Excellent player would highly recommend upscale regular blu Ray's and plays 4k disks like a champ. Highly recommend this unit. Make sure you get the high end 4k HDMI cables that will make this look just incredible with your high end 4k disks Sony is a champ

Always been a Samsung buyer but this is by far the best 4k player on the market

So I purchased this to go along with my 4K TV in hopes of having a better TV, streaming an movie experience. The video quality is great, the streaming and disc. The only issues that I seem to have , when using my apps like Netflix there is a crash or the app will not open. I have to disconnect my player and in some cases reset my device. With Amazon there seems to be a slight delay but that usually resolves itself so I can live with that. However my final issue, this is completely random, when playing a blue-ray or 4K disc the device will just shut down and return to the home screen. I have done all my updates but this is still a bad issue to have. My last 4K player (different brand) did the same thing but I did not buy the additional warranty and I ended up throwing it in the trash because I was having such an issue with playing discs.

The quality of this Sony Blu-Ray begins with its construction... it's heavier than most blu-ray players, made of better materials and just a bunch of cheap plastic. It loads up pretty quickly and the quality of video playback is excellent. I haven't tried any of the apps on it yet, since we have a Smart TV, but I've heard the apps are very responsive and the Wi-Fi capabilities are better than most players. We've played probably 8-10 DVDs and Blu-Ray discs on it so far, and every one has been excellent. The player is quiet and responds to commands from the remote control immediately. We had an LG Blu-Ray player previously, which was slow to load up and the Wi-Fi functionality was so-so at best. So far I like this Sony player much better, and it pairs nicely with our Sony TV.

I gave it five stars because it met expectations at a great price - got it on sale at BBY for $80 off. Wifi reception is much better than the 2-year-old Samsung player that it replaced - both Netflix and Amazon stream without interruption, which is a vast improvement over the old Samsung. Once I got a proper HDMI cable, the 4K player is flawless.

I've been wanting a 4K Blu-ray player for a while now, but was waiting for either the prices to come down, or catch one on sale. Well I found this as an open box for under $150. I have previously owned Sony DVD and Blu-ray players, so I had no hesitations about trying this one. It does not disappoint! One reason I wanted to try it - it plays SACDs, which I have always wanted to try, but didn't want to invest in a player strictly for those. It plays about any disc out there. Setup was a breeze, as most of these really should be nowadays. Have played Blu-ray, 4K Blu-ray, SACD and DVD audio discs with no issues at all. Not a ton of streaming apps, but I mostly need Netflix and Prime Video. I have a Roku that has others. Overall very happy and highly recommended!

I have seen this player online and it is very popular. There was a fiasco in the store because this particular model is an updated version of the UX800 (one extra zero there). This is the only player I have seen that comes with an HDMI (albeit a short one) & the audio quality is phenomenal to me, at least compared to previous players I have had. One should note that this is a more serious player, as it is massive compared to any of the other Sony ones I have purchased through the years. However, I am happy with this and do not foresee myself purchasing any other unless this one every gives out, seeing as it handles all the top of the market quality specs!

Most of my set up consists of Samsung units but Samsung went and lost their mind by designing their blu ray players with a curve and that was an automatic no buy from me and glad it was. The Sony UBP-UX80 is built like a tank and looks great in my home theater setup. Have watched 2 4K blu rays so far and one regular blu ray and it had absolutely no issues with either. What I do recommend is that once you get it, make sure you do the updates and then reset everything to factory and start from scratch with the new update applied. Also, disable the network features if you’re not going to use them as that will free up the player to focus on what it was meant to do and that is to play blu ray discs. Overall, very happy and would definitely recommend this to friends.

This is a smart player and easy to use options. It plays 4k CD blue ray. Amazing sound and pairs with my Sony TV. My wife uses it for Netflix and Amazon prime movies.

This player is pretty much what I come to expect from Sony. It is solidly built, easy to set up and in all the areas I have tried. I do not have attached to a 4K TV so I can’t evaluate that. It has a good selection of apps which include Amazon Prime, Netflix, VUDU, Pandora and YouTube. There are other apps available. My only complaints would be the lack of an optical audio connection which I use with my sound bar, and it did forget that YouTube was one of the apps I selected, but it was readily found and works fine.

Great player for the money. Solid construction, very quiet, fast disc loading. Playback looks and sounds great. The remote is decently laid out. No backlight, but that's a pretty rare feature. A nice selling point for the UBP-UX80 (as well as the other models in this line) is that it plays a very wide variety of video file formats. If you have files that won't play on a Roku Ultra, for example, this player will likely be able to play it.

We are very happy with our purchase of this Sony 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player the picture and sound quality is fantastic. This Sony player even makes the picture quality on regular Blu-Ray movies great as well. I would highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a great player with great sound and picture quality. We also like that you can get onto Amazon movies and Netflix thru the player. Great Great 4K Blu-Ray Player

Awesome Surround system for starters. Easy to hook/ set up! Great audio and 4K video output.

This is really good for 4k and blue ray. easy to use and setup. Regular DVDs upscale VERY clearly. However, I am getting weird digital glitches on standard DVDs only. I may need to exchange it. Also, I want to stream lossless audio from my local server thru this and I suspect it can't handle the bandwidth because it stutters constantly. So if you want 4k and BluRay use only, this is 5 star.

the user platform is easy to use and program. Allows you to watch a disk or stream. Picture is absolutely fantastic!! Purchased as an open box item (which I saved a lot of cash) so it came without a remote. the Sony TV remote I have works some of the functions, but not all... had to order a remote to go with it.

I purchased this to use with a 4K TV I had purchased a while back. I wasn’t sure if I would see a difference in the picture but I did. My dvd’s, blue ray and 4ks all play well with excellent picture quality. Streaming picture quality is also better. Out the box and ready to use in about 10 minutes.

I was looking for a player that could also handle SACD and DVD-Audio, as i have a large collection of both . Most of the players on the market that play those formats are high dollar items that cost big bucks. The player was affordable at the MSRP, but Best Buy had it for $100 off, which made it a steal. This thing Will play just about anything you throw at it/in it, every high res files, and they all sound great . Plus it handles all the latest video formats, as well as Atmos surround sound. It has the usual apps like Netflix, Pandora, etc. Picture quality is superb. If you need a player that will tackle just about any format and sound/look great will doing it ,the Sony - UBP-UX80 - Streaming 4K Ultra HD Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-Ray Player is a most versatile unit that will get the job done in excellent fashion

It takes a while for the software to do its thing making you think there’s an issue. Did the upgrade and still slowwwww. It works fine when it’s running but is slow to boot. Good streaming functions. Easy to use.

This is not your typical fly weight Blu-ray player, very sturdy construction, and excellent performance both with Blu-ray and DVD playback, as well as with the streaming apps. Very reasonable price given the obvious higher-end quality, Sony got this one right.

I purchased this player as my entry into the 4K DVD world. Reasonably priced and worked great right out of the box. I just purchased another one for my new home theater at the recommendation of the Magnolia guys. Very happy with this unit so far.
