latest version at the time of testing. Overall, this speaker is a very good and I am very happy with it. IP67 rating also makes this the perfect companion to just about any outdoor adventure and the 12 hour battery life makes sure that you won't run out of tunes anytime soon.

This speaker combines Sony's consistently excellent sound quality in a small and portable speaker that is the perfect size to take on the go. Pros: - Battery life is excellent. Even with heavy use you won't have to charge it often. - Great price for a quality product - The smaller size makes it nice and portable without sacrificing sound quality Cons: - It won't fill a large area with sound, but it is designed more for small rooms or intimate outdoor locations. If you are looking for a speaker to take on the go or provide audio in a kitchen or bedroom, this is a great option to consider.

Best place to start is in summary... Very cool little speaker! Arrived in standard cardboard box, opened up and nicely presented factory packaging. I was confident in knowing I would be getting a good product. After opening, charging and familiarizing myself, it paired quite quickly. No problem at all. Sound quality was really quite good for a small package. Would be perfect for outdoor activities... Pool, beach, yard work etcetera. It is listed as IP67 rating for "dustproof" and "waterproof", but more on that a little later. The light feature is a little gimmicky but the kids like it, so I guess it's cool. The unit does a have some features I was not able to test, but worth mentioning is the "Party Chain" where multiple units can be synched up. Pretty cool, but I'm not sure how valuable or often you would really use it. The ap was as to be expected from Sony. Gives you easy control over speaker features, BUT it's yet another ap in a seemingly never-ending sea of aps. I also like the size. Really good and portable unit. It can be placed horizontally or vertically dependent on need and environment so that's a handy feature. As previously mentioned, this unit's IP67 rated. What does that mean? First, it can be submersed into a meter of water for up to 30 minutes. That said, I personally would not test it, but I would be 100% comfortable with this little guy with the kids out by the pool, at the beach or use it to work in the yard and if a sprinkler came on, no problem. It is also listed on the IP67 scale as dust-proof. Would I sandblast it? No way, but would I take it to a silky sand beach in Western Florida or crescent beach in Hawaii? Yes, by all means. In all this is an excellent choice for a very good sounding, easily portable and dust/water-proof speaker. Also, for the price point, it's a great option for the kids to use in their ever-active list of activities.I would have no reservations recommending to a friend. Nice little unit! Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Wide, Immersive Sound from a Small Speaker

The Sony SRS-XB22 is the next generation in their line of various-sized, portable Bluetooth speakers, pumping out a great range of sound in a very small package. The SRS-XB22 is the smallest, most portable speaker in this line. Starting with the sound quality, it's clear and bold. Bass is strong for a speaker in this size, controllable to a certain extent using the app (which still needs a lot of work, in my opinion). The option to toggle a "Live" mode is available with a single button, which works better when listening to concerts performed live, but even those I still prefer to play without the live mode on. Sound is expansive in terms of coverage range, and the best way I can describe this is that I have multiple speakers in my home. When I was playing music from the speaker and standing a few feet away, I thought I actually had synced with another speaker behind me, which I had not. The speaker, despite being only a few inches wide, was pumping out sound that expanded and filled the room, a testament to the quality and placement of the speakers inside of the unit. Very impressive. The speaker has a couple of white LEDs on the face that will blink in sync with the music but found those to be a little annoying after a while, nothing like the lights on the next higher version of this speaker where the lighting is smoother and multi-colored. Additionally, the lights do eat in to the battery life, so if you're looking to run this for its full 24+ hour published battery life, do yourself a favor and turn the lights off (single button or via the app). The device also features a line-in so you can hard-wire you device or a Chromecast to your unit. The connections on the back are hidden behind a beefy rubber door which helps protect its IP56 waterproof rating. The speaker also features a "party" sync mode where you can link multiple Sony speakers together in a "Party Chain" and play music from one device on multiple speakers. As was the case with the previous generation of the SRS speakers, the syncing process is wonky, requiring that the speaker disconnect from your Bluetooth, then sync between themselves with Bluetooth, after which you're forced to manually reconnect to the speaker groups with your device's Bluetooth. It works, but certainly not the easiest thing to do. In my house with the multiple SRSs, I just use Chromecast Audio devices with the line-in feature to link them. It's easier to manage with the Google app and Chromecast, but obviously if you're going portable, this isn't really an option, thus the Party Chain option on the speakers. But the immersive, wide sound of the speaker, combined with the small package and waterproof rating makes this a great speaker whether indoors or out. Well worth the purchase for a device that will go with you in your pocket (well, your cargo shorts pocket).

