Sound that ShakesPosted
Simple Review: The sound on this speaker is amazing and the fun feature of the colors is amazing to the beat. One issue that I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to but still wish it wasn't there. Is the fact that you have one of those proprietary cables instead of a USB C or Micro-USB like on the models below this one. Extended Review: Let's blast through the unboxing that includes the very generic massive unit which is clearly built well and designed to survive the moisture of my world. One issue I had above and continue to have here is the circler connection which means you can't just use any charger you need this annoying cable which is less likely to be found anywhere you go. I'm sure Sony had some charging problems that require this cable but still don't like that the model below this one uses a basic USB and this one doesn't. Performance is where you will look at that one little complaint and say "I don't care!" The sound is amazing, the bass is strong and it keeps it's clarity no matter the volume level. This is the speaker I grab whenever I want to entertain or just close my eyes and let the music take me. Sound is simply the best I've ever heard in a speaker at this cost point. It's on-par of a speaker I've that's TWICE it's cost. Last thing for performance is battery life, which it does have USB ports on the back to charge up units on the go so if that matters to you than enjoy. I've been using it now for about a week and I'ven't had to charge it yet. I use it for 2-3 hours in the morning and at night and still haven't killed it. Battery life is solid without really have to go to in-depth with it. Wrapping up is this worth it...YESS a thousand times Yes! It's so close to a perfect 5 star it's sad. Once they change out that awful port than it would be the perfect Bluetooth speaker but until than I would say it's easily worth the money. Hope my review helps and thanks for reading it.

Great portable speakerPosted
The Sony SRS-XB41 is a high-quality portable speaker that is extremely versatile. It is suitable for just about everywhere: bookshelf, house party, open room, outdoors, pool/beach. Mine was black and covered with a fabric that was easy to dust off and clean. It has a similar profile to other portable speakers and is unobtrusive in most locations. I used it mainly to stream music from my Android phone, and the music sounded very nice. There was a nice combination of high-range, mid-range, and bass. The unit has a Live Sound button that produced the most balanced sound for my taste. It felt I could hear music clearly no matter where I was in relation to the speaker, which is nice in outdoor settings. If more bass is desired, there is an Extra Bass feature that is similar to other Sony products. I found that the Extra Bass was handy at higher volumes. To me, the most important feature of this speaker is that it is waterproof (IP67 rating) and dustproof. It hasn't gotten particularly dusty, but I did test the waterproofing by giving the unit a quick dunk in a sink and it continued to function flawlessly. The unit does have lighting that can be turned off, or even changed. I didn't care for the light as it will drain the battery but it looks cool in a dark setting. I was able to get 20 hours out of the unit once it was fully charged and without using the lighting feature. It comes with an AC adapter for charging, and will also charge via USB but does not include that cord. The unit does have tap functionality which allows the user to touch the speaker to make DJ-style sounds (scratch, snare, drum, cowbell), and control the volume and lightning. I am not a DJ but my kids did enjoy the DJ noises. You can also use voice commands via Siri/Google to control the speaker. I would recommend downloading the Sony Music Center app to get the most functionality of the speaker; it was easy to use. One last feature is that you can connect up to 100 of these units via the Sony app to create a massive amount of sound. With all of the light controls, DJ tools, and great quality music, it could be amazing to hook up several of these speakers for small party venues. This isn't something you can do with many portable speakers. In summary, this speaker produces great sound and seems very durable. It lasts a long time between charges, is waterproof/dustproof, and is appropriate for any location for any use. If I were a DJ or had a small party venue, I would even consider this product for business use.

Want a Perfect Speaker? This is it.Posted
Every now & then a perfect speaker comes along, and the Sony SRS-XB41 falls into that category. Sound quality on the speaker, which is the first thing you should be concerned with, is outstanding. Deep, solid bass makes the music boom, but of course with the option to disable the "extra bass" (thus the "XB" in the product number) by clicking on the "Live" feature with the push of a button. But once you listen in XB mode, you'll never use "Live" again. The "Live" feature sounds tinny and empty after you hear the bass pumped out by the speaker. The LED lights around the entire top & bottom edges, as well as flashing speakers & 2 flashing white strobes, illuminate in sync with the music, giving it a party feel, and all lighting can be controlled with a single button (on/off) or tweaked to any of a few million colors using the app on your phone. I found myself putting a single color in place to match the room it's in & turning off the flashing strobe. I'm not holding raves at the house, so didn't need the extra flashing. The speaker can be paired with another similar model speaker to make it a single-side speaker (i.e. you can make one speaker a "left" speaker and the other "right", allowing you to spread them out for stereo sound). Or, you can pair it with another similar model speaker using a single button using the "Wireless Party Chain" mode & extend the sound onto dozens of other Sony SRS speakers, extending your music throughout the house. The outside is a tough fabric, mine was in blue but other colors are available. The device is also waterproof for up to 3 minutes in water, great if you're using this around water. One warning is that the instructions claim that the waterproof features only cover "fresh water" and not pool water or salt water, which is more likely where you'll find yourself dropping the speaker, so I can't attest to the actual waterproof capabilities if you drop it in the pool or at the lake or beach. It also requires that the back panel of buttons & plugs be sealed with the cover, which further opens it to a risk, so just keep it closed. The battery is enough to last hours (official documentation says up to 24 hours), but also allows you to steal power to charge your phone with a built-in USB port, turning the speaker into a charging bank, which is great if you need a quick charge while on-the-go. Other ports on the back include AUX in and a micro USB port for charging (can we please start transitioning to USB-C? @@@@@@@ . These ports need to be sealed with the single rubber flap on the back when around water to maintain the waterproof capabilities. The app allows you to control the speaker, including speaker pairing, lighting, and sound quality, but in a frustrating feature you then have to download a second "embedded" app called Fiestable to be able to control the lights. Not sure why you don't just make it one app. You cannot uninstall Fiestable without installing the Music Center app. The only downside to the speaker is it's a bit large (11.5" wide and coming in at 3.5 pounds), something you're not going to want to make a handheld speaker, but who would anyway? At the end of the day, if you're looking for an amazing speaker with incredible sound to take on-the-go, the SRS-XB41 is your speaker.

