Happy New Year's to me!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. I bought this to replace a merely 3 year old Samsung that stopped playing bluerays which makes no sense. I have far too many bluerays to not have a player and I didn't want another one that couldn't last. I'm not a Sony fan At All, but the holiday deal was too good to pass up and I'm so glad I got it. Picture is excellent, function is super easy, clean look and getting the wifi up was a no brainer. Keep in mind there's no hdmi cable but I just used the one I had for my Samsung blueray player and it worked a treat. It's true it does take a minute for it to start, but why am I in a hurry? You won't be sorry to purchase this. I'm not and that's from a Sony- hater

Good features, some issues with operation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like the features of this Sony UHD/BD player (Dolby Vision, etc). Good value for the money. I did have some setup problems, as it didn't like going through my new Onkyo 4K A/V receiver. I had to directly connect the Sony player to the TV, so that I could get the firmware updated. Then I switched it over to go through the Onkyo receiver again. The picture quality is really good, and I like the upscaling. I do sometimes have problems with the Netflix streaming. It will stream for long periods of time, but sometimes it will stop and go back to the player's main menu and won't start the Netflix app again until I power cycle the player. It's happened twice since I've had the player, but it's infrequent given how much has been streamed through it. Hoping that a future firmware update will address that.

Solid Sony Product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy to setup & use with a great picture in wonderfully compact frame. HDR compatible out of the box and Sony has announced a summer 2018 firmware update to add Dolby Vision.

Finally, a great blu ray player.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned few sony blu ray players in the past. Some worked great but did not support Amazon prime. Some supported amazon but had frequent freezing issues that can be frustrating. This blu ray model has been performing perfectly. Finally, no more freezing issues. It is fast and dependable, and it supports amazon prime very efficiently. The price is extremely reasonable, considering the superior quality of audio and video features. Its cpu is very fast also. I'm extremely happy with this unit.

Worth it
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first 4k blu ray player and I love it. Bought it on sale so it was really affordable and I'd say it's a great starter for people moving into these type of movie watching formats. No problems whatsoever and works great with my 4k TV despite not being a sony. Although if you do have a sony I recommend this player as it does support Dolby Atmos which I've read is supposed to be this amazing sound quality. The player itself is nice and sleek. The wifi is a great feature as it means you can use apps like hulu or netflix.

Excellent audio. Streaming freezes sometimes.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is certainly a much better unit than my older Samsung Blu-ray player. The sound is terrific if you are watching a Blu-ray or downloading directly to the player. It even replicated Dolby Atmos on a newer Blu-ray disc I watched. The selection of streaming apps that are preloaded is good. Wish I could download others that SONY did not preload. There were a few times the player froze. No amount of button pushing would get it going. So, I unplugged it and it worked after I plugged it back in. I'm not a fan of the small remote included. The buttons are difficult to see and find unless the lights are on. Overall, a very good Blu-ray player and I glad I bought it.

Great Price for a good product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems to handle all the 4k disks I have loaded to play. Easy interface, up scales 1080 disks flawlessly. Price is lower than the quality that you get.

Best bang for the buck
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't really want to buy a new bluray player since I've been streaming a lot more recently, but I decided to upgrade to 4k because my old player broke down. I researched this one quite a bit. I have a LG OLED TV that can play both Dolby and HDR10, so I wanted to make sure I had a player that did both. I don't own a lot of 4k discs so the best value out of this is upscaling blurays discs to 4k. The picture looks incredible on my TV. The player is also very fast, which I wasn't expecting.

Great 4K Blu Ray player for DV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this 4K Blu Ray player because of its Dolby Vision support. I originally planned on buying the Oppo 203 but it became discontinued before I had a chance. I'm still surprised that there are so few players that support DV because there is a considerable about of content available for it now. I haven't had any other players to compare this to but it is simple to use, has a great picture and sound, and is a good deal (especially if you can find it on sale). Would highly recommend if you have a Dolby Vision capable TV.

Simplicity is its greatest asset!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was so easy to integrate into our home theater system - simplicity is its greatest asset! It is easy to set up and easy to use. 4K discs look and sound fantastic and this product also has the advantage of upgrading Blu-ray discs and DVDs. This product is frequently on sale and when on sale it is highly affordable.

A fine UHD 4k BR Player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Sony player in many years, and aside from one complaint revolving around some software update issues I'm experiencing, this has been a solid, feature rich UHD Blu-Ray player that puts out the audio and video that I expect. I bought this particular player because of the Dolby Vision capabilities, and they do not disappoint either. In regards to the software update issue - it doesn't really cause my a great deal of pain to not have the latest software update immediately, and it's not causing me any playback issues, so I'm not taking away any stars for that. Software is finicky, and if you're not used to that by now, you should readjust your expectations in regards to interacting with technology going forward. I'm also sure this will be something that not very many people experience. Bottom line - this is a great player at a solid price point, especially when you can get it on sale.

