For the ability to play blu ray and dvd titles since my old one went caput. It seems to have a lot of bells and whistles that I don't need. But whatever, its probably okay for all the extra stuff too!

The additional apps are useful in certain situations. This player is in a teenager's room and she is excited to have Netflix on her older non-smart TV.

So as long as I had it, I started to use it with one tv in house. Now we realize that it can see closed captioning on DVDs from the library that cannot be detected by some of our tvbuilt-in DVD players. This unit moves from tv to tv now, if necessary. Might have to buy a longer cable to reach that wall-mount tv!

Sound quality is amazing