Cool Party Speaker!Posted
This is a pretty nifty wireless speaker from Sony. Out of the box it has the speaker, instructions and a charging cable. In a nifty twist on portable bluetooth speakers, this one seems especially designed with parties in mind. The shape and weight are such that it can be held comfortably hold in one hand. I was able to hold it easily, and then my children took turns with it and didn't have any issues with the weight either. It comes out of the box about 70% charged (your mileage may vary, of course) so you can start using it right away. Set up is pretty easy, as Sony has a QR code right on the instructions. Simply scan this to your phone and it will take you right to the set up page. Download the app and you'll be on your way. The app guides you through bluetooth pairing, as well as finds nearly every app on your phone you'd likely want to use with the speaker. There is an "add app" button as well, in case it doesn't find an app you want to use with it. There are a couple of sound modes, but the one you'll likely want to use is the "clear audio" setting which automatically adjusts. It sounds very good, but you can adjust to a few other "bass boosting" pre sets in case you need more of a "party" sound. Each mode sounds good, and is very crisp and clear. I didn'te some distortion along the treble lines and had to spend a few minutes fiddling with a balance between my phone volume control and the speaker volume control. If my phone was turned all the way up the speaker sounded distorted in the high ranges, but it corrected itself if I turned my phone volume down and used the speaker volume instead. The speakers niftiest features are the "party" features: the lights and the "party booster" features. The lights have TWELVE different settings (as well as "off") depending on what you have going on. There is a strobe effect, "hot" (which uses the reds and warm colors), "cool" (mostly blues), the "rave" (pretty much all of them flashing on and off), and a number of monochrome settings where the speaker remains one color the entire time. I would think this would be very cool for an outdoor party in the summer, whether it's a wilder party, or you just want to combine speakers with a mood and have them in the background. The lights look great--they'ren't dimmable, but they'ren't super bright, either so it wouldn't be overwhelming to have them near a table or a spot where people are going to be gathered. The "Party Booster" is a nifty idea...with this mode enabled you can hold the speaker in one hand, then "tap" on it on any side (other then the spot you're holding) and get a specific sound--I included a screenshot below to show the five areas you can hit. One bit of advice--tapping doesn't really work, especially with kids. Striking it with an open palm works best (like playing bongos almost). I had to experiment with a few different ways but once I got the hang of it I had no issues. My kids LOVED this, and I could see it being a big hit at a kid's party, wedding reception or party along those lines. I didn't really get it at first, but Sony has included a handy "how to enjoy Party Booster" link right in the app that demonstrates it very well. The sounds are changeable, but mostly fall into percussion lines. You can go with their presets, or you can do the best thing and customize them so each spot is cowbell--"MORE COWBELL" will never be an issue again!!! You can drum along with the song playing and it responds really well! Another nifty feature is you can set this up to "loop" with other speakers so they're all playing the same song, and all have the same settings. I would think this would be cool even in a teaching environment for teaching basic music and rhythm to children. It would also be a blast at a party with several of these around the room for people to pick up and dance with! The bluetooth has a very long range, I was able to cross my yard and it held the signal. It wasn't until I was on the sidewalk in front of my neighbors house that it lost it. It held a good, solid signal with no cut outs or loss until the signal cut completely. There are also several other connection options including a USB and charging port, though strangely there was no audio RCA jack. The charge seems to hold very well. It was 70% charged out of the box (it has a vocal setting where it will tell you the the charge left when you turn the speaker on)--my kids played with it for at least an hour and it was still 90% charged when they were done. They had the lights on the entire time in various settings, as well as the Party Booster. The speaker so far appears to be very durable--my kids dropped it (onto carpet) several times while trying to take their turn with it (i.e. rip it out of my other kid's hands) and there's not a scratch on it. This is NOT the recommended use for it obviously, but it should hold up okay under adult supervision. It is waterproof and dustproof. They show the speaker sitting in the sand on the box, but the material sure seems like it would hold sand very well so you may want to try and cover it in that environment. Overall this is a fun portable speaker that Sony has designed with some pretty specific uses in mind. If you're in the market for a good portable bluetooth speaker this one works very well. If you're in the market for a speaker with the bells and whistles (literally) then you can't go wrong with this one.
