Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the UBP-X700/M's picture quality, ease of use, and 4K playback capabilities. Many also appreciate its compact size and the inclusion of Dolby Vision. While some users experienced occasional performance issues and found the remote control less than ideal, the positive feedback on picture quality and ease of use outweighs these concerns. The player's ability to upscale older DVDs to a higher resolution is also frequently praised.

Good region free player. Just bought "Apocalypse Now" from the UK and the Blu-ray Region B Disc played just fine, 4k UHD is region free anyway. Only recommendation I have get a high quality HDMI 2.1 cable as I had some issues with the 2.0 cables which I believe has nothing to do with the player itself. One downside - the remote control is not backlit :(

Love it! Was so annoyed with my LG 4K Ultra player that I spent the money for this Sony. Glad I did. One great feature of home movie viewing is Pause. Sometimes it's for a bathroom break or popcorn popping or to check the game score. Generally during pause I switch source back to TV. This works fine with every player I have ever owned. Not the LG. It exits the movie and returns the the players main menu. Forcing you to reboot the disc and try to find where you left off. So I'm happy again. I can pause the movie, change source and take a break to check the score and return to the movie where I left off. And of course 4K Ultra picture looks great with my 4K TV. It's a Sony! Never had one that didn't work.

If you're an avid 4k disc viewer who want's the most our of their 4k movies, than you already know as of today 12/2023 there's really only 2 options for a 4k player disc player give you all the bells and whistles your 4k tv can provide you you're looking at 1 and the other is the Panasonic UB820. (there's a 3rd option but it's like a grand i believe) You also probably already read on google that people prefer the Panasonic because of not having to manually select dolby vision BUT i'm here to tell you after a good amount of time with this machine that it is literally the only difference (oh and it's easy to tell if your movie is dolby vision capable you can look on the back of the box and also there are reddit posts of people tracking what new and existing movies use dolby a simple google of "list of dolby vision discs" will get you the info you need. Please don't fall for people saying the Panasonic looks better, it does not and there really isn't any reason for any of these two players to look different in the first place, the visual quality is based on your TV and your settings not the actual player that have the same specs as these two do. Give it a shot like I did, try it out for a couple of weeks and you too will see that manually selecting dolby vision is nothing compared to the money you'll be saving. Oh another thing, people are saying that some movies skip and I had 2 out of 23 movies that skipped at some parts and there's a reason this is happening not just this player but the others as well: We have not gotten a new 4k player since 2019 by any company and since then, new distributors like Arrow video are starting to use "dual layer" manufacturing of disks and in 2019 that wasn't a thing, in other words we need a company to make a brand new 4k player to address the random skipping people talking about (if of course they are cleaning their discs correctly). Unfortunately distributors are changing and evolving ways of making disks but Sony, Panasonic LG are not manufacturing new players with new parts to address the issue. But with all that said I have been enjoying my time with it and movies look spectacular!

Sony X700 is exactly what we needed to watch movies. It is compact, easy to operate, and movies are sharp. We had an older blue ray player from Sony, and the difference with Sony X700 is very evident. Even old television shows are much sharper.

Bought an open box x700, but it works great. Blu ray and dvd movies play great on this unit. Faster than my old player. No issues. Love it. Do not need the apps, they just muddy up the startup screen. My only gripe.

Excellent picture quality and easy setup. Up-scales DVD content nicely. Streaming works well, but the there is no way to add or update Streaming Apps over and above what is included with the unit. If you need the most recent version of Steaming Apps, like Hulu, you'll need to look elsewhere.

Bought this after reviewing online the good reviews. This player will play different region dvds and pal works fine. When combined with the LG TV i bought in Best buy the videos come out very clear and high resolution - totally worth the price. Also the service there is excellant - they are always willing to assist shoppers.

The big question, this, the 800x or the Panasonics? This model is the best value. The Sony 800x plays discs exactly the same, how they will look and sound will be exactly the same. Some people have freezing problems, I have had zero, and have played the most difficult 100 GB 4k movies. Dolby Vision makes a huge difference on DV discs. Also standard Blu-Rays are Upscaled and look great. How do I know? Because I have tested the exact same discs on my PS5 and the 4K player is way better. The Panasonic ub820 is $400 on sale, but I can get this player, a service warranty, some movies, and a vacume cleaner for that price. And yes service warranty is worth it in case you get a freezing one. Also get an OLED to maximize what this player can do and also an audio system. Run the HDMI directly to the TV, and a second HDMI to your sound bar or receiver for sound.

Works better than expected! Even with a somewhat weak WiFi signal this unit grabs the signal and makes it right. So far no buffering. Comes with most major streaming apps already to go out of the box. DVD's work great, the upscaling works perfectly. So to date no negatives experienced!

I purchased this thinking it would be a major upgrade in video resolution, nothing worth shouting about. Audio improvement is noticeable but unless you have top notch equipment I'd not waste my money and go with standard Blu-ray. I've also had to reboot the machine mid movie because of freezing issues. Best buy doesn't sell videos anymore. Hard to find anything good anywhere

      Hello Franko,

Thank you for your detailed and candid review of the UBP-X700/M Blu-ray Player.

We're sorry to hear that the video resolution upgrade hasn't been as significant as you hoped, and that you've encountered freezing issues requiring reboots during movies. This is definitely not the experience we intend for our customers, and we'd like to investigate the freezing problem further to see if we can assist.

While the UBP-X700/M is designed to deliver superior audio and video quality, the impact of 4K resolution can sometimes vary depending on your specific TV and audio setup, and the content itself. However, freezing issues are unusual, and we would like to help troubleshoot this with you.

Please consider reaching out to our Sony Support team at your earliest convenience. We can walk you through some troubleshooting steps for the freezing, and discuss settings that might optimize your video and audio experience to help you get the most out of your player.

We understand your comments about the availability of physical media; while that's outside of our direct control, we appreciate you sharing your overall purchasing experience.

We look forward to the opportunity to help improve your experience with your UBP-X700/M.

      Thanks for choosing Sony!

Most online reviews claim this is the best budget 4k bluray player, and it has lived up to those claims in the few weeks I've had it. Some reviewers have also said it's noisy, but mine has been whisper quiet thus far. I also prefer its more compact size vs. the pricier X800, so the extra cost savings is icing on the cake. As for its inferior build quality vs. that model, it doesn't really matter when it basically just sits under the TV most of its life without being touched as most will just interact with its remote.

Well, this does stream through the slow WIFI connection, but playing my local videos it skips a lot through the WIFI connection. I did run a direct LAN cable to it, not happy that it only has a 100 Mbs connector too. But it does what I wanted through the LAN cable connection. It plays DVDs and Bluray disks. I wanted it mostly for the streaming from my local network. So I can't say the processor is making a difference with the new TV I have it connected to. I also wanted it for HDMI and ARC connectibility and it is responding to the Vizio TV remote I got with the TV, but there are a lot of the buttons that dont match up, so I have to use the Sony remote when watching anything from it. Was hoping for one remote to run them all, but as little as I will use this device with the TV since streaming through the TV is better than this device offers. Will just use it as a DVD player anyway.

I purchased this as an early Christmas present for my Grammy. The setup and configuration for use was relatively easy. Given its price, it was nice that it came with an HDMI. Albeit short. So such only works on close range. The instructional book should come with a simplified version for ease. It plays beautifully.
