Great 4K player with a few minor caveats. The picture quality is great and the menus are quite snappy and responsive. The dual HDMI setup is an interesting feature allowing you to use separate cables for audio and video. This could be useful depending on your setup and could result in a cleaner audio signal reaching your speakers. There is a fairly limited app selection but the big names are there and function well. I appreciate that they omitted a screen on the front of the device, it makes for a cleaner look and is less distracting when placed near the screan. My minor quibbles are that it only supports 2.4Ghz wireless and that is uses an external power supply. Neither is really an issue it's just a personal preference as I normally only run 5Ghz on my network and wall wart style plugs take up unnecessary room on powerstrips. All in all it's a solid player and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Unbelievable how much clarity I was missing with my old DVD player! I've noticed once I took everything out the box and hooked everything up, that my picture clarity was phenomenal, and the little blurry details I was used to was clearly a different picture! I'm pretty sure they're coming out with a better DVD player soon around 8K, but until then you can't go wrong with this one! I've done something I haven't done in a while, and that sit home and watch movies over that I've had prior because of how amazing the picture was! You can't go wrong with this DVD player as long as you have the right TV. Because you can't have a basic 4K TV, you have to have ultra HD television. Believe it or not, is definitely worth the price to a person who loves watching movies at a high definition!

The player is very easy to use. Haven't had any problems with freezing in the movies

The UHD or Blu-ray discs look great paired along the Sony BRAVIA TV I use. I’ve read many complaints from other purchasers that it doesn’t last long so hopefully I got a good unit. It hasn't been perfect, however, it skips plenty of times whenever I play Raging Bull 4K. It's an entry level UHD player so I believe other UHD players do an easier, better job. I just hope it lasts a long while. While you play a Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray, make sure to change the "Picture Quality Mode" to "Direct" that gets rid of DNR and leaves up all the awesome film grain, as intended by the director and cinematographer.

Yes, it's true, I do love that lizard! And I especially like him in 4k HD. Amazing picture. Just to see, I also played an old DVD to see how it looked. I swear I could see the pancake makeup on the actor's faces. Really amazing picture. And the thud, thud, thud as Godzilla goes through downtown was just like being there. Yes, I would definitely recommend the Sony 4K Ultra HD Blue-ray player. The player came with a cable which was great. I plugged in the player to the existing cable I had and it was smart enough to know I hadn't used the one it came with... pretty smart. It worked with either cable, but I do think the picture was a bit better using the cable it came with.

When it is all said and done, there is only one question that is important, and that is, "Does the Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player | UBP-X700 with High-Resolution Audio add significantly to the overall ability to become completely immersed in the television viewing experience?" The answer is a resounding, "YES!!" First, the setup. One of the easier setups I think I've ever completed. Hooking everything up was super easy and straightforward. Then the actual setup protocol, including setting up wifi was just as simple and easy. I had absolutely no issues. After setup, and powering on the unit, you come to a screen quite similar to most other streaming devices. There are a host of recommended apps, and a few come already installed. You have the option of searching and installing just about any app you want. Pretty much just a very simple, typical setup. But now for where the rubber meets the road. I am fortunate enough to have a very high-end ultra hd 4k tv with all the whistles and bells, revved up graphics engine, and so on. So I was excited about seeing what the Sony HD Blu-ray was capable of doing. I remember when HD televisions started coming out several years ago, and how that it made older movies and television shows look almost 3D. It took ordinary television watching, and boosted it up A LOT. Now the same can be said for what this Blu-ray player does for an already outstanding television...it takes it to the next level. As I watched several movies, and tried out the streaming features, I was impressed by the richness of the colors, and the absence of blurring and bleeding. Acceleration is not sacrificed, and the AUDIO RESOLUTION IS CRAZY!! Amazing! The Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player | UBP-X700 with High-Resolution Audio is truly the way to go and the choice to make when in the market for a new blu-ray player. The unit comes with a well-endowed remote. In fact, at first glance, its rather daunting. The remote has 30 buttons. But after a few minutes of playing around with it, I discovered they are well-placed, and easy to learn. One thing I really liked about the remote is that depending on what type of television you own, you can program the remote to control the on/off and volume on your TV. Turning subtitles on/off is as easy as pressing one button. I could bore you with all the technical specs of this Sony Blu-ray player, but you can read those somewhere on this webpage already, so there's no need to get into all of that. What I can say is that I am sold on this device. It is of course typically-outstanding Sony quality, and I would proudly and highly recommend it to everyone, even to those who already own a Blu-ray player, because I can guarantee whatever they have is nowhere close to the outstanding quality of this Sony unit!

