After settling between this player and the Panasonic ub820 I settled for this for two reasons. The Sony was $150 cheaper and did all the reviews highly rate this player. I didn't want to much ability to play with the HDR like the Panasonic offers. Sony does a good job with that and sometimes less is more for me. But the one negative is that Dolby vision needs to be turned on or off based on the disc. It's annoying and it should auto detect it. Other then that I highly recommend it. Nearly silent operation and the picture and sound is excellent. It plays nice with my Bravia TV for best picture settings automatically. With the exception of Dolby vision. 5 star product IF it was able to auto detect Dolby vision

Afrter looking at many reviews I chose this player pver the less expensive Sony and the similarly priced Panasonic. The reviews of all players showed some issued with freeze ups during playback but the percentage seemed lower with this player. The player seems to have good build quality. I have played a few disks both 4K and standard Blu Ray. I saw great picture quality and have experienced no freeze ups. Hopefully problems won't develop later. Based on the number of reviews that complained about freeze ups, I did purchase a Geek Squad 4 year plan

This is the best dvd player I’ve ever used. Period. As a Blu-ray player that’s even better. The controls are quick and the machine loads and plays even quicker. Pausing and restarting is a breeze. And has not yet failed to return to the point left from yet. -it plays Dolby Atmos and Dolby vision disks. This is a definite buy. -

So far this is a good player and it has been reliable. Not all Sony products have been reliable in the past. The picture quality is good and meets expectations. The operation is run through the TV, so you cannot operate it independently from the TV. One downside is that you have to manually select between Dolby or DTS. This should be automatic and one of the reasons I did not give it 5 stars. A second downside is there is no analog audio output. This is supposed to function like a CD player, but you cannot hook it up to a stereo. Everything has to go through the TV. Another strike. Yet another issue is frame rate. Movie DVDs are at 24fps and most modern TVs have frame rate compatibility issues. This is an industry problem that needs to be solved. But it is more of a problem with the TVs than it is the player.

I purchased this Sony - UBP-X800M2 - Streaming 4K Ultra HD Hi-Res Audio Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-Ray Player to replace an old Sony DVD player. It is definitely a high-end unit, that in my opinion is a quick plug n play device. Setting up the unit is fast and easy. This is not a compact unit, it is long but sleek looking.

This is an excellent example of what a 4K BluRay player should be. Sony is 1/2 of my bedroom theater: a Sony 50" 4K TV and this 4K Player. Easy to set up, easy to use. I purchased the extended warranty for peace of mind. I am extremely pleased with Sony's 4K Player!

Overall a good 4K HD blu ray player. It also comes with streaming from a few apps like Netflix. Trying to add You tube TV but may not be able to. Need more time and effort to make a final call on making this a 5 star rating

I had the previous model, which is almost exactly same - except dolby vision. I preferred to have dv than not, since my tv supports it. On some discs, it makes stronger enhancement than hdr. DV or not, for 4k, this is great. For blu-ray playback - it is perfect, if not better looking than a blu-ray player.

I acquired this unit to replace a different brand 4K player that was well over 3 years old. The Sony is doing the trick playing 4Ks, Blu-rays and DVDs where my previous unit was struggling. 4Ks along with the HDR capability look phenomenal on my LG OLED! It's easy to set up with variety of nice settings and easy menus.

This is a great 4k player that won't break the bank like others will. Sure it's lacking a few things, but it makes up for it with having LDAC bluetooth built in plus all of the playback compatibilities. It's a great machine that compliments my mid range audiophile setup.

It is a good player and is my second one. The first player I bought in 10/2020 started freezing up. My theory is because of the heat. Ventilation is very poor on these units and recommend that you put larger feet on the bottom to elevate it for better ventilation. Also, recommended that you do not use the rapid power-up setting to keep the unit off when not in use.

As a guy who has an Xbox and PS5 I already had 4K players. They work well enough in their own right, and they offer amazing value, but my biggest issue was lack of Dolby vision support. I never got the full potential of my blu rays on those devices. As a videophile I had to get a standalone player. It’s QUIET, the picture is fantastic and also the use of an old school remote makes utilization a breeze. If you’re not too crazy about physical media or you’re just fine with the value that the consoles give then don’t worry about it, but if you want the best picture quality and care about DV without streaming this is a good investment.

The Sony - UBP-X800M2 at $299.99, is by far the best 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player that I have ever owned! The day before, I purchased a Panasonic DP-UB820 at $499.99, which was the worst 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player that I have ever owned and I returned it within 24 hours. I am not going into the details on why it was the worst because I rated it and you can read that. The Sony - UBP-X800M2 has a true 3840x2160 Resolution, with a crystal-clear picture, supporting 4K HDR and DOLBY VISION, plus great sound with DTS:X and Dolby Atoms. Some people were listing the lack of streaming apps. Its purpose is to play 4K and below DVDs. My TV has all of the apps that I want and my Roku Ultra Streaming player has all of the apps that I want. So, I don’t need a third streaming video device. Some folks were also complaining about it weighing, 8.4 pounds. This is a strong quality devise, that does not flex when you touch it. The extra strength makes it more durable. I don’t why anyone would complain about that. Once again, a GRAET 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player! I would recommend this to anyone that wants a great 4K video picture.
