This X700 pairs well and renders beautiful video on my 900H. What sold me was this unit being a true Dolby Vision player. The remote works well and has all the needed buttons and more, although I wish the remote was a little larger, for larger hands. If you can find this for under $200, I'd say go for it.

Best Standalone 4k Ultra BR Player Around

First off, allow me to preface by saying that I don't think that any 4kBR devices could earn 5 stars. For that we'd need them running on Android TV. But that's not a thing, so 4 stars is good! This model is great in the era of PS5 shortages. I haven't looked up the cost of the XBox One X, but at the time I bought this player, it was significantly more expensive...and I'm a Playstation dude. **note that if the XBox One X is less expensive or only a bit more, get that instead** The menu responsivity on this device is adequate, which is to say, better than all the others. Sony uses a more powerful processor than other manufacturers. Anyway, so here'd the important details besides the fact that it plays said 4k BluRays just fine: -it has Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Vudu, YouTube, and some streaming TV service I'd not heard of. If you need Disney+, you have to get it through Hulu, and the quality may be far inferior if it uses Hulu's godawful compression settings. If you need HBO, then Amazon Prime can give you that, and for better quality than HBO apps themselves. Just know that if you're a Latter Day Trekkie then all bets are off, because CBS is not a part of this device and never will be (doesn't seem to be updated any longer). -it has a second HDMI cable /just/ to route sound out of, which is really cool. You can send sound directly to a soundbar in lossless PCM. As far as settings are concerned, I recommend setting it to use your TV's resolution, and using "Upscaling 1". Turn off 'IP noise reduction', and make sure that 24p is disabled for network content. This will ensure that you don't encounter sync issues when playing content through a TV that does its own image and sound processing.

I love this 4k hdr player. It starts up fast, and has a great picture. I also love the fact that it is the size of most normal blu-ray players. A lot of the new 4k players are very long. This one fits good on my entertainment table. It is only 8 inches wide approximately, whereas most of the other ones are 12 inches-wide. I must say that my regular blu-rays look amazing when being upscaled to 4k. You can never go wrong with sony.

Sony 4K player is light and compact easy to put in my entertainment center. It was easy to set up. It plays the discs fairly quick and Netflix almost instantaneously. When coupled with my Sony Bravia 65 in x900f and Nakamichi 9.2 surround sound system it keeps you amazed the whole time while watching a movie. The picture and sound quality is great. I would highly recommend this product.

Bought this player to watch my blu-rays and some 4k UHD movies I've bought and boy does it deliver. Have it set up with my Sony 900E and content looks vibrant, deep blacks, and great contrast. My favorite movie I've tested it with is Avengers: Infinity War. It was on sale and it even has Dolby Vision. I do not get DV, but it's good to know in case I grab another TV that does have it. Over all, this is a great choice.

Picking a Sony DVD player was the only brand we would buy. We have had several of their players throughout our 40+ years of buying electronics. They have always been top notch in performance and easy of use. This new player is small, uncomplicated and easy to use. It has all the features we were looking for at a very reasonable price. We lover our new player!

It’s easy to load the apps for streaming, I wish it could stream apple and Disney +. But no one else does either. When running Thru my amp and hardwired surround system it gives me the kick I’ve been wanting in my home theater. It seems the Sony players keep going out of date with a lot of apps , so this solves that issue.

This is a decent entry-level Blu-ray DVD player, easy setup with the ability to stream with connected Wi-Fi to your normal apps like Netflix Pandora. You do have to buy an HDMI cable or as ability to connect with RCA cables but for best picture quality you'll definitely want a quality HDMI cable. I've always had excellent luck with the quality and reliability of my Sony TVs I hope this will be the experience with their DVD Blu-ray players.

Really happy with this so far. Displays a spectacular picture for Dolby and HDR content. The device is sleek and fairly small, stores easily in the cabinet of my TV stand. Super simple setup and use. The menu isn't super sleek looking and I won't ever use the apps since I have a smart TV, so I can't speak much to that. But this seems like a really great Blu-ray player so far.

Compact, quiet and reliable. This UHD player also offers streaming capability and several apps including Netflix. The only minor issue is the small remote which will be preferred by some but not by others. It also supports Dolby Vision and has more features than the X800 for less cost.

I needed a 4k blueray to pair with my Sony X900H TV and a Sony of course was my first choice with dolby vision and atmos. The Sony X700 is a perfect compliment with outstanding picture quality and sound. My 4k TV and Pioneer 4k Elite receiver are connected together via the HDMI ARC so the blueray only needed one HDMI plugged into the receivers blueray HDMI connection and walla. It is very easy to setup and it guides you with ease. The streaming apps are a nice bonus but have them on the TV as well so not a biggy for that. Sony 4k HDX, Dolby vision and atmos with Sonys famous picture quality provides just outstanding pictures, colors and am just in awe. I considered the X8002 but the x700 had all the features I needed at a much better price without losing quality. It had the latest updates already installed and playback of my 4k UHD bluerays are flawless as I expected.

My main requirement was a disc player to support the HDR10 and Dolby Vision formats that my Vizio M-series 4K tv supports. This player does that, and it looks great! I also stream 4K from Netflix and some shows are Dolby Vision. When streaming those shows my tv identifies the playback content as exactly Dolby Vision or HDR10. This player runs quiet and is very slim/compact.

The size and weight work well where I use it, My primary purpose for this player is for Disc playback on my 4K TV. Picture is Fantastic, Audio going through my surround sound is like being there. Don't use the streaming yet, my TV has it as well. I hooked it up and seems to work flawlessly, but I have not used this device for long periods of streaming.

In my opinion, this is the best 4K player you can get in this price range. It even beats its pricier brother, the X800. Though the 800 series is build more like a tank and a has a slightly larger remote, you can't beat the fact that for $60 less (using current sale prices on both) you get the same video/sound quality and the addition of Dolby Vison, which the 800 series doesn't have and more than likely will not get. There were a few audio/video settings that I went in and changed, where I felt the default was not adequate, but nothing drastic. You can tell that this is more cheaply made than others on the market, and it does come with a few less features than the 800 series (Hi Res Audio, Bluetooth to name the biggest ones), but if you are just looking for a bare bones high quality 4K player, you can't go wrong with this one.

Upscales regular DVDs to near 4K UHD quality

Like many people, we have hundreds of DVDs. Should we spend thousands of dollars replacing them with 4K UHD blu-rays? (Then what will we do when they come out with 132K UUHHDD quadruple blu-ray disks?) It never ends as technology is always improving. No, we're not going to continue to spend money on the same things over and over again. So, we bought this Sony unit hoping for the best. Believe it or not, this 4K UHD blu-ray player upscales older DVDs to near 4K UHD quality just as it claims. Couldn't tell you how the tech and algorithms work, but they do. Just watched Alien from 1979. The picture was smooth, not granulated, totally watchable and enjoyable. (The alien was as creepy and ugly as ever.) This Sony blu-ray unit just saved us thousands of dollars. We haven't touched the other features of this unit yet because saving our DVD collection was the first priority here. Well done Sony.

So far so good. Finally bought a 4k TV and bought this to go with it. Both are Sony products, and pair up great with more features than I had originally thought. Simple setup, and does a great job upconverting older dvds. Haven't used the wifi capability yet, so can't speak to that at this point.

I was debating whether going to 4K from blue ray was worth it. It definitely is! Got this player on an incredible Black Friday sale and it is wonderful. The picture is clear, it’s the perfect size, and it has streaming capabilities. Make sure you get a 4K HDMI cable, as it doesn’t come with. Insignia brand cable will work just fine.
