You have to manually activate Dolby vision and it's not very easy to use. If you have an external hard drive it probably won't play your media. When you turn it on it may not work and you'll have to unplug the power and plug it back in.

To enjoy Dolby Vision, set [Dolby Vision Output] under [Screen Settings] on the player. You can check this link for more details. (Refer to page 36-37):

he UBP-X800M2 supports external hard drives up to 4TB (GPT) and USB flash drives up to 128GB. The supported file systems are FAT32, NTFS, and exFAT. If your external hard drive is not recognized, ensure it meets these specifications and is formatted correctly. More details can be found here:

If the player does not turn on and requires unplugging and plugging back in, it might be a firmware issue. Ensure your player has the latest firmware update. You can enable Automatic Software Update on your device to get the latest version.

Often times it'll shut down without warning, and won't work for a couple minutes, not even the disc tray will open. It's slow and unresponsive at times, and the entertainment options are subpar. However, using it for discs has been a breeze.

Garbage software. Constantly froze and had to be unplugged. No software updates after a year. Sooooo.... Being foolish I bought the ubp800xM2 being stupid enough to think that Sony would fix Anything. The newer model went from 15 streaming apps to 3. Such garbage. Dolby Vision must be manually turned on or off every time in the main settings menu. Works great so far but my previous model took about 6 months before it bricked. I actually threw it in my pool. If this on starts I'll maybe use it as a boat anchor. Sony has turned to garbage.
