We purchased this Blue Ray DVD player to replace one that we could no longer use and it’s a great replacement!

Has all the features. Picked it up to enjoy DV on my discs. Only issue is having to toggle DV on or off for non-DV discs.

Wish the HDMI cable was a bit longer but otherwise it is a good Blu-ray player. Deducted a star because the streaming function is limited.

For the past few years my primary DVD, Blu-Ray, and UHD Blu-Ray players have mostly been game consoles. Whether it was an Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, or PS5, these consoles have always been my primary physical media players, which makes the Sony UBP-X700 my first dedicated player in many years. Honestly, it has been totally worth it. For me, the biggest win here is Dolby Vision HDR disc playback, which is often locked behind more premium (and expensive) disc players. In this case, you need to strangely enable Dolby Vision playback from a separate systems menu (it is not on by default), but once enabled, your discs with Dolby Vision metadata will play perfectly, assuming you have the appropriate TV which can play Dolby Vision. In my experience with an OLED, Dolby Vision often results in a more contrast-heavy, brighter, and cleaner image compared to standard HDR10, and having a player than can finally leverage that metadata on all my 4K blu-rays is amazing. No, it isn’t as earth shattering as going from no HDR to HDR, but Dolby Vision is often the icing on the cake for taking advantage of your TV’s capabilities. Speaking of capabilities/interface, getting the player up-and-running takes minutes, with picking a language and connecting to your home network being some of the only steps you will need to take. The player supports almost all audio/video formats you could hope for, including 3D disc playback if you have a backlog of 3D blu-rays you still want to leverage. You also get two HDMI ports, one for audio/video and one for audio only, which can really come in handy when working with a receiver. In terms of build quality, the player is mostly made of plastic and is very light, almost to the point where you might worry about durability in the long run. This being said, after 5 days of use, I haven’t had any playback or crash issues: so far so good! In terms of actual disc playback (the primary use case for this player) the player excels! The picture is sharp and detailed with native 4K material, and the upscaling engine in the player does amazing work on standard blu-rays and other sub-UHD content. Colors really pop off the screen, and the sound quality from these media forms (be it Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, or other audio formats) sounds truly excellent. I haven’t used an ultra-high-end player before, but for a more budget focused player, this one looks and sounds amazing. It’s the best I have yet to use, and I can’t imagine a picture looking or sounding much better than they already do! In addition to an array of physical media that can be played through the device, you can also use native streaming apps (such as Youtube and Netflix) to stream content directly through the player. These apps generally work very well, and quality is good. This being said, one of the few areas where I think this player falls a bit short is with its streaming and overall interface/usability. It isn’t bad per say, but compared to using a dedicated streaming device, you will notice this player is a bit slow/less responsive, and the apps themselves feel a bit out of date compared to more recently updated apps from a dedicated streaming device/native smart TV interface. If streaming is your most common use case, it may be worth investing in a dedicated streaming device instead, but as an added bonus to the physical media performance, this player works just fine. My biggest complaint overall would be with the remote, which is pretty small and cramped, with no backlight, making it hard to read/see in the dark. Again, not a dealbreaker, but a nitpick for something that could be improved. Overall, I really love this player and all it offers. Its build quality/interface could be improved, and the remote could be a bit larger/easier to see, but these are small marks against what is otherwise a fantastic product. It nails the most important feature in terms of picture/audio performance, and provides plenty of future-proofed options like Dolby Vision for compatible TVs. I am really looking forward to watching many more movies on it for years to come, and if you are looking for a physical media device which offers an amazing bang for buck, look no further!

This blu ray works great on my new 86" screen. My only complaint is the software on the device seems to run a little slow.

Updated all old Blu-ray players in my home. The old ones lasted over ten years, so I bought the same brand again Sony. The new Sony is great! The 4K makes everything look great! Upgrade now while they are on sale you won't be sorry!

We needed to upgrade our old DVD player as so many videos require Blu-ray.