The Sony XB22 Extra Bass Speaker has good sound quality and also has a few interesting party tricks: you can tap it to produce various sounds, you can set it to have lights that flash with the music, and you can sync it with up to 99 more Sony XB speakers so everyone can hear the music. If the idea of tapping the speaker to make various percussion sounds doesn't sound all that useful to you, you'd be right. But it can be a little bit fun. It works best if you hold the speaker in one hand and tap with the other. It's small enough that it doesn't stay still if you smack it while it sits on a table. For those interested, you use the Sony connected app to select how the sounds work. You also get a ring of light around the grill and two mini-strobes that all flash in rhythm. Again, not all that useful, but it adds a touch of fun, and it can be customized or turned off with the app. Another positive feature is that you can pair up to 100 of these speakers together to create what Sony calls a "party chain." The lights in each speaker of the chain will operate in unison, which would probably be pretty cool if you chain a number of them together, although I doubt anyone will string 100 of them together any time soon. But we have this one and two larger once we can sync together for fun. But those lights and sounds are just party tricks. The real trick with this speaker is how rich the soundfield is and how deep the bass is. For a speaker this size, this little guy really does sound amazingly good. It's also nice to be able to play music from multiple portable speakers in a large area. We tried a variety of types of music, and the little XB22 handled them all with ease, returning a depth of sound that you just don't expect from such small speakers. Sony has done a terrific job with their LIVE SOUND mode. The footpads for this speaker are robust, which seems odd to say about a small speaker. They are sort of oversized, rounded, rubber knobs and do a great job of providing stability as the XB22 kicks out sound. I would think these footpads would do an excellent job in most situations, and they certainly give the speaker a more solid base than many of tiny feet most speakers seem to have. The XB22 can also stand vertically, if you prefer. In terms of other features, battery life is very good at 12 hours. And the XB22 carries an IP67 waterproof rating (Sony also says it is dustproof and rustproof). It natively communicates via BT 4.2 and also includes NFC pairing. I would have liked to see BT 5.0, but 4.2 isn't bad. The fact is, most devices you'll use it with don't have BT 5.0, either. My only complaint is that the sound starts to degrade at higher volumes. The little speakers in this guy just can't quite keep up at higher volumes. But, overall, this is one rocking little speaker. Plus, the party tricks might be fun for students, and syncing a number of the XB speakers together is easy and makes for a great, immersive musical experience. And since sound quality is the main thing for a speaker, the XB22 is a real winner.

    Rugged Update

The sound from the Sony SRS-XB2x series continues to be excellent for its size and price. The sound specs are identical to last year's model, and I could not tell any difference in sound quality from the two. Sony's Music Center app lets you control the speaker's functionality for equalizer, lights, power, battery level announcement and more. It also lets you chain Sony speakers together to create an encompassing sound for a party. Like other Sony portable speakers, you can tap the speaker to make different sounds like scratch, snare, drum and cowbell. That's a fun little gimmicky feature that I'm sure doesn't get used much, but it's there. The biggest update from prior models is the IP67 waterproof and dustproof rating (last year's model was only water resistant). That means you can drop it in water - even saltwater - and it won't get damaged. If you're looking for a small portable, rugged bluetooth speaker with decent sound, this one is worth it.