The first one skipped badly. It took Sony over a month to get ma a replacement. The second one is great! Easy to setup and use with a fantastic picture.

Setup was fast and easy. The only hangup was a feature I’d never seen before: the separation of audio and video between two HDMI cables. It didn’t seem all that clear about to me, but it appeared that it allows you to view 4k video using an AV receiver that doesn’t support 4k video by also connecting the player to a 4k TV. The on-screen info & settings are typical Sony: superior as always. Discs load and start quickly. Apps are a nice touch (my last blu-ray player didn’t have any). Like discs, apps load and start quickly. It’s too bad you can’t download additional ones, and you can’t delete any that are on there. Who on earth selected those?

This is my first Blu Ray player. I wanted UHD-Res to match the resolution of the (non-Sony) TV. It auto-upsamples conventional blu-ray media to UHD. I believe it may be optimized for SONY Briavia TV's since I cannot change the screen geometry at the highest resolution. So most of the time I set it's resolution to standard HD (1024p). This setting is fine except for the one UHD disk that I have. It also can play audio SA-CD's, so I can eventually use it to replace my aging SACD player. I also have an old SONY DVD/VHS player from 2005 that still works !

Plays my Blu-ray Discs great! Easy to hook up; just a power cable and HDMI cable. The player communicates with my Sony TV remote with no issue (also works with the provided DVD player remote). Fast shipping, good value. No complaints!

Bought this after my Samsung Blu-Ray player began to have trouble loading discs. Seemed to have a fairly full feature set and has played my Blu-Ray discs without any problems. I don’t have any 4k discs. Picture has been good on my LG OLED TV, although sometimes the color looks a little too saturated. Can’t complain. As others have mentioned, the unit is fairly cheaply made notably with a flimsy loading tray. I’m not rough on my stuff, so that didn’t bother me. What bothered me a lot is that I wanted to be able to play CDs with it also, but nearly every disc I play is misread by the unit with frequent pauses and audio drops. For years Sony has been kind of a premium brand and this is the newest piece of electronics I have, so I was expecting my CDs to sound better than ever. Not so much. If I stop the disc and restart, it usually plays it through without further problems. Because of the problem playing CDs, I downgraded my rating to only 3 stars.

Great Ultra HD Player - well made and excellent picture. Very happy with my purchase and glad I have in the house. I'm looking forward to watching my favorite movies in the best quality.

I also have the Panasonic DP-820 which is almost twice the price. The picture quality is just as good. The Panasonic has a few better functions. I check the stats of the video better but if you’re not a lunatic like me I would buy the sony and save money

It is WORTH the $$$!! The picture quality is extremely sharp with outstanding color and contrast. The audio is easy to set up ( read manual). Im using in a home theater with atmos and SONY blows it away again.

This is a great blu-ray player. It integrated perfectly with our home theatre system and with the Apple play device. Great picture and sound (albeit that's also a function of the theatre system).

Compact. Worked with all the discs I tried that were not Blu-ray. Easy navigation. Was on sale.

Love this 4k player, haven't had an issue yet, but dont think i will, it seems well made

So far, it seems to do what it is claims and what I expected. It's easy to hook up, to use, and makes a good picture. The HDMI cable included was a big plus as I didn't have to go out and get one.

Its working good, no problems, I like it. I am considering buying a sound bar soon.