A quality player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this player in the first week of September and decided to wait for a couple of months before reviewing its performance here. In over two months of use, my unit has played both Blu-Ray and 4K UHD movies without any issue. The unit works with my WiFi router and comes with a number of pre-loaded apps to access streaming services, such as Hulu, Netflix, and MLB-TV. With a 4K HDR disk, the resolution is sharp and the colors are amazingly vivid. To accommodate my home's physical setup, I selected this particular model for the dual HDMI output ports, (one for my 4K UHD TV, the other going to my stereo.) Disks with 5.1 or 7.1 audio have delivered cinema quality sound through my 7.2 home stereo system. For action and science fiction films, you must have a subwoofer! Disks with 2.0 audio, like the blu-ray African Queen, will not deliver as much low-end kicks to your derrière obviously. Thus far, my only complaint is with the RMT-VB201U remote control's layout. (Size: 1.75 inches wide, 5.125 inches long.) Its play, pause, next track, prior track, reverse, forward, and stop buttons require careful operation due to their size and how tightly the designer grouped them together. I cannot operate these controls by touch alone, and must view the remote to match my finger to the proper button. As a result, I've pressed the wrong button halting the movie and returning to the unit's main application launch screen. The remote's best controls are the navigation buttons because they're about three times larger than the playback controls.

Nice Blu-Ray Player
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I chose this unit because it had all of the features I wanted and the price was very reasonable, especially since I got it on sale. It is very much plug-n-play. I connected the HDMI cable, plugged it in, and turned it on. That is it! Just put in my Wi-fi password and it connected and immediately updated the software. The menus are easy to navigate. The picture is outstanding! The sound is okay. I may need to make some adjustments there, but overall I am very happy with my new Blu-Ray player.

Dolby Vision and HDR10 4K player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is tough to beat this 4K player's capabilities at promotional price of about $150. Unlike other 4K players which chooses to cater mostly to HDR10 only , this player can play either Dolby Vision and HDR10. It handles Dolby Atmos well and automatically sets it if your AV receiver, speakers and TV have such capability. It can actually play MP4 video and HD audio FLAC files files from usb drive as well as regular music CD. It has built in streaming apps such as Netflix but I am using those encoded in my TV for convenience.

4K Ultra HD Eye Candy
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A true bargain for the price in comparison to the next model up in the Sony line. I've noticed how my other Blu-Ray discs are upconverted with amazing colors and audio. Of course you will want to pair it with 4K television to really get the true experience! Easy to install and connect, built-in Wi-Fi is fast, but I rather have it hard-wired with an ethernet cable for faster streaming, especially if using the built-in streaming apps.

Great blu ray even if you don’t yet own a 4K tv
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own a regular 1080p tv for now and this blu ray player makes my current blu rays and dvds look great! Easy to setup and WiFi is awesome. Unit itself is a little small but sturdy nonetheless. The tray that pops out to accept the disc is fragile so I’d advise to use the remote or button on the player itself. Lots of features for the price although I haven’t gone into any streaming yet. So far, another great item from Sony!

Great playback in a small package
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like most DVD/Blu-ray players these days, this is a small unit (not a bad thing). While construction is lightweight, performance is great. No freezes or other issues with this latest firmware updated player. Passes 4k/HDR & Dolby Vision signals to my Marantz receiver & Vizio TV beautifully. Sounds is great, although I believe that your receiver, speakers & home environment are the more important factors for good sound. Get it on sale & enjoy HQ sound & picture for a modest price.

I almost gave it three stars...
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wellllllll ummmmm. Lets start with the pros: - Sony quality as far as features go - It was one of the few blue ray players around at the time of purchase which could bee a bad thing. - Has apps pre-installed like hulu, youtube, netflix, amazon prime video and like 2 others that ive never heard of. Cons: - Sometimes freezes (Ill turn it on or try to, and it just wont turn on. Does the same when trying to turn it off) Ive had this same issue with a previous Sony blueray player of the past which is why i ended up buying a Samsung Blueray player which has lasted now 5months longer then any song blueray player within the same price range ($120-$180) - Doesnt seem to allow my LG smart TV's remote to control it so i have to use this remote independently if i want to use it to watch movies with it whether it be with the blue-ray player or using the pre-installed apps. - It may, but i havent seen a way to download your own media apps onto this blue ray player - Its Upscaling to 4k isnt good after hooking this up after my sunsung blueray player which definitely did a better job with 4k upscaling using the available online services. PROS: - It was available to purchase when i was in the market for a Blue-ray player. - seems to be louder (audio coming from this) then my Samsung blue-ray player it replaced. - has a rather small profile for the features it has - remote buttons are large and easy to maneauver Verdict: I like this dvd player, i was just dissapointed with it here and there when it comes to it freezing, it seems to operate and respond alittle slow, and its 4k upscaling is trash as my video output looks kinda mushy. You can definitely tell its trying very hard to upscale video to 4k but it doesnt do very well at it. I want to mind you guys that ive done nothing different but disconnec the cables from my samsung DVD player and plugged it right up to this one and made sure all of the settings in this dvd player matches the samsungs as much as possible and i just wasnt happy with the results. The only reason i havent returned this was because i just dont feel like paying $230+ for a dvd player.

Great 4K Blu-ray Player!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great 4K Blu-ray player. It’s a little pricey but overall it’s easy to use and does what it’s supposed to do. I wish the interface was a little bit more modern or updated as it currently operates using the same you’d find in any Sony Blu-ray players you might have purchased in the past. It doesn’t necessarily feel cutting edge and does feel a little outdated at time, however, for the right price it’s definitely a solid buy. Good quality, reliable, and a tried and true brand. I recommend this to anyone in the market for a 4K Blu-ray player.