Good Sound for a Small Package

For a portable, Bluetooth speaker, the Sony XB22 has great sound and is quite robust. I compared it to my JBL Charge which is a few years old now but has been the go-to in the house for external speaker. Both my wife and I preferred the sound of the new Sony XB22 and it did indeed provide more bass than the JBL could muster. I was a little disappointed with the bass but that is making an unfair comparison to much bigger and far more expensive speakers that we have in the house. As this is the most portable and the simplest to link up to, it already seems to be better than what we were looking to upgrade. The unit has been designed to work indoors and outdoors and is supposedly waterproof, shock proof and can survive pool parties and beach trips - even sand is supposedly not going to get inside under normal operating conditions. This gives it a huge advantage over many other Bluetooth speakers, in addition to its superior sound (at least compared to our JBL). The speaker has two built-in lights that can be set to off, on or flashing in time to the music. I found the lights to vaguely follow the beat but for long term use, I'd likely just turn this feature off. Settings for lights, sound etc. are controlled through the Sony Music Center app you download to your phone/tablet. I already had the app for another Sony speaker and it is easy to pair the new speaker via the app and Bluetooth settings on your device. A feature I was scratching my head over is the Party Booster - a less fun version of Bop-it! that is built in. You can activate the default settings for Drum Kit and Percussion or customize from the library of provided sounds which let you pick up the speaker and tap along with the instrument(s) of your choice while it plays. The sound you hear depends on which part of the speaker you tap and how hard you hit it will define how strong the sound is. If you thought a song needed more cowbell, you literally can add it yourself. The unit didn't seem responsive enough to get a consistent beat out of and I concluded it would be something I'd prefer not to hear at any parties I attend. I'd be interested to see what demographic this is aimed at and the research that suggests it as a desirable feature as I can't put my finger on it. The speaker can be linked with up to 100 other similar Sony devices in what is called "Wireless Party Chain",so that they play the tracks in synch as well as matching light patterns, if that feature is turned on. Superfluous features aside, my wife and I were both impressed with the sound and the extra bass function certainly did add a little for such a small and portable speaker. It will be our goto mini speaker for indoor and outdoor use from now on.

The Sony XB22 extra bass portable bluetooth speaker is great. This little powerhouse has a lot of bass for something so small. its only about 10 inches or so long with 2 speakers inside of it. I didn't read the instructions when I opened the box, I just turned it on and connected it to my phone. In about 10 seconds I had music playing on my back porch. This little jewel is easy to use and connects in seconds to most any bluetooth capable device. I really like how simple they designed this speaker. The sound is great, and you can connect multiple speakers together for larger gatherings. Plus this speaker is dust and water proof. So carrying it to the pool or the lake is no big deal.Good price and Big sound that's portable, 5 stars in my book!

I was almost going to skip over this one because it was small and I was worried about how good the sound quality would be. Turns out, this thing sounds great! Most impressive is that you feel like the sound is coming out around you, instead of coming out directly at you. This is the first time I've experienced this with a small speaker like this. The sound quality is great, not at all what I expected. Live mode, which I normally don't like, sounds very good on this one. Since it is waterproof and dust proof, you can take this outside to the beach, leave it out on the porch, or just not have to worry about it getting ruined no matter where you are using it. I could feel a rubber coating on it, likely to help with drop protection. It has a solid feel and is of a decent weight, not at all what I expected for a small speaker. As with the other Sony speakers like this, you can join them together and create a wireless network of these speakers that are all playing the same thing at the same time. This is very cool and don't think anyone else has this feature. The battery is rated at 12 hours, and I've not had the chance to let it go that long, I am at 6 hours and still going strong with about 60 percent left. I don't have the volume up very loud, but this assures me it can go on for quite awhile. The lights on this are not like the other speakers Sony has released, these are not color changing and there isn't much light that comes out of this. Sound quality, battery life, and being waterproof are the strong points of this one, and Sony got these right on these points. If you want a very decent quality speaker, at a great price point, this is the one to get. The sound quality does not disappoint and I can tell you that the way this does surround sound is more than impressive. Plus because it is small, it is easy to pack if going on travel, to the beach, etc.

This is a great little speaker. It's a cylinder 8 inches long and a little less than 3 inches in diameter. It has good heft for its size, and it has a rubberized exterior so it can be handled. There are four little feet on it to prevent it from rolling away if you set it on its side, or it can be stood on end. All controls are along one side, and there is a little "hatch" that opens to access the charging port and audio-in jack to connect it by hardwire to an audio source. But the point of this is that it is Bluetooth-capable, and, after charging it first as recommended in the accompanying manual, I had it connected to my smartphone and playing songs from my playlist in no time at all. The sound is excellent, with good bass from such a small device. Of course, Sony calls it an "Extra Bass" portable Bluetooth speaker, and it certainly lives up to that description. The device flashes a few lights in time to the music as well. I've been using this in my garage for about a week now, and I've enjoyed it greatly. One of its best advantages is its extreme portability. I move it around the garage as I move around. I can use it to answer the phone as well. It's small enough to fit into a larger coat pocket, and, of course, with the rubberized exterior, it is easy and comfortable to grip by hand. There are many portable Bluetooth speakers out there, and most are pretty good. This one is as well, and it stands out for its small size, excellent sound, and portability. Highly recommended.

