Lots of great reviews for this unit but I got a bad one. Within the first week I was having problems with playback freezing up on two different 4K UHD discs. These were brand new discs that I had just purchased from BestBuy. I tried both discs in my XBOX ONE X and they played without any problems. I returned this player to BestBuy for a refund not willing to take a chance on another faulty player. I appreciate the helpful customer service person and the easy returns at BestBuy.

Nice when it works just like others have said after 30 minutes or so it will freeze up doesn't matter what kind of disk your playing. Total waste of money.

Sony products are all plug and play if you stick with Sony. Plugged this in, updated the software, and we were good to go!

When it comes to physical disc players and the price this day in time Sony is the best hands down.

Plays flawlessly and a nice price for the player. I can play different formats which is great.

First & foremost for this review, only get a 4K blu-ray player if you have a 4K TV. Duh. I say this cause I actually have a few friends who have one and haven't yet upgraded to a 4K TV. I ask them what's the point then and they just want the latest & greatest. But really, this is excellent but only if you have a 4K TV or are getting one at the same time. That said, here's Sony's base model for a 4K blu-ray player, and it's a pretty legit player. You're not going to be able to do Dolby surround sound with this, but it's also A, a base model and B, sufficient for what most people, myself included, will want in terms of a 4K blu-ray player. One nice little tweak, rather addition, Sony recently made for this specific model is to give a HDMI cord with it. And a respectable one too. It's 18 GBPS (which for 4K tech is what you should look for) and I think it's a 6 ft long cord (I'm guessing here, it doesn't say and I haven't measured it) and while probably not like, super premium, it'll be good enough for most people. And at least you get one included. Seriously, check around. Hardly any blu-ray players come with HDMI cords. They want us to have to buy those separate and help further other manufacturers who make them. So again, it's a definite nice. Lastly, while I can't say in terms of long-term quality it's certainly starting out well enough. If you've ever had a Sony video player before you know their top tier quality all-around and this lives up to that. If I had but one complaint (hey, nothing is perfect) I'd simply add a numerical keypad to the remote, it feels a little too basic without one, especially as this is a $250+ video player. Ultimate takeaway here is totally positive. I hope anyone encouraged by this review has just as good of experience too, if not, exchange it, give it another shot cause you aren't find a better one without paying a substantially higher price.

I had high hopes for this product, based on reviews i read on here. But i should have done more research. This particular model has issues with playback freezing while your watching a movie. And it does. Almost every time i watch a movie, it will freeze and the only way to get it to play again, is to completely restart the system. You get what you pay for i guess.....

Super buggy. Random lock ups and flakey behavior,. The only way to recover after lock up is to disconnect power. Not a very good review for a pricey item, but there it is.

This is a great option for steaming on a non smart tv. Nice play back also with dvd.

Audio goes out occasionally and needs to be reset. Requires pressing buttons on remote and on unit multiple times

This works fine for Blu-Ray, but we have had consistent problems with skipping on 4K. Often we have to eject the disk or restart the player mid-movie to get it playing correctly again, which really diminishes the viewing experience. This is the second one we have tried (exchanged the first one hoping the skipping was just a fluke) and we are still having the same problem. Given that we got this for sake of watching 4K movies it is a real disappointment, and we are returning it to try another brand.

Has a lot of trouble connecting to streaming services and freezes up sometimes when it actually does connect. First disc I played froze half way into movie. Top it off I missed out on a $60 price match because I found out too late it went on sale a week after I bought it.

Plays DVDs, Bluerays, and even streams app content. This is what we needed to play our old library.

Lasted just a few months before it started freezing up and then it would return to the main menu. It would do it when it got near the end of a disc. I have multiple Sony DVD players and so far the maximum time I have gotten out of one is a year and the average is just a couple months.
