360 Spatial Audio different experience when compared to Dirac. Setup easy but needed owners manual to interpret sound modes.

This perfectly replaced my aging STRDN1080. The updated features and functionality brought an increased ease to enjoying content across my devices. I was better able to tune surround sound while not having to manually adjust sound fields as often.
Hi BMont, Excellent choice! We're pleased to hear that you are satisfied with your purchased. Thank you for choosing Sony. Erin

Excellent reciever. I have it set up in my basement to control many video game systems out to two televisions.
The only flaw I found is that when the second tv is configured it limits the ability for the first tv to control the receiver volume from hdmi.

The receiver seems to work well, but sometimes when we go from the Dish Satellite Receiver to the regular TV, the sound can be very loud or very low and needs to be adjusted.

Alot of people shy away from sony given their reputation from the late 90s, these are their new line of receivers including the es models, the receiver is really good & the soundstage can really blow you away. Give it a try & if you are not satisfied you have 15 days to return it :)

Got this as a Christmas gift, and I've really enjoyed it over the last few weeks.
Pros:
- it can get loud- like really loud. I was a bit worried as I was moving from an older Yamaha unit that was a beast (the lights would flicker when I turned it on). The sony unit is no slouch, though. Able to get uncomfortably loud in my 5.1.2 setup.
-clear, neutral sound. This is my first Sony receiver, and it's a different sound profile than my old yamaha, but I like it. It drives my klipsch reference towers perfectly.
- lots of connections! I love how many hmdi devices this can support. I never have to swap any cables around.
- its physical size is great. It's a bit tall, but way narrower than my last receiver- I imagine it would fit on almost any TV stand, or in most cabinets.
- sleek look (subjective), but I have this in an open cabinet where anyone can see it, and it isn't an eyesore.
- it supports 4k 120hz and HDR pass-through very well. I can almost seamlessly switch between my gaming PC and my PS5 to my OLED TV, and the picture is crystal clear, with buttery smooth refresh rates.
- little/no input latency. Prior to this unit- I had my PS5 and PC directly connected to my TV. I now have both the PS5 and PC connected to the Sony receiver, then to my TV. I don't notice any perceivable difference in responsiveness when gaming.
- spacial 360 sound is cool when listening to stereo content like music from spotify. Offers a more unique listening experience.
- super easy to setup speakers in the menus. Much easier than my old Yamaha.
Cons:
- I don't see any way to quickly adjust things like bass/treble, without going into the receiver settings (which stops whatever input you were watching/listening to). This got annoying becuase some content is mixed differently than others, especially in regards to bass.
- I'm not able to manually set my bass crossover? In the speaker menus, you can only set certain crossovers on your other speakers, not bass. That seemed odd to me.
- the auto-calibration is just "okay". It got in the ballpark for most of my speakers, but I ended up manually tweaking speakers and dB levels.
- the remote is kind of blah. I feel like there aren't many quick adjustments you can make from it.
- only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports that suport 4k/120hz, the rest are HDMI 2.0 and max out at 4k/60hz. I wish more of the ports were 2.1.
Thanks for sharing your review and experience with the AN1000 receiver. We're glad that you like the sound quality, design, responsiveness, and user-friendly functions of the receiver. Your feedback about the equalizer, auto-calibration, remote, and HDMI functions of the unit is also appreciated. Thank you for choosing Sony!