    Capable portable speaker

There are a lot of pill form-factor portable bluetooth speakers on the market. Sony tries to stand out by adding a "EXTRA BASS" label on the box and a couple gimmicky features. The bass and overall sound sounded at least on par with many of the other speakers in it's class, which is to say it'sn't bad at all. The lights are kind of cool for a little extra fun, but also can get annoying. Fortunately they're easy to turn off and stay off until you specifically turn them back on. The party mode is kind of silly (will play silly sound effects when shaken or tapped), and I don't see anyone regularly using that feature. Other than that if you're familiar with other Sony speakers and the Music Center app, then you probably know what to expect here.

Compact and light the Sony SRS-XB22 EXTRA BASS Wireless Speaker is packed with many 'party ready' features. Weighing 19.05 oz., it is 7.9" wide, 2.7" deep and 2.8" high. The design incorporates lights that can blink to the music and the Bluetooth, wireless, and portable speaker is designed to sit securely either horizontally or vertically. Dustproof and waterproof, it can be rinsed off if necessary and has been designed to handle many outdoor activities; including pool splashes and deep woods hiking. Features include a built-in microphone that enables the speaker to be used with a Bluetooth phone. The conversation is very clear and natural. The speaker paired easily and charged quickly, and the rechargeable battery runs up to 12 hours. Turn on the light and party booster function and make your own sounds to the beat. The Extra Bass is clear and strong as the speaker projects tones across all frequencies. There are 3 buttons on the rear with the audio in for speaker use and the USB charging port. The battery button gives the percentage of battery life left on the charge and if held for 3 seconds turns on the lights. The WPC button enables the speaker to chain up to 100 Sony speakers. And the ADD button enables L and R speakers to be added. Hold down the volume up and down together until the power light blinks and the party booster function is activated. The Sony Music Center App allows customization and allows various styles of music by combining compatible devices. More than just a little portable speaker, this one is designed to facilitate creativity and interactive music.

Small speaker with a mighty sound. Love this Sony wireless portable speaker made for a party atmosphere with flashing lights that synch to the beat of the music. Downloading the app is a must to get everything out of the speaker that you would want for a party. This speaker is guaranteed to enhance any party. You can put the speaker on end or flat depending on the space you have to put it which makes it very versatile. I also have the next size up speaker that you can play and have the music synch together and have more party lights going to the beat of the music. Makes the sound pretty unique with 2 different speakers synched together in the same room.double stereo sound or surround yourself. There is a LIVE sound button to make you feel like you are at a concert. I just love the Extra Bass that comes out of this small size speaker. It is great for playing around a bonfire because it is dustproof and waterproof to take anywhere without worry about wrecking the speaker. It is shock proof, so it is made to withstand the drops and falls to the ground without worry. Without having the lights on, you can listen to music for approximately 12 hours straight, less with the lights on, but still plenty of time to party outside for hours. I highly recommend this and the other sizes it comes in for synching your music and having even more fun.

This portable speaker is a nice size for taking on the go, small enough to take along, large enough to give a great sound. The extra bass works nicely, deep and rich. The party booster is a fun addition, especially if you have multiples. Just tap and you can add your own drum sounds to the songs. Lighting is white only, I wish it had the multiple colors, but it works as it should. The connection has been my only problem with this speaker. It sometimes takes turning the speaker off and restarting to get it to connect to BT. Connecting to a compatible speaker was a practice in patience. I was able to finally connect with party chain after multiple attempts. The instructions included were minimal. Once connected though it worked very well. Sound and lights were in sync even when in different rooms. Being waterproof, dustproof and shockproof gives peace of mind when using outdoors and in a crowded party. I really like this speaker. I feel the connection problems warrant no more than 1/2 star so I've decided to keep my rating at a 5. I'll be using this portable speaker often.

I already own the bigger siblings to the SRS-XB22, but wanted this smaller speaker for ease of packing when I travel for work and suitcase space is at a premium. Although I have been thoroughly impressed with the larger speakers, I wasn't really expecting much from this little guy as I was just looking for something to put out background noise in hotel rooms. I quickly realized my low expectations were completely unwarranted. This little guy puts out lots of sound that is amazingly deep, rich, and detailed. Now, it's obviously not audiophile quality and you aren't going to make any eardrums bleed with it, but the XB22 is a solid contender with speakers twice its size and cost. It includes many of the same "fun" options of its larger siblings like LED lighting (white only, not all the way around the speaker cabinet as larger ones), wireless party chain, and party booster. Overall, I'd say this speaker is a fantastic value and you get lots of bang for your buck. Extremely portable and full of good sound, the XB22 is a can't miss.
